    I honestly don't mind that this show is silly and they don't always take it 100% seriously. I wish, however, that they would brand it that way. Lee's epic narration mixed with futuristic vibes from the animations and music make me feel like these games are about to go head to head in a heated debate, instead its just Jirard trying to be serious and a couple of goobs who haven't played the games, or have a bias against a whole genre. Also Caddy.

      i agree, in early seasons i was a bit annoyed that i could tell it wasnt thought through with any criteria for debate, but now that i realized that wasn't the goal i enjoy the craziness. but i may also be less invested in this bracket since i haven't played these games

      @@kyrudo Although I don't agree with Barry being in this season in particular, I would say Caddy has some expertise on the console being discussed and what were the best games while offering interesting view points (were they the best points compared to the first season? No, ProJared would have provided a better explanation of his view points). Barry was more out of his element I believe as his expertise is in animations and art, so the only viewpoints that he could utilize in these conversation pieces is simply based off experience rather than the games at hand whenever he hasn't played the game.
      I will give Caddy a better point in terms which is worse within the series because at least he does bring up good comparisons and viewpoints upon his beliefs. He also brought it back to modern gaming and compared it to the games at hand so the generation that didn't play the PS1 could make a general (and I mean GENERAL) comparison.
      I just like the conversations though and I love Barry...but he wasn't the best choice for this.

      I love Barry and he is a great artist but he needs to google top 5 jRPGs of all time and pick one and play it on his channel from start to finish. I think he'd have a lot of fun doing that with an audience helping him along and a decent game. Like ProJared and others are playing Zelda Randomizer games for great lengths of time, I don't see the downside to do this.

    • @Dallasthe1st
      @Dallasthe1st 5 лет назад +4

      I mean the reason he's doing so many photoshop streams is to finish a video he's been working on for like 4-5 months that he has to finish before the end of January. So it's like asking him to drop 5 months of work just because.

    • @DiabloCloud
      @DiabloCloud 5 лет назад

      @Groisu Well, usually the popular vote is uncultured and awful, with things like CoD or Fifa being top sellers for decades, but, in this case, i get your obscure games and i can even agree they're great and we would love some more recognition, but in most of the cases in this bracket, it is the best of the best. When some troll game won the popular vote like parappa the rapper it was an absolute free pass. A lot of people said they wanted to see Legend of Dragoon, and yeah, it was a great and loved JRPG, but FFVII and FFIX were way better, so...even with a good reason of wanting hidden gems, the true and deserved gems needs to be here, if not, a lot more people would cry.

    • @EmilyRose900
      @EmilyRose900 5 лет назад

      I still think Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics were snubbed for some shitty mainstream games like parrapa. The PS1 was a JRPG machine and it needs representation as such. These shitty wannabe Mario 64 games suck and should'nt be a representation of the console.

    When you shoot an interview, I think it's a good practice to ask a few warm up questions like, "What's your name?" & "What did you have for breakfast?" to get the interviewee talking and comfortable. I feel like this episode was the first real question after a series of filler questions, which made it the first watchable one in the series. Is it too late to start the judging over again?

      I don't want to see Barry go, I just want to see him do better. I want them to get their brackets planned out much further from the time of filming so each person can have a solid few hours with each game. The same thing kinda happened with the cartoon one, they got the brackets and then the people who weren't overly familiar watched a handful of shows.
      In this season Barry and Caddi (I think they're both great) hadn't touched Final Fantasy 9 and judged it against a game they both had played but was extremely flawed and a B while FF9 is at the very least an A- game.

    I agree with most that was said here. To me length doesn't matter that much but what matters is how that time is spend and what do I take from it. I've played games that lasted a couple of hours that satisfied me and left a mark on me way bigger than games that have lasted me +60 hours, just because of how tight they were in what they were trying to do. But then I really apreciate when a game "absorbs you" for hours upon hours jut because it's fun to play. And when that happens it's way more satisfying, but IMO that happens way less often.
    Most open world games (at least in my experience, I haven't played all) end up feeling like doing chores. I love Skyrim, for example, but after a while it feels like you're just doing the same things over and over again. You encounter every 10 hours or so a quest that at least storywise feels refreshing and is cool and interesting, but at the end of the day almost every single mission in Skyrim is "go here, kill a bunch of people, get thing, go back/go somewhere else and repeat". And the fact that it recycles most of the assets in every dungeon doesn't help. I've played that game for hundreds of hours (thanks to the mod community mostly) and I love it, but if I had to pick between starting Skyrim again or playing... I don't know, Portal 1 and 2 again I would choose the latter without question.

