- Pang Gek Teng, more affectionately known as Gek, is the founder and CEO of Surrey Hills Grocer. I first knew about her when a Chef friends of mine told me that she's been putting her money where he mouth is, investing into young culinary talent which stood out to me in a F&B industry that has nominal margins and so I wanted to find out more... and boy did I find out more. This is story of the woman behind Surrey Hills Grocer.

I've been running a humble bakery for four years, and at 29, I'm on the verge of giving up and considering using my degree to find a corporate job next year. ❤️❤️❤️ this sharing wholeheartedly, I cried while listening... I had a similar career and business experience in my 20s and was left with only SGD 5 at 31. But our Heavenly Father God sent His angels (strangers) to help me. I am now 50 and I must say that this verse is so real -- "Those who trust in the Lord will never be put to shame." (1 Peter 2:6) His miraculous blessings are indeed pure grace! Hallelujah 🙏🏻

I had lunch at Surrey Hills HV just today. Being a far eastie, I knew about Jurong but only started (& elated) going to ION. Although I do not know Gek, this story is truly amazing and encouraging. God is indeed good.
I wasn't able to finish the entire video...but just wondering if Gek was a Christian all along, or was she born-again at a later age?
I worked at TANGS, and remember you and your watches. So amazing to see how God has purposed you to be the salt and light to those around you. Gifting you a spirit of courage, never giving up. ❤️
If there’s one thing I take away from this episode, it’s the failures and stubbornness to not give up is what brought about Gek’s success. One of the most l inspiring videos! Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you sharing your story! I understand Gek's story as I had similar experience during my entrepreneur journey in my early 30s and was left with only $200 in my bank account and increasing family liabilities. Fortunately, I managed to see the light at the end of the tunnel and arrived at a better destination.
As much as people love to celebrate success, it is even more important to embrace and share our past failures.

It is indeed a blessing to be able to bless. From a post posted on a FB page last year during Xmas season from a lady who needed recommendation for an affordable caterer so she could at least feed her family with the limited funds she had, during the festive season. N I saw Gek replied to extend her help to feed the family at no cost, to share the joy of Xmas. A short & sweet reply. No question asked & asked nothing in return. Gek’s journey with God & how He turned things around making adversities into positivities which Gek can share & encourage others with such a wonderful testimony. N create a ripple effect to bless others with what God is blessing her with. Can’t help but tear thinking how lovely our Heavenly Father is that He is there in our darkest moments & gone ahead of us to set our crooked path straight ❤️

Surrey Hills as an Aussie concept is reminiscent of the Surry Hills neighbourhood wine and dine vibes in Sydney. Surrey Hills is actually an area in UK. Love the ambience in Surrey Hills Grocer but no so much the food in the cafe.

I just wanted to say. It was a very daring move to open the outlet in arena. I was working around the area and thinking "will it works" when it opened.
But when I tasted the food. I can only say it was really good and the result was just from pure hard work.
I can only say the starting was slow not because of the PR or brand. It was just purely at that time a lot of us were still working from home and it takes us a while before stepping in to try.
Well done and well deserved.
My husband watched your podcast with me for the first time. He kept interrupting while I was trying not to miss any details, to share how much he resonates with her sharing. 😂
