I like to watch how you try something and then change direction, try something else, then change that. The development is encouraging and interesting to watch.
Karen, love love love your paintings; your demonstrations have helped me to loosen up and use lots of color. My customers love what I'm doing with my art. Thank you . Carolyn
I am just so amazed at the evolution of this painting. Wow! Wish I was closer so that I could see this for real. Please keep these coming. Pam from Australia.
So very nice. I like how the original "drawing" partly remains. Adds depth and also gives it a less feminine vibe. Soft with hints of structure. Really gorgeous.
Beautiful. I think the painting is great and finished. Then you come back, put more paint on , work it in and softened then it's even better x Amazing. Thank you
If you mean transparent then there are many acrylics that are just that. Each painting has over 10 layers of acrylic paint and washes letting each dry in between applications.
When you are painting do you mix your acrylics with water? Also, do you use a fresh paint brush for each color? I love your videos I will keep watching.
Thanks for watching and for your comment, Virginia. I don't pay attention to sizes etc. I buy mostly inexpensive ones from craft stores. Check my blog for one I posted a about tools . Here is a quick link. http.www.karenhale/2019/12/30/tools-i-use/
I absolutely love your work. It's inspiring and just makes me want to pick up a brush. Can I ask, Do you add water or a pouring medium to blend? I feel like my colors always blend together and become muddy.
Thank you, Courtney, for your comment. There are 10+ layers on each painting so I let them dry in between. I mainly use water. Pick up that brush and keep on!
Thanks for your comment, Mary. I see my videos as a glimpse into my process and not really a tutorial although I have many people tell me they find them useful. I try to stay within the RUclips guidelines as to time so that's why they are double time so I can get as much content as possible in them. Even at that they are too long. I don't offer workshops or other videos.
That is the age old question. I take it to a certain point when I think it's close then turn my easel toward the door, walk away for the day. When I come back the next day and have a fresh look I know what needs to be done. Hope that helps, Joy.
I wish it wasn't speeded up so I could see how often you spray. I just tried an abstract piece and every time I sprayed it ran into what I'd already painted. It became a big ol' mess.
Thank you for your feedback. I try to stay within the timeframe that RUclips recommends and still get as much content as possible so they are done at 2X's normal speed. You can see a slower version by clicking on the cog wheel to the right of the video. That allows you to adjust the speed.
So you you kind of follow the lines that you made in the beginning with random colors and then go from there? My mother asked me to paint her something for our fireplace mantel so I’m watching videos for tips and ideas and I found your channel! 😂
So beautiful and just when I think you're there another layer goes on! Fabulous!!
Beautiful 😍
thank kyou
It’s that over brushing technique that is so beautiful. Thank you for showing….will practice!

That is terrific! Glad they are helpful.
Really appreciate you sharing your process in this way, Karen. Helps me to paint differently.

I am just so amazed at the evolution of this painting. Wow! Wish I was closer so that I could see this for real. Please keep these coming. Pam from Australia.
Stunning.
Thanks!
Stunning. Absolutely ridiculous! Beautiful
Thanks, Jennifer. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
So very nice. I like how the original "drawing" partly remains. Adds depth and also gives it a less feminine vibe. Soft with hints of structure. Really gorgeous.
I do like to leave underlying line and color. Thanks for the comment, Cheri. This is one of my favorites.

