@@ciaraskeleton bravo, couldn’t have said it better! I am a professional illustrator and designer myself and see only potential for progress when it comes to using AI as tool/for inspiration/creation. Once there are protocols and better systems in place to prevent unintentional plagiarism and copyright issues from occurring, when there are firmer set boundaries and classifications between *pure* generative art and curated AI collaborations between software and humans, life will be heading in a more prosperous direction tbh. Also viewing grimes through the Elon lens is what causes most of the absurd opinions and judgements about her. like she is supposed to be a political figure, a spokesperson whilst in reality she will always remain her own person: a creative with a crazy flood of ideas and unconventional, ever shifting views. you may not agree with everything she says but evidently one in her position must be politically pristine all the time (c’mon none of us are) you can’t be perfectly informed on everything in the world. she’s said many times she’s made mistakes, said the wrong thing that was later taken out of context. That obviously solidifies the fact that she is *super* self aware. if people took literally everything that came out of my own mouth,… wow that would be pretty wild.
@@volpe_lightsong We're definitely like minded then! And you likely have way more experience in using AI for art purposes or design purposes than me but it excites me thinking of the same possibilities. Exactly, never once in my life have I been caught of guard by AI art thinking 'wow is this a lost original van Gogh?' And people think AI is just one set thing. They think it's a little megamind robot here to take the world over, when it's literally a human creation. People use it in little ways every single day, our phones recognise our faces, they predict our speech patterns, so many editing programs contain some form of ai, same for electronic music, we literally wanted this! And now it's here and real, and people are so misinformed, they're panicking at a ridiculous scale. Grimes said in this interview that we already live with ai in our house, in our pocket. We rely on technology for... everything now. Everything is rooted in technology and its really dumb to freak out now. I genuinely think people view 'ai' as android robots w human bodies and fully sentient human brains 😭 See I relate to Grimes BC I'm Autistic and I consistently just say things that make sense to me and am then called rude for it. I feel like Grimes is that kind of person, she's focused on what's in front of her and just says it without a filter, honestly and people get angry BC she won't bend to the social pressure. I think if she were a man, that people would likely think He was the coolest most ingenuitive man in tech/music, but she's a woman and a mom so she's not allowed any of those graces. Women are not allowed to publically be themselves unless themselves follows the white commercial feminism stream that's demanded of them. Grimes doesn't follow that stream, never has, she's always been open about not relating to being a woman sometimes (same!) And the struggles that come w being a woman in a world made for men, but people just ignore that and criticise her for not fitting into their box. I've been thinking about it a lot recently, if Grimes were a dude 10000000% she would be praised. 🤣
Prince definitely wouldn't be down to have his voice be used with Ai especially after death. He hated streaming services, especially youtube, because how it exploits artists. It's only recently that his music has been allowed on youtube due to his estate allowing it.
As she said, “the music industry has been very defined by lawyers”. It’s a different world now, and the battle he was in at that time was different. I personally think he would at least be open to the idea.
@@evedotcom it’s an innocent oversight on your part, Eve and you’ll need to read on Prince’s history. He was very keen towards protecting his intellectual property and he exercised that intelligence in a successful way, legally speaking. He was also a man who ran the entire business and hired his musicians. The difference from yesterday and today, is that Prince used live performers and it was not done digitally, so from that standpoint alone, it would seem that he would definitely go against such an idea, for stealing the “soul” out of the very music he set to create for the world. Please, read more about Prince, so it can be helpful to apply the information to someone more suitable for the topic.
how is it refreshing to say imagine if russia and ukraine fought in fortnite? Hundreds of people die or become disabled every day and this western idiot is talking about it like it’s a joke.
i enjoy the fact that she is so open, and she is because of how much understanding she has on everything, shes not narrow minded. shes really smart/complex not one sided.
She was in shock but she handled really well being disagreed upon, didn't lose track and kept respectful She is a wholemodel for interviwers nowadays !
I know , so disappointing. Everything she listed as positives are also not singularly created by the patriarchy , they heavily are simply because women aren’t often apart of those spaces or institutions but like create our own & forget about all male dominated spaces like what our justice system ? Our legal system ? Our political system , you can’t simply overlook & recreate spaces like that , we have to be integrated in order to make positive changes , I feel she’s out of touch because she has the monetary power to never worry about the struggles & effects of patriarchy on every day women
@@sophielouise7300 the patriarchy isn’t “men” it’s people in power who take advantage of those they have power over. Often times yes this is men but to limit it to “men” is to completely miss the point. She isn’t saying ignore the negative outcomes of the patriarchy, she is saying to appreciate the positive ones and to create solutions rather than destroy the negatives. Right now we live in a time where people are so much more focused on “what is wrong” rather than focusing on how to make wrongs right. The patriarchy is a problem but it’s never going to go away no matter who is in charge, what system is in place, what policies we have to protect those without power. We could live in a society of only women and there would still be a patriarchy which holds power. Grimes’ entire point is to work around the patriarchy while appreciating how it has benefited us. That is not to ignore the negatives or pretend like they don’t exist. The patriarchy doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Why can’t we transform the patriarchy to something which benefits people and works in everyone’s favor? Obviously this isn’t an easy or intuitive idea but it’s a place where we can actively move towards if we stop morphing everything into some scandalous negative which makes us angry like you have done with her statement…
Fr its so disappointing, also for her too since shes usually pretty well read for her to start saying stuff like i like uber for why she likes patriarchy....girl...that can happen without patriarchy, thats not patriarchy's doing! She's become just a mumbo jumbo of half baked ideas and concepts that she just knows surface level of to seem edgy and "cool" i miss grimes pre 2021.
I picture Grimes in a club on Mars when I listen to her music. Her shift to many styles and looks makes her a chameleon. Her mind and knowledge are expansive,so open. She is so interesting to listen to. At 60, I dance to Welcome To The Opera very loud to release stress. Thank you.🌷
The comments are so interesting, she didn’t say steal all consent from artists or keep the oppressive patriarchy lmaoo she’s literally just offering a new perspective on both that require adapting to change head on and creating space for something new, rather than resisting out of spite
I love Grimes, one of the most creative minds out there who dare to present original thoughts and be herself without filtering it 20 times and putting on a facade - something highly rare these days.
*_"I recently realized that I sorta hate nature...."_* lol! If I asked Chat-GPT to write _the_ most Grimes sounding sentence ever....it could have written that. I love how she'll just be honest about whatever passion is currently gripping her, and not pretend to walk on eggshells in order to not say the wrong thing. ALSO...I think people often just flat out miss her sense of _humor_ and assume she's always being very serious and literal.
Would that be Grimes' Pro Natzi, anti semitic humor that you are talking about people missing? ( or not understanding) . Grimes has made her new beliefs pretty clear. It's not that we aren't "getting" her humor; we are just fed up and disgusted by it because she should know better. For all the pseudo-babble she espouses, Grimes really isn't saying anything profound, intelligent or deep. Yet her die hard fanbase eat up every regurgitated cliche that she parrots from Elon or her new tech elitist Alt- right friends. It's disappointing and has gotten old.

