    The Apocalypse Challenge
Do you think you have a firearm that beats the Raging Judge Magnum as the best apocalypse gun? Here are the minimum requirements to be considered a contender. Every requirement involves a reasonably likely apocalypse situation and is of life-saving importance:
    1. Must be able to fire cartridges that penetrate Level 3A body armor.
    2. Must be able to clear a misfire and fire again in 0.5 seconds.
    3. Must be able to fire at least 4 shots without reloading.
    4. Must be able to charge, clear a misfire in 0.5 seconds, and effectively fire with one hand.
    5. Must be able to chamber and fire at least one of the most popular cartridges
    (9mm, 5.56, 45APC, 40S&W, 22LR)
    6. Must weigh no more than 5 pounds.
    7. Must be able to fit in a kid’s school back pack.
Here are the rationales for why these seven requirements are essential for an apocalypse gun:
    Why the Body Armor requirement?
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, civilians were murdered by armed men wearing body armor. Every town that has a police station has at least one suit of Level 3A body armor, as should every smart prepper. Facing foes wearing body armor is a credible and documented lethal threat in post disaster situations.
Why the 0.5 Second Clearing Requirement?
Compromised ammo will become more and more common the longer the apocalypse continues. It should be expected and planned for. This becomes a big problem if the first round chambered is a dud. Since the average shooting incident lasts only 3 shots, a delay in firing for more than 0.5 seconds can be fatal. Also, bears charge at 50 feet per second. A delay of more than 0.5 seconds in that case would also be fatal.
    Why the 4 Shot Requirement?
The average shooting incident lasts 3 shots, so a weapon must be able to quickly return fire for at least that many shots plus one for insurance. Also, charging animals like bears may require multiple follow-up shots to stop. To beat the Raging Judge Magnum in this category your weapon must be able to exceed 6 shots without reloading.
    Why the One Hand Requirement?
One-handed charging, firing, and clearing is required if you need to shoot and steer a vehicle, shoot while fleeing with supplies in hand or carrying children, or shoot while one arm/hand is disabled due to injury. All these situations are not unlikely to arise during an apocalypse.
    Why the Ammo Requirement?
In an apocalypse, countless scenarios can separate you from your stockpile of ammunition or compromise the ammo you are carrying. Having a gun that fires one of the big 5 cartridges (9mm, 5.56, 45APC, 40S&W, 22LR) gives you the best chance of being able to scavenge or barter for ammo that you can use. To beat the Raging Judge Magnum a weapon must be able to fire 10 different cartridge types -3 of the top 5 and 7 other types (9mm, 45ACP, 22LR, 454 Casull, 38 Special, 45 colt, 410 2.5”, 410 3”,.380, and 44 Magnum-if you’re desperate).
NOTE: If a weapon can meet all the other criteria and offer other significant advantages over the Raging Judge Magnum the following cartridges could also be considered: 12 Gauge (5.5% of ammo sales), .308 (5%), 7.62x39 (4%), and 38 Special (3.3%).
    Why the Weight Requirement?
Multi-day foot travel may become a necessity during the apocalypse. The backpacking rule of thumb is that gear carried should weigh 20% of the hiker’s unburdened weight (so a 150lb hiker should carry about 30 lbs). Most backpackers have trouble getting to 20% and that’s without carrying a weapon. So any weapon over 5lbs will result in sacrificing some other critical, life-saving supplies and tools - especially on extended trips (remember, 2 quarts of water alone consumes 4lbs of weight).
    Why the Backpack Requirement?
A kid’s school backpack is the largest size pack that is not likely to arouse suspicion while walking around in populated areas. Weapons that fit into those packs will also fit under a car seat. In a post disaster situation, you will likely have to visit/travel through towns or camps for supplies, medical attention, news, or human companionship. It is likely they will be occupied with some level of military, police, or militia presence, and have roadway check points/roadblocks. In these cases, non-concealed weapons may prevent your entry, be immediately confiscated, or get you shot on sight.

If you’re planning on only using one gun in a SHTF situation you have failed the SHTF test. You should have multiple calibers and multiple weapons for any number of situations that may or may not occur. And I would for damn sure not trust my life or the life of a family member to a Taurus revolver! As a matter of fact my wife lost the upper half of her index finger due to a Taurus pistol Malfunction.

You have a hard on for a certain revolver?? You talk about how wonderful it is because it can do ALL these things.. But yet you will also need to carry all these different types of ammo. Also now the revolver is scoped? So you firstly you need to carry a scope for it and also sight it in using up much needed ammo.. Also when the swarms of drones attack, what? Stop, unload reload and continue? And when you say it can take down any of the following large animals using this specialized ammo, and the recoil from this firearm using this ammo is what? So now limiting the use of such a firearm only to those that can handle the recoil.. In your vids you talk about how crap .22 is for self defense yet you now say this can use it when ammo is lacking.. Ofcourse it's going to be lacking because the main ammo is scarce from the start.. If you have a hard on for this caliber then i guess it's perfect, if you have a hard on for a scoped revolver for your " end days" weapon then this is great. Self defense with a scoped revolver is gunna suck though..