Very nice !
Beautiful
worth to spend time watching ur painting!
So glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watcing.
This is so beautiful 😊💕
Thanks, Shelley. I'm glad you liked the video.
How does the paint appear so light? My acrylic paints come out quite opaque
If you mean transparent then there are many acrylics that are just that. Each painting has over 10 layers of acrylic paint and washes letting each dry in between applications.
You are an amazing inspiration Karen Hale...thank you! From Australia
This is just amazing, I really love your technique, wonderful!
Glad you like the video. Thanks for watching.
I wish you could come to Knoxville TN and teach a class! Would be a privilege to watch you paint and learn techniques from you! Lola
Thanks for the comment, Lola. The best I can offer are my demo videos since I don't do workshops. I hope you find them useful.
When you are painting do you mix your acrylics with water? Also, do you use a fresh paint brush for each color? I love your videos I will keep watching.
I mainly use water, Lola, and don't always use a fresh brush. You can get some interesting colors by reusing the brush. Thanks for watcing.
Hello Karen 👋 do you use soft body acrylics on any of your videos?
I do use those but mostly fluid.
I have just found you and absolutely love your work! You are such a talent!
Thanks for joining, Tami. I appreciate your support.
Really love the end result. Which brushes did you use ? Thkx
Check this link to my blog that talks about tools. It may be helpful. www.karenhale.com/2019/12/30/tools-i-use/
Karen Hale Paintings thanks, you’ve helped me a lot. Looking forward to more of your videos .Bravo!
@@mona2242 That's so very nice to hear. I try to upload a new video each Wednesday
MAGNIFIQUE. une petite question vos peintures sont de l'acrylique car c'est tellement dilué que l'on dirait de l'aquarelle. merci de votre réponse.
Gorgeous
I would like to know the sizes of your brushes, plese. Love your work!
Thanks for watching and for your comment, Virginia. I don't pay attention to sizes etc. I buy mostly inexpensive ones from craft stores. Check my blog for one I posted a about tools . Here is a quick link. http.www.karenhale/2019/12/30/tools-i-use/
Brilliant, again, master blender.
Thanks for watching.
Another beauty Karen!
Thanks!
awesome !!!
Thank you very much.
do you use water to spray or something else
What you are seeing, Grant, is water in the spray bottle.
So is your paint somewhat wet because mine did not come out and I love the blurriness, but I need more info as I new to abstract.
I do work wet on wet.
Que bonito 👍🤗
Thanks, glad you like it.
My new favorite of yours! One of many faves. Are you using a color sculpting tool? Love the palette, but always love your palettes!
Thanks for watching, Dee. It's a shaper that you can get at an art store.
Two inch?
I don't have a clue what I used. I have a lot of different tools in lots of sizes.
Thanks. I slowed video down and saw that it was a shaper. Thanks again!
Love it.
Pick up that brush and keep on!
lovely work Karen TFS Mairead in Ireland
Thanks!
VERY BEAUTIFUL.....:)
Thanks so much, Ann.
hi karen,,,do you have a step by step video I could purchase?
Sorry, I don't have anything like that. I can't seem to think, talk, work and be charming all at the same time.
its okay,,I though id ask... thank you for replying.
Hi. I love your work. Do you ever do longer instructional videos or do you offer classes/workshops?
Thanks for your comment, Mary. I see my videos as a glimpse into my process and not really a tutorial although I have many people tell me they find them useful. I try to stay within the RUclips guidelines as to time so that's why they are double time so I can get as much content as possible in them. Even at that they are too long. I don't offer workshops or other videos.
How do you know when to stop?
That is the age old question. I take it to a certain point when I think it's close then turn my easel toward the door, walk away for the day. When I come back the next day and have a fresh look I know what needs to be done. Hope that helps, Joy.
awesome
Thanks very much. I've always liked this one too.
True artist.
That is very kind of you to say. Thank you.
what size brush?
The first brush is a striper brush the other one is maybe 1 1/2". Not sure.
Love watching your videos, Karen!!
Thank you so much!
Really cool! Is that water in your bottle?
Thanks for stopping by, Hanna. Yes, it's water in the bottle.
Excellent
Thank you very much.
Красота!
Thank you very much.
Very nice,good composition Karen.
Do you paints on wet or allow to dry first, it’s amazing.
Thanks for the comment. There are 10+ layers of acrylic paint on each painting. I work wet in wet, let each layer dryer then repeat.
Thanks Karen
Nice .
Thank you very much.
I wish it wasn't speeded up so I could see how often you spray. I just tried an abstract piece and every time I sprayed it ran into what I'd already painted. It became a big ol' mess.
You can adjust the speed by clicking on the settings cog at the lower right side of the video.
nice.
Good
Maravilhoso
Thanks, Silvia.
I`m new to this. What mediums are you using?
De plus en plus fan j j'aimerais pouvoir en faire autant merci:-):-):-):-):-)
Thanks, Annik
I am 61 and thinking of doing the same type of paintings.
Einfach fantastisch! Aber könntest du die Videos etwas langsamer machen?
Thank you for your feedback. I try to stay within the timeframe that RUclips recommends and still get as much content as possible so they are done at 2X's normal speed. You can see a slower version by clicking on the cog wheel to the right of the video. That allows you to adjust the speed.
So you you kind of follow the lines that you made in the beginning with random colors and then go from there? My mother asked me to paint her something for our fireplace mantel so I’m watching videos for tips and ideas and I found your channel! 😂
Also - if you make a big mess, do you ever paint over the whole thing in white and start all over again? Asking for a friend!! LOL
If I'm not happy with the painting I will paint over it. I figure if it was good enough for the masters, it's good enough for me.
Lose the intrusive music
You can turn it off.
@@karenhalepaintings I know ☺