    Weirdly enough, this time's convo about game length vs content got me thinking about why I don't really play multiplayer games.
    I also grew up poor, my parents and brother never got any consoles and I was discouraged from doing do so when I earned cash (though I did eventually get a DS when it first came out) so I valued games with lots of content and games I considered worth replaying a lot.
    Now that I do have the money, I'm still stingy about prices and also don't have much time to dedicate to a long game unless it's short enough, replayable and/or, most importantly, fun from the start (155 hours in BotW atm).
    So the problem with games like Overwatch and MMOs is that it takes more than a couple hours to get good enough to actully enjoy the experience, you have to pay for the thing before you know if you're even going to enjoy it and you gotta play consistently to maintain you skills, all of which is asking too much for me :

      Crash 2 won't make me feel like I'm going to hurl when I finish it though, and I'm not going to immediately regret playing it. Crash 2 is more like Burger king, it get's the job done, inoffensive and worth it's price.
      Sotn is like Pizza, there's a lot of it, so much that you need to come back to it later to finish it. You can approach it in many different ways and choose what you want on it, but some ways are better than others. and it's layered with a lot of variety, but you get to the upside down castle and it's still great but not quite as great as the rest, not much choice or variety there, some people just discard that part and consider it done, but if you take the time to finish it, it's worth it.

    I know this wasn't a huge point in the video, but I don't necessarily like how the fact that a game being remade somehow makes it bad or worse than its competitor. I can't speak for others, but the reason I want to see my favorite games remade is not because they're bad, but because I want to see what it'd look like with modern graphics, modern game design, to see what the devs would imagine the world like today. Maybe if there were sequels to that game, see how those sequels mold the potential changes in the remake's story. See what the big changes in the industry do to my favorites of yesteryear.

    On the topic of game length, it depends entirely on the kind of content not so much the amount of content. Green Man Gaming tried to put a price per hour value on the games it sells and I think in some cases that is a fair way to value a game and in others I think it is a terrible way to value a game.
    One bad example. Agarest Generations of War. I put 33 hours into it and got past ONE chapter out of I believe FIVE chapters. It is literally a big map with quite a few dozen dots and each dot is an unavoidable battle that plays out like the last 30 dots did.
    A good example is Final Fantasy 7, as a kid with very limited knowledge and no Gamefaqs I spent 99 hours getting Knights of the Round, leveling Pheonix materia and cast on death and getting ultimate weapons for each character and beating all the major side bosses. It was a blast and I felt I got every penny of value out of that game.
    On the other hand I have been playing jRPGs and video games since the NES as I was born in the early 80s. When I was a kid it took me forever to beat Zelda, I didn't have Nintendo Power and I had no idea where some of the secrets were, I did eventually find the magic sword, I did eventually find all the burnable bushes and bombable walls but it was months of playing. I never did beat Castlevania 2 and or Ninja Turtles and a bunch of other games that you either needed 10,000 hours of practice on or a guide.
    A couple months ago I beat Zelda in an hour, I wasn't exactly trying for speed but I did have a guide for the last dungeon.
    Since I come from the NES era, where games were 3x maybe 4x the cost they are now due to inflation, I do understand not wanting to spend so much on a game (like Contra) and beat it in 25 minutes but on the flip side I would load up Contra all the time with a friend as a kid and we'd have a damn good time beating it even if it was short (and we had the Konami code).
    Symphony of the Night is the better experience. They are both good content but SotN is just a lot more bang for your buck and none of that is because of dreadful filler.

    jirard tells such a story in one look. perfect blend of pain and anger

  • @maciekx10
    @maciekx10 5 лет назад

    When it comes the the video game length thing Jirard talked about at the start I would say that it's a matter of my satisfaction with the game. A shot but satisfying game will always be better then a long but mediocre one but never better than a satisfying long game (since it will simply give me more joy). On the flip side a game that is long but mediocre or just bad will always be worse then a short but bad game. Why? Because it's less time wasted and thus less anger over that on my part.
    The only thing that can change this way of looking at a game for me is replayability but that is a mixed bag in itself. If it's a game where I can take a whole new route/make new choices with new consequences/specialize in something else then a short one can be better. However if it's something like "now if you play trough again you will notice all those things you did not catch before" then I don't give a hoot unless the game is so freaking good I will play it again just to play it again and will see that shit along the way.

    The winner of the losers' bracket should be involved in the championship to make it a 3-way contest. It gives games like Symphony of the Night and FFIX a chance at redemption after being disrespected so blatantly.

    Give SotN a chance to come back into the winner's bracket. No need to replace something else, just put it in the mix and have an argument over 4 games instead of 3 (or 3 instead of 2). I don't care about the rules in this specific case just like no one involved cared about the matchup in this episode. We watch for the conversation and choices, not for horrible matchups that set everyone off (because of unfairness/mediation not giving one side enough time) and then go on to eventually waste a later episode by way of an obvious landslide. The structure of the matchups need to change, or the winning 'loser' needs a chance at redemption.

    I've enjoyed Madness and don't have as much hate for this season as many - I love Jirard and Shane, and Barry makes great points when he's actually played the game and is amusing. Gotta say though, Caddi has been very irritating. Not because of his opinions but he just CUTS EVERYONE OFF, ALL THE TIME. Jirard in particular.
    It's definitely from his passion and his enthusiasm to express his point, which is great, but in a debate like this, everyone needs room to express their views. I think that's why Jirard is visibly frustrated.

    This show isn't live, so is it possible to record for longer than the allotted episode time if one game isn't mentioned by the end? I think it's worth it to give each side a fair chance and then in editing, you could trim some of the over-covered footage to hit your time slot. I think this would save 90% of the viewers and Jirard himself a lot of grief.

    • @ForrestFurst