@@friv_0881 What has she done that I'm not aware of? I genuinely would like to know. By the way you speak of her, you'd believe she's Lilith, come to eat babies and castrate men. I _absolutely_ enjoy her music, so... what is it about her remarks that wronged you? Like, I'm seriously asking. I don't have Twitter nor any social media, so I'm lost here.
We just need to ask- what is art and creativity giving us? It gives a sense of freedom, empowerment and confidence! AI can’t give us those feelings by producing art for us. We (humans) will always create as long as we remember the joy of feeding our souls!
Fact check: Bolivia absolutely produces lithium. The accusations against Musk came about because he tweeted, "We will coup whoever we want! Deal with it!" after the Bolivian coup in 2019. I guess 4 years is a long time from some perspectives, but we literally have knowledge in our pockets at all times. It's easy to look up. Also, "I kind of like the patriarchy!" Girl, bye. Smash the patriarchy. It did not give you roads, Uber, food, or the supply chain. That perspective completely ignores the contributions of women that helped create these things and keep them running. What the patriarchy did give us is a pay gap, impossible to meet gender roles and expectations for both men and women (and obviously non-binary people), the erosion of bodily autonomy for women, etc. There are some hidden gems in here. Hopefully the bad parts are ignorance, though with the Bolivia comment it would have to be willful ignorance. All this interview did for me was encourage me to look up the interviewer's podcast and music. She seems really cool.
The level of deliberate lies and Red pill philosophy coming from Grimes is despicable as well as highly hypocritical, considering the amount she spoke out and railed against the patriarchy and rampant misogyny in the music industry.
I'm sure her life is in a position now where unfortunately she has contracts that buy her silence. As for the patriarchy comment I feel as though she may be a bit misunderstood, it seems as though she was trying to acknowledge the positives in a negative situation and saying that we should progress and improve instead of focusing on hate, which is a nice idea in theory.
I think I do agree on the gatekeeping stranglehold that has prevented new artists and ideas from truly forming and getting the eyes they deserve. It’s hard to make it fair
11:05 this is VERY interesting! When she first spoke about her releasing her voice to the public on her instagram i didn't get it, but this makes so much sense! ❤