Full power 357 fired from a 16" or longer carbine is as powerful as a 7.62mm AK. With 180gr hard cast lead you can realistically kill any game animal in North America. If you get crappy ammo you can still manually cycle a lever gun. And if things REALLY go bad, a lever gun will even work with black powder.
Pair it with a 4" 357 mag revolver...that's a hell of a good REAL WORLD SHTF setup.

They aren’t the same thing. What I was asking was other than the video,.. where did he find that statistic and then I’d like to see the definition of their terms. Because I’ve seen a gunfight and I’ve seen a shooting, they’re different in the sense that one is a prolonged and carried out engagement and includes suppressing and moving on a target while the other one, a shooting, is typically self defense and when you’re within 21 feet or so of the assailant when shots are fired extinguishing the threat. The nature of the scenarios are different.

I feel like the ability to consistently make a 100 yard shot within 6 inches or so is probably more important than a lot of the other requirements you list. The fact is that it's way easier to shoot long guns quickly and easily than handguns. They're more stable and ergonomic. A 8-10 inch barrel AR-15 probably beats all of your requirements. You'd have to go with a slim barrel and some lightened components to get sub 5 lb. Though that is kind of arbitrary. But it's easily possible. And with that you get a better fire rate, a gun that is far easier to shoot, and the capability to reach out to 2-300 yards. Plus, shooting more than 1 454 cassul round quickly is gonna be a bitch. And that ammo is very uncommon. If you must also have a handgun, bring a glock along or even this judge. But a handgun is a poor choice for a primary weapon. It's harder to use, far less useful for hunting, and the ammo for this one is rare.

    • @ВіталійЛуцан
      @ВіталійЛуцан 6 лет назад +5

This video considers you only rely on one weapon, and in that, i have to agree with the video. What you bring up, though, is also valid - and you could just as well have an AR and handgun. But that is where you realize ammo supply is gone, and thus you would have more and more issues with an automatic weapon. Pretty sure an AR15 and a pistol in .38 special or .45 ACP would be no worse of a combination at least at the start

    • @alrbredwall
      @alrbredwall 6 лет назад +5

    • @andrasbonitz3491
      @andrasbonitz3491 6 лет назад +7

All very good points, except one thing: in reality, you don't need to carry only one gun. You can carry a rifle/shotgun/bow as a primary and leave the handgun as a backup (which is what handguns are for really). You'll probably will be anyway, depending on what ammo and weapon you can get. You are far more likely to be adapting to your actual circumstance rather than trying to pursue some ideal of "ultimate apocalypse gun". So you can easily bring the hand-canon mentioned in the video and whatever rifle you find suitable.
The video really mostly addresses the hypothetical question rather than a real one. "If I want one, uber gun that will be useful in most end-of-the-worlds scenarios, which one would it be?". This thing is more useful for someone very experienced using high-recoil handguns than your average person. It already assumes that you have a kit and you are comfortable fiddling with ammunition.
But really, that question is more of a fantasy scenario than a real one. Most apocalypse will happen far too fast to really tailor your arsenal for (solar flares, nuclear war, alien invasion) or you will have years of advance warning (asteroid strike, economic collapse and *cough* global warming*cough*). Plus, I'm in the camp of simplicity and redundancy, rather than trying to get one piece of kit to do everything possible.

Ogre: IF you have the adapter that you had to buy separately and store (and screwed without them), which you have fiddle with every time you change caliber. You're screwed if you lose them or they become damaged.
An even better weapon would be the M47 Medusa, which can also fire different kinds of ammo WITHOUT adapters (although the accuracy suffers). It was a failure commercially because it is wiser to buy several decent guns using the most widely available ammo rather than try to make a gun that can fire several different types of ammo.

I just stumbled upon this video and found it comical. First of all, Taurus weapons are known to have issues or higher breakdown rates. I would never trust my life to a gun manufacturer known to have problems. Second, in a true SHTF scenario, you want a compact rifle that is probably in the 5.56 category. One commenter made a great point about engaging multiple threats at one time and 6 rounds ain’t gonna cut it. 5.56 is small, lightweight, powerful and plentiful. The gimmicks to shoot other rounds are simply gimmicks and I would never trust my life on them. Personally, I would use my Tavor x95.

That said, thank you for illustrating your lack of knowledge on the topic at hand.
      Lets take your rebuttal apart:
Lower price AR - you reference an 80% lower kit. An 80% lower - for people like you who are a little fuzzy on the details - is an almost complete lower receiver that requires you mill out the fire control (trigger, hammer, disconnector, selector) cavity as well as the pin holes to hold the parts in place. A jig is very helpful, as well as tooling that allows you to mill out the material. You also have to know what you are doing - this would rule you out puppy. Had you known what you are about, you would have linked a PSA Daily Deal for an upper kit and buy a lower at your LGS.
You then reference Cabelas. People who buy firearms at Cabelas rightfully pay an idiot tax, as Cabelas has a hefty markup on their guns. And then to buy a Taurus at Cabelas - that's just adding insult to injury, but you do you.
While Im not gonna call you a Fudd...I mean, c'mon.

