A true mark of a great band i think is they can maintain this signature feel and sound that sparked in the beginning all the way through their growth and yet come up with different and unique versions of it with every album.
I love this song. I love the signature voice of BC. And I love the relationship the band has when they play together. Drums, lead, rhythm.

New production style 👍 I like when his voice is pushed back into the mix in songs and not exposed out in front
I would Love to hear all the new songs with his voice mixed that way... I really think it would serve the songs for the best. Let's be clear, I love Billy/William/Guillaume's voice but it has been placed way too loud in the mix and sometimes it smashes all the creativity from the others instruments from the songs... (My point of view, people can disagree. :))

@@dynamo4543 I'm fairly convinced it's Billy himself who wants it that way most of the time. Rubin didn't produce Zeitgeist and that's where it started.

Let's see how these songs do over time. My guess is they're forgotten very soon. No matter how much Corgan dislikes it, the 90's will always be the standard that many will hold him to. Not because of the guitars (a common bad argument), but because the song structures and the melodies themselves were much better and deeper.
@@martinsen2498 Billy himself in one interview said that he realises he does not make "genius" music anymore. Also i ve noticed that his voice sounds horrible in this recording and recent ones too. Have you noticed the same? I mean, he has never had Celin dion type of voice, bjt his voice perfectly matches the band. Here is sounds too nasal, too loud, like all accent is on his voice. Hope you understand me cause i am not a native speaker
@@Simonknowsall I understand and I agree 100%. The mixing does not fit his voice at all. Some of the songs could have been great, but he makes wrong musical decisions.
@@Simonknowsall ok hear me out. This uses elements of modern production and the quality of sound. But what matters is the depth of lyrics and interesting chord progressions to me. Being a musician the medium of sound is irrelevant - better to be current to appeal to the modern audience. It’s what the song would be if stripped to an acoustic guitar and singing the lyrics that judge the song, not the medium that is used to bring it across.
Seen Billy in Dublin, Ireland, summer 2019 and it was an absolutely amazing gig. Pumpkins fan forever!

The soundscaping of this one is goddamn majestic. From the synth-bass that's so gnarly it goddamn grunts. Which i think might actually switch to a normal bass by the second verse. to the pristine piano, and the odd wind-up sound effect, and the ambient synths.
Such a strange mix of elements, but works so well. Quite impressive.

When he was writing long prog songs in the late 2000s everyone hated it too. Just enjoy the unique, creative songwriting instead of placing your outdated expectations over the top of everything. The production is incredible and intricately layered too, if you think it sounds like a demo you’re missing all of it. The JC Complex has a new album if all you want to hear are drum fills.
I just got a feeling of The Smashing Pumpkins, they are unique, they never look like anything else or sound like anything else in this world, just them. I can't understand why people is always trying to compare something great to anything else. It sounds pretty cool and you think that must have something else before quite similar. It's not. Just the best, smartest and sexiest band in the whole world, the Pumpkins. ;) (I'm not trying to be rude here or unpolite)

@@nebulous8389 basically critical of a lot of the newer stuff. There are songs I like and I think Oceania was a good record but a lot of the Teargarden stuff and that album he did with Tommy Lee were pretty underwhelming.

Great solid album! Billy has out there nearly 600 songs covering every aspect of music!! This album sounds fresh, unique and inspired! I am a Greek fan since Gish and in my middle 40's i enjoy this music!! PS the basslines on this album are killers!!

Funny that you mentioned Spaniards, as there's a couple of songs off of Cyr, Ramona and Starrcraft, that are songs from the Day for Night project. I definitely get a TFE/Monuments vibe from this, but with the addition of James, Jimmy, Katie, and Sierra. Having Howard "the Bear" Willing producing doesn't hurt either.