I love grimes! Thank you for your newfound balanced perspective acknowledging the good in both sexes rather than spreading hate, build systems that focus on positive steps forward for women and reward them.
Love when she talked about Sci Fi Messed up education system and how to fix it, the human mind starts off beautiful but gets messed up by the external pain due to a messed up system. That she doesn’t believe in utopia. We must value pain as that’s how we learn and become stronger, that’s how change happens.
I love Grimes. Her interview style has changed since Elon entered her life. I can tell that she has learned a new way of speaking her ideas from observing his interview style and probably just from having intellectual conversations with him. It's not a negative thing, it's just interesting .....
she's doooosheee about her gen being "homo-tech" and that copyright shouldn't exist..which is just careless. But I get what you're saying ...love a lot of her music. I'm actually surprised that she (without music exp/edu) can create these tracks.
copyright is not about ego, it is about people making a living. Poor artists who are hoping to make enough money to live off of so that they can do their art or music. Without making a living off it, people are stuck in their day jobs with no time to make art. People who have the time to do it because they don't need day jobs, because they are married to rich people, don't need copy right.
Influenced by Musk. You can't be around someone and not be changed or Influenced by them. I still love her music and will always listen but I don't totally agree with what she is saying about "tech" and AI.

You have no business trying to diagnose someone you don’t know. Literally everyone has adhd you’re not special. Ppl with adhd can go through life pretty much completely fine.
I share the EXACT sentiment as her and love how she articulated that. Nothing is more exhausting than the freaking licensing. Like wtf. It should automatically be assumed the art is ours. Why can't we be on platforms without that? I mean thank God for soundcloud.
Yes, life is hard for everyone! What makes it harder is when the rich and powerful take away the means to earn money from the poor, based on half baked ideas by fascists.
He who believes he's oppressed is oppressed. He who doesn't make plans but instead goes after a dream with but a will and God's word in his corner is free
I think you either love her or you hate her, she is hard to understand for sure. Complex minds don't always deliver well, and no one likes change or radical thinking so it's understandable why people are quick to hate her. She may well be considered a pivotal figure for art and music in the future, much like the punks in the 60s. I think when people say things you don't agree with you have to at least try to understand where they're coming from, everyone has their reasons, even if that reason is shallow since it felt right in the moment. People are entitled to their opinions, as long as they're not hurting anyone. I liked her idea of progression instead of tearing down existing systems, if you think about the progression of tech in the last 30 years, that is the direction it's going in. Replace, don't fix, because the advancement is going too fast to implement in old systems
She was chosen to speak at this conference or whatever about women and music and she goes "i like the patriarchy cause man build stuffs" ugh lol but honestlyyyy grimes can be so unhinged so what can u expect
Yeah, that was an extremely tone-deaf comment. It makes it sound as though women actively chose not to take part in creating these foundations and systems when really they were oppressed and used as baby-making devices. Smashing the patriarchy isn't about punishing and excluding men - it's freeing them from the shackles of impossible expectations while allowing women to fully realise their potential.