AK Pistol with arm brace. 1.) Plenty of Power. 2.) very reliable and ergonomic. 3.) 30-50 round capacity. 4.) Arm brace allows for easy one handed fire. 5.) 7.62x39 is very common and is the cheapest ammo to stock up on. 6.) fairly light for its size, not gonna get any lighter without loosing your firepower. 7.) Arm brace could be folded to one side and weapon could be easily stowed in a bag or under a car seat..... Ar15 pistol with folding arm brace would be a good contender as well. 454 casul is not common and heavy as fuck. Id rather have a small compact carbine.

An AK pistol would be a high ranking choice for me, but I think an AR beats it out due to the uppers. If you don't have an SBR or want an SBR during rule of law, you can have an AR Pistol, and a separate AR rifle. Then, if the apocalypse happens, fuck off with the tax stamp bullshit, and throw the AR pistol upper on the rifle lower, and then keep the rifle length upper with you in case you need the added range/accuracy. You can also, if you want to deal with it, have different uppers in different calibers. For example, I can throw a 5.56 11" upper on there for when I am worried about being attacked by people, then swap out the upper with a 6.5 grendel, 6.8 spc etc with a 20" barrel and scope for hunting/needing to make a long shot with some decent longer range energy. Then, if shit gets really hairy, I can swap the upper out again with a .50 BMG and stop a truck. Good luck doing any of that with your AK pistol. Granted, at that point, I would really just have several different guns with me, like an ak pistol that I swapped a real stock onto, and a .308 bolt gun/ar 10, but since we are working within the parameters of this video, and a one gun only choice, AR lower with an infinite list of uppers would be my choice. (Since the raging bull gets to use cylinder inserts to skirt around the lack of .410 that actually works in a judge, 45 lc or 454 casul, I get to bring extra AR uppers to skirt around have just 5.56 at my disposal).

I understand this is just a silly thought exercise and it's sometimes fun to think about what you would do in an apocalyptic scenario, but I've always figured that fire will be king in the apocalypse. A single molotov cocktail can bring down just about any house or simple fortification and is pennies to make. Your house may not even be targeted- a city-wide fire could take you down easily and you couldn't stop it. The civil wars in the middle east are very revealing. I'd say plan on fireproofing your setup, or plan on moving around a lot before even considering specifics on guns.

High powered revolvers provide great ballistics in a compact platform.
However, their major disadvantage is their slow rate of fire and low mag capacity. This makes them terrible for addressing multiple targets. Considering the fact that in an environment of lawlessness, many criminal threats would consist of multiple attackers, this could make them far less effective than semiautomatic pistols or rifles.

The 454 Casull round, definitely gives you the option to fire a very powerful cartridge if needed. And revolvers are easy to shoot well. I don't see a problem with his Logic for the task. And if you want some real world data on a long range shooting involving a rifle an AR-15 and a revolver, you should look up the Vic Stacy shooting in Texas.

I can promise you that if you and I got in a gunfight at any range, my AR would be 100% more effective than ANY handgun you could bring. Speed and accuracy just don’t exist at the same levels in handguns as in rifles. It’s not even a fair contest.

If you shoot them in the shoulder with a 9mm maybe not. And a .22 I doubt would take anyone out of a fight for their life if taken in the shoulder. That being said if I was being shot at I would probably not have as good accuracy as I would like so I would rather put as much punishment on my attacker with each shot as I possibly could.

Yeah five 9mm projectiles with no expansion quality, much less accuracy, and bad spread due to the puny handgun barrel. Just admit to being a shill and stop misleading consumers. Because sure more projectiles are better on paper but if the projectiles are unpredictable and have large recoil hindering aim on follow up shots than whatever fake advantage it gives you is not only diminished but could even serve as a hindrance. Not to mention you bring up weight. A polymer handgun or rifle while may not be as durable is significantly less annoying to deal with than that monstrosity. And another thing you brought up was concealibility. I don't mean to insert my thoughts on this or anything but the only way your "concealing" that thing is in a backpack or if you have some kind of duster coat or some shit and if its in your backpack out of reach its not going to be very useful when you get attacked. Just being versatile in ammo doesn't mean any of those ammo's are useful choices in independent scenarios.

Overall I think his research is sound. I came across many of the same sources and statistics when I was making the decision to switch from 9mm to .357 mag. While his research was good, I disagree with the conclusion he came to. He latched on to the incident with 5 policemen wearing body armor and places a high priority in having a firearm that is capable of penetrating said body armor because of one incident. That's where he went wrong in my opinion. He discounted a lot of weapons that have strengths that will more likely be beneficial, in favor of the 454 Casull that has superiority in one scenario that has a relatively low probability of occurring.
That being said, I respect his research and his presentation. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'll be making a video on my opinion of this topic soon. I'm sure there will be folks who disagree with me.

If you want something easier that your wife could handle, an ar-15 chambered in .300 blackout. At close ranges, such as home protection, you don't really want something that could overpenetrate and hit some innocent bystander.
