It is a much easier method than the traditional process but we can't degrade the old master work and their classic great artwork, and much inspiring value able than modern art.
One of the reasons people in the past were passionate about flowers and even fruit paintings is that there was true seasonality - you just couldn't have roses in winter for most of human history so the art stirred feelings of luxury, longing, gratitude, and more. We live in abundance that's taken for granted now; the still lives just don't hit the same way. However, they can stir something else, like a love of nature, simplicity, youth, potential, growth, etc. When that's done, it's brilliant.
Yes and an entire language existed then both in the West and (a different language) in the Far East that spoke to seasonality, rarity, commonality, but also specific values, desires, passions, virtues, etc. even the stage of the flower’s freshness-decay carried meaning (on its own and relative to the other items in the painting). As a gardener, sure, I get some of that from my own lived experience, but I guess I have to admit that, without spending all the time it would take to learn that language, I am not able to “read” the painting as it could have been when it was created. I mean I took an entire course on nothing but this when I was in university in Japan, and I def can read some Asian floral paintings, but I read them at the equivalent of something like a fourth grade level.
Love this comment. I am trying to get into flower paintings and having this tidbit will help me modernize the concept in a different way. Sort of to think of why women today love to have weekly bouquets in their homes, and flower tattoos but not paintings or photos of flowers so much. It's such a big trend for modern influencer to be seen with their bouquets but for art, they like completely different, often abstract concepts.
I am a design student and when I first stumbled across your art a few months ago I was happy a more traditional artist was implimenting ellements into the "old genre" of painting through meathods of design found mostly in digital art, that added a fresher/ modern look to the paintings. Not to mention your mastery use of oil paint. Keep inspiring!
There's something about simplicity that's so inspirational. That even with a basic subject, looking at the building blocks, or in this case brush strokes, seeing how it's made inspires us to create.
It looks beautiful! The colours are matching, it looks realistic but at the same time it doesn't have complicated details, only textures which makes the whole painting look so modern. You have definitely reached your goals!
Interesting points about using a square canvas and incorporating aspects of digital painting! I have been feeling pretty down lately about my painting so thank you for the inspiration and guidance!
Actually I have never met a flower painting that I didn’t love ❤️ I really love the old so-called dusty painting in particular my favorite is broken tulips 🌷 which you can’t find in modern times. Matter fact I like all flower paintings that’s why I actually found you because of your flowers not for your portraits. I love Quinn red I also like Quinn Crimson red
Yep, you did it. I have never ever wanted to paint a flower until now. Beautiful! Wish I had a better word, but, it's late here and I'm a little sleepy after watching this. ❤
The antique version of floral paintings: simply realistic. Your version of floral paintings: more simple but more standing out, and of course more thought-provoking. But both are beautiful in their own ways.
Lol I never realized that I was using modern art traits in my work until watching your insightful video;I enjoy combining realism and abstraction too! You're right, applying these principles to subjects like flowers and still lives breathes new life into a dull subject for yourself and your audience❤💯
Thank you for this! Oh wow, I never realized this could even be possible. This just *really* opens up the possibility for bringing back old genres with a contemporary taste and design.
@@melaniabladeofmiquella Generally speaking, I'd say "anyone with an interest in art", right? I don't think anyone has been exclusively exposed to contemporary art - and if they have, do they really have the right to say they like or appreciate art?
@@loati94 that’s unfortunate. There are truly some amazing paintings in history. Maybe you just haven’t found the ones that you like. Personally I really love Basquiat and Van Gogh. Picasso Munch Bacon Pollock and Rothko are all recent geniuses. Condo is also really interesting (although he’s still alive so I don’t think he counts as an old master).
Funny thing is...I just finished my second flower/plant painting when this video went online 😂 Your paintings are far more amazing of course! I love your modern painting style, especially combined with more minimalist objects you paint. It's so fascinating to see the different values and structures in such simple things, it makes me so happy 🥰 Your paintings are the main reason I had to try oil painting myself! Absolut geniales Video! Habe gestern erst deinen Kanal gefunden und kann mich kaum trennen…Wirklich etwas Besonderes inmitten der gefühlten Millionen Videos, die amateurhaft sind und/oder ständig Altbekanntes wiederholen Danke!
I typically don't like floral paintings by itself but when it's used more background for other subjects, it's works for me. The great painting of Sargent: Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose; is one of my favorites of all time. I have done floral sketches as studies but I won't commit them to paint because like you say, it's not interesting enough. I do like your modern floral painting. I love your use of large brush strokes to give striking texture to the painting. You have a great sense of contrast with brush strokes, tone and color. Thanks for the video.
Great video... it got me excited about doing art again :)) I think flowers are one of the classics, they will eventually come back again. Personally ever since i started gardening I noticed flowers emit some sort of superiority. There is nothing more beautiful then a fresh healthy grown flower... the colors, forms, detail, it just looks incredible, and then how its beauty fades as it wilts and then starts again as a new one grows. Its almost magical
I read somewhere that to be innovative, one must adhere to convention just enough to not be too ahead of one's time. Your lovely painting demonstrates that quite well.
This is so inspirational 🌺 I do a lot of botanical line art but not strictly "accurate", I'm really inspired by artists like Irina Vinnick - she takes inspiration from nature but focuses on lines, form, flow, texture, design etc and weaves in other things like architecture, calligraphy, creatures, fantasy & more Her pieces are obviously very differently to these gorgeously paintings but she still has a similar approach I feel. Complexity, design, purposeful marks, texture etc are all more important than "realistic" renditions in her ink art. And to me, they feel so authentic and really capture the spirit of the subject. Her attention to detail and observational skills are so good. I also love more traditional botanical art, but paintings like these, and ink art like Vinnick's really inspire me to try something new! Amazing painting. Thank you very much for sharing your flower journey!
This is the method which I was exactly looking for... Creating floral stilllife in old method has got less audiance since many art prints are taking place of Painting.. But when we go for morden art style no photographs can replace the uniqueness.. that's what I felt now a days and trying to build modern art in everything.. It's time to accept the fact that the way of looking into art has got change.. Thanks for conveying it in a wonderful way 🙏😊
This is so timely! I have been working (and reworking… and reworking) a concept rose for a very patient, but increasingly eager, recipient. Thank you for this one. Very affirming! :)
Superb! Vibrant, original, modern rendering of a subject considered as 'classical' and 'boring'. And above all: what a wonderful execution ! Each brush troke, especially the ones of the multi-green leaves, is a a unique piece of art.
As a flower painting lover, gardener and former hobby painter I feel called out 🤣 I think florals have made a huge comeback in fashion and art in the past 10 years. But I understand what you’re getting at. I hated florals for a while because they were everywhere in the 90’s. It took me a few years to warm up to them again when it comes to fashion/home decor. Beautiful painting! p.s. Flowers are cool 😎
I wish I had your judgement on what goes where, when and what covers what, I am still very interested, yes. Your paintings are incredible, especially the flowers and faces

yup. Florals are among my most favored subjects to see and paint.
Even "hobby"painters can produce realy lovely paintings. Let's not be snobbish
That was exactly my thought when I heard that line. It put me off quite a bit. A hobbyist, or amateur, strives to create beautiful work as well.
Flower painting does not need reinventing!
I find floral paintings boring. But yours.. Just like you said speaks to the modern spirit. I love it!