Yeah like i believe in the romanticism in getting rid of copyright and art is bigger than the artist and it’s a conversation through time. Agree, all sounds great, but even like those old anonymous artists were being taken care of by patrons in order to survive and continue making work. There needs to be some financial accountability and loyalty to keep the artists making money so they can keep focusing on making work.

I loved her for her music first and foremost, but God its so entertaining to hear her talk. Something really pure and free and open about her thinking process. Her mind goes to places and makes connections that the average one does not. I’ve followed her long before Elon and this has not changed at all. She has just continued to learn and stay open. Grimes is gonna be the Kyrsten Sinema of music just watch. Bad takes too, Prince wouldn't even let his music on RUclips. Why would he be down for AI to emulate himself? Also the patriarchy because she likes roads and basic societal things? As if women play no part in that? It's literally the most misogynistic narrative that she casually embraces in an absolutist sense and is an insult to women.
her voice is her art specifically. it's a large part of her work and it's so recognisable that it would definitely benefit the writer. it could also have consequences for Grimes, so she's still taking a risk by allowing it at all, unlike others. allowing it with royalties is more than fair and a great attitude imo
Someone told me about finding your 'voice' as a poet, the 'poetic voice' (or any kind of artist's) and Grimes knows hers, she said in an earlier interview her singing voice was 'sh**ty and weak' but what she's achieved is a brilliant example and beautiful illustration of what an 'artist's voice' really means. ❤️

I watched this a couple of days ago and I legit can’t stop thinking about grimes saying she likes the patriarchy. Like was she swapped with a clone? I’ve been a fan of grimes for a long time and this whole interview seemed odd. It’s like she was trying to balance her own ideas with someone else’s narrative. I hope she’s okay.

I found this interview thought provoking. I've followed grimes since Visions and I love the bit about her becoming a mother. Personally I've not felt that calling in part because of the state of the world but her perspective on the future of education was refreshing and gives me hope for the future of our children rather than worry. I also love that she's been able to retain her sense of self since becoming a mother as I feel many mothers lose that. This is just my experience. Great interview!
God if only everyone was on this level of openness and intellect. Just soooo refreshing to hear thoughts with no ego or arrogance. I'm sure the interviewer is a nice person and she's pretty receptive to what grimes is saying but a lot of the time it's like she's not properly listening or bouncing back thoughts and idea's with her. Just a bit ... bleak.
I do like Grimes and find her so interesting but this concerns identity. The same reason why people are uncomfortable with deepfake technology is I don't want to see or hear myself in contexts so other and disconnected from me. I'm sure many artists would appreciated to be grounded in their creations, experiences, collaboration and not taken separate from it.
"great" things have came from racism also look at Nazi and science. Her patriarchy statement is annoying. She lost me there but I admire her freethinking
"Smash the patriarchy" I feel like we've fully reached a time now where that phrase can only be used as an outdated meme to make fun of a strawman version of a feminist by some red pilled neckbeard. Yet this lady unsarcastically said it expected Grimes' support lol.
People always say Elon must have influenced Grimes. This always bothered me, because why not the other way around? What about her influencing him? I thought it might be misogyny: because Grimes is the woman, people assumed she was helpless to his way of thinking. But after watching this interview, I have to admit that it seems like he's affected her way of viewing the world. Not that she has no original thoughts, but her former well-placed rage at aspects of the system seems to have been tempered with glossy justifications.
I like that she expected grimes to follow up with the generic 'yeah girl power, destroy the patriarchy' trope and actually got fact checked on 5th grade history by someone educated.
@daisyhinojosa23 You might have missed the point of 35:00 after listening to her whole train of thought about the patriarchy and modernity it was pretty insightful and profound
You have to release a cover track through an online music distributor like distrokid, otherwise you'll get copyrighted by the rights holder. In this case it was probably from her old record label. She's not signed now since her label contract expired after the last album. Grimes doesn't control what the publisher does with copyright song ID on RUclips.
55:45 Absolutely! All progress that we have achieved is a response to pain, some sort of a problem that needs fixing, something that has to be defied. It’s what keeps us going, what makes us evolve and become better. A utopia would only make us devolve. A very clear example is evolution - when something is lacking, it develops to accommodate whatever the demand is, if something stops being used, it atrophies. The perfect life and a lack of problems would lead to our demise. Not to mention that a utopia sounds boring.
This makes no sense. In a utopia there's obviously going to be pain. But it's going to be different. In a world without war and inequality we are going to become more sensitive to the little things, arguably relatively small things that we didn't think about in the past will bother us tremendously. Think of today and the anti-aging skincare culture. Pain and suffering will still exist, but we don't need to live in a destructive and inefficient society to experience it. Even considering techno-utopias where humans achieve close immortality, the pain of simple universal laws like the passing of time and nostalgia, the pain of things not turning out perfectly just as you wanted them, the pain of simple existential concepts, the pain of not knowing what our dreams and aspirations are, the pain of growth and progress itself... honestly I don't understand people who don't want a utopia. Life is never going to be 'perfect' even in a 'utopia'. But I guess the disconnection from the very real suffering of people living in poverty and dying in wars today is real.
A better life will lead to new, novel, more complicated problems. No devolution there. I mean look at the world today - we've evolved into the most globally peaceful time of our literal species yet we still have problems of pollution, inefficient resource management and social problems up the wazoo. Did we... end up with less problems?
@@user-ex8ki3sz6i I guess a lot of it boils down to what a person’s definition of utopia is. For me a utopia means all people literally being perfect - having morals, being selfless - our world is what we make it so it all depends on the people. But it’s not in our nature to be perfect - we have egos, we are greedy and where people exist corruption, conflicts, etc. always has existed, exists and will exist. “Utopia” literally means “no place” in greek.
She sounds a lot like Kanye to be honest (before the antisemitism), always repeating the same concepts and because they are different and throwing around big words it’s fascinating to some. But I don’t think half of it is even a reality, most of it is in her fantasy. Without a record deal it’s also going to be difficult to get work done. I am afraid her ideas will stay just that a fantasy.

People lost their minds when the internet became accessible. Same for TVs and Phones. For fuck sake people lost their minds when science became accessible too, calling it witchcraft and anti church. People love to collectively freak out when they don't understand something and I just like to sit back and watch 😭🤣
I genuinely think people view 'ai' as android robots w human bodies and fully sentient human brains 😭
See I relate to Grimes BC I'm Autistic and I consistently just say things that make sense to me and am then called rude for it.
Correct. He definitely would not.
He basically fought for the opposite of all she is saying. ☯️. I love Grimes but personally feel Musk may have done a number on her.

I'm sure her life is in a position now where unfortunately she has contracts that buy her silence.

Just a bit ... bleak.
Yeah she seemed a bit lost at times haha. But it was a nice interview, she let Grimes speak with no interruptions.
RIP Sophie ❤
She's so fascinating, her interviews are always so good
Elon Musk has never been this famous. Thanks Grimes. Did an incredible job.
for real
She is only famous cuz of Elon...no one knew who she truly was until he took her to the Gala in 2018...😂😂😂
@@barbara-dq8up Marie Curie it is. :))))
aye, i’ll take it.
"great" things have came from racism also look at Nazi and science. Her patriarchy statement is annoying. She lost me there but I admire her freethinking
It wasn't racism it was war genius.
yeah she lost me there too
Her calling Elon her babydaddy lmao, Invading bolivia for lithium lmao
Haha right
Grimes pls just give us book1& 2 miss girl
"Smash the patriarchy"
I feel like we've fully reached a time now where that phrase can only be used as an outdated meme to make fun of a strawman version of a feminist by some red pilled neckbeard.
Not that she has no original thoughts, but her former well-placed rage at aspects of the system seems to have been tempered with glossy justifications.
true
34:50 This deserves a standing ovation 🎉 Grimes has so much insight and wisdom.
I like that she expected grimes to follow up with the generic 'yeah girl power, destroy the patriarchy' trope and actually got fact checked on 5th grade history by someone educated.
Love grimes so much
She doesnt put a full stop she uses the word like to connect every sentence lol i lovee her
she talks soo fast it’s like she wants to say a million things but her mouth can’t keep up lol she’s so cool
@daisyhinojosa23 You might have missed the point of 35:00 after listening to her whole train of thought about the patriarchy and modernity it was pretty insightful and profound
I got a copyright claim on my grimes cover last night. And she says herself she doesn’t care who uses her stuff. How lame lol
You have to release a cover track through an online music distributor like distrokid, otherwise you'll get copyrighted by the rights holder. In this case it was probably from her old record label. She's not signed now since her label contract expired after the last album. Grimes doesn't control what the publisher does with copyright song ID on RUclips.
that's her former record label's claim though
That’s so annoying
26:00 what shes saying is she will NEVER collab with Azealia Banks
and Poppy
Julio Verne!
I'm thankful she's bringing scifi back. It's quite an expectation of mine for her. Don't worry, I don't know her. But our culture has been starved of vision, hope, purpose, and sanity. We're sick. We've been going through this period where it is ultra demonic and dark--not only the cliche monsters. I do not mean the mating call songs or groups. That's just my take.
Scifi is doing just great. She seems more interested in talking at length about things she knows a little bit about instead of doing things we all know she's brilliant at. But that's her choice.
@@ajaku From the sounds of it though it seems like she is making an effort to meet with people and understand this new technology.

Before today I'd no idea about Grimes or her art . Interesting person.....
No way she’s 34/35 😭
Ikr she looks way younger 😭
She had a facelift
That's what 34/35 looks like, 19 year olds are trippin. Ageism is an ouroubous that bites you in the ass fyi.
Yeah, I agree with the comments that people in their 30s are not supposed to look old, but also its coupled with the fact that the way she dresses and wears her hair are in ways childish. She has a small frame and she seems to have a young spirit and mind. The more I look into her, the more I feel like she infantalizes herself in ways.....and I'm a fan, but it's hard not to notice. So when I think people say she looks young, I think subconscious they're noticing those things also.
I mean 30s isn't that old tho
Who does grimes play as in league
So...is BOOK 1 scrapped then? What is happening?
From what I've gathered there seems to have been an issue where she wasn't allowed to release it, why, I have no idea, maybe something to do with Elon or her children?
But she says it will come eventually, knowing her spontaneity she will release three albums in quick succession
this is a perfect example of being envious but having nothing to actually talk shit about cuz u hate yourselve
Sort of hate nature 🥺 def checks out with her mirror post recently on x
I love when she gets seemingly comfortable in her speaking cadence and talks about the most fascinating ideas 💡
Spy mission: successful
Totes not unemployable without it, but prob far less happy
Brilliant take at 22:00 on the beauty and potential of AI
Cute laugh at 30:53
She's spot on about pain. Think about it some greatest songs, books, art etc. were made because of pain.
I missed that part. 00:00
Just got to it here at the end 54:40
