You didn't ask in the shop how to pronounce the name? I think it's "Bood i Fund" but they could have told you better than I can ... ... and Google says it does literally mean "Food to go." translate.google.co.uk/#cy/en/Bwyd%20i%20Fynd
The nice thing about Cacen Gri is they're easy to make, the only real trick is like making Scones you want to handle the dough as little as possible, but anyone can make them at home on a griddle, I grew up with 4 siblings and when my Mam made them we'd queue to eat them warm off the griddle, and we'd always eat them with lots of butter, nice video, makes me want to make Welsh cakes now! I live just down the road from Betws, being damp even when it's not properly raining is pretty much the climate around here!
Snowdonia is one of my most favourite places in the world, even when it rains. Great scenery and walking. Shame you can't stay longer - so much to see and do.
I do love you two guys. I’m Welsh and live on the edge of Snowdonia and your videos are so complimentary of my lovely Country. Great fun to watch, and informative and interesting for travellers.
That a South Wales breakfast. Absolutely great (loved trying laverbread on a holiday to Cardiff) but not things you usually come across in North Wales. When I was growing up in Wales the differences between North and South Wales really puzzled me. Nowadays I just think it’s great that such a small country can have such a diversity, and not just in food. Although the language is broadly the same there are certain words that are different. E.g. the Welsh word for milk if different north and south.
The little steam train brought back great memories! The city next to our small town had a zoo that only had animals native to Michigan and were brought there if they had some issue and could no longer live in the wild. There was a train that traveled through the zoo and the waterside of the huge bay. If remembering correctly, it was a nice twenty minute ride and cost $1 for adults, 50 cents for 12 and under. Unfortunately, with growth, the zoo was no longer in a safe space and the powers that be decided to not move it to a better area but to just close it. They sold the train to a municipality in the southern area of Michigan. Too bad they didn't keep it on the waterfront as a tourist attraction.
@@Penddraig7 is there much truth in that claim? I'm sure there's some advantage but you're definitely right, youll probably not notice that much difference in a rental Vauxhall Astra. And the clutch control and driving style probably does more damage than the fuel choice.
stx the point is, because it’s poorer quality, it’s less efficient and therefore you get less miles to the gallon and it can actually cost you more because you have to refuel more, someone doing the odd trip is not really going to be that disadvantaged but those from uk who drive everyday will, it will cost them more over the year if they use supermarket petrol then if they go to shell or Esso etc the more you fill up in a year the more you will be paying, it doesn’t always pay to go cheap!
We’ve had Welsh cakes from there and they’re so good, and Bets-y-Coyed is a lovely town with fun stuff to do near. Love the station and Garilla cafes :)
Those Welsh Cakes are fantastic. Have tasted them loads of times. We love visiting snowdonia. My mum was Welsh she had the old fashioned griddle used to make them. Lovely still warm.
Hi Allison & Eric, Its Tony here from my home city of Edinburgh i just came across your u- tube by accident just the other day and after only watching a few of your vlogs i subd your channel. Only just discovered you 2 and subbed after the first watch 👍🏻 Love watching you reactions to different foods and places 😂 keep it up,with love from Birmingham,England
Yes, I love this episode! The cute little train ride alone was worth it. Though your foodie experiences are so delectable in many ways. Best yet, you really seem sincere in your tastes and reviews. Safe travels guys. Blessings, James & Kim
from bristol all round the cotswolds and up to wales and half way back to manchester i would say thats a deal, have you ever tried doing that on train? You would need a second mortgage.
Just saw this video today. It brought back great memories. I used to live in South Wales but moved back home to America. My mother in law made the most awesome Welsh cakes. Safe travels guys 😊
That's just a full English breakfast there is just less on it. Minus mushrooms. Minus black pudding. And what significance is the Jam with a savoury breakfast
Had that been a premium Highland single-malt, adding lime would probably be grounds for deportation! Great vid, keep up the fine work. Try to visit Eilean Donan Castle while on Skye.
As a Brit, have discovered and love your vids. Makes me realise what a beautiful country we live in, when looked at through your eyes. Thank you for your appreciation. Glad you have had fun; wish you much more! Whisky neat with just water, and, if you have to, 1 little ice. Let it drift around your mouth. And buy a good one!!! Do try the malt whiskies - they vary so much. Recommend Bruicladdich and Glenmorangie as two of the (but delicious ) extremes. But only a small drop of water. Roll over and over the tongue!
I love your up-beat enthusiasm for everything, regardless of our very temperamental weather. Your vids are very nice to watch. Assuming you were visiting in 2018, what a shame you missed our hottest, driest summer, for 40 years..
Haha we made Welsh cakes for our wedding favors - and then forgot to give them out! Had 400 small heart shaped welsh cakes all to ourselves! We always give Welsh cakes to family in England for Christmas.
I love your videos so much they always bring a smile to my face. You're teaching me things about my own country I should know. It's a little early but I'm going to congratulate you for 150K subs as it's bound to happen any day now.
Welsh is a beautiful language - and you can learn it using RUclips, and other langauge aps. My mother's side is originally from Wales - Rees is a common name there. Diolch yn fawr! (Dee-olchun va-urr! The "ch" is similar to that in German, only, not quite as rough.) Stay safe, and have fun!
I really enjoyed your videos in Wales! It seems you were staying just around the corner from me in Deganwy :) Now I'll have to keep up to date with the rest of your adventures! Enjoy Scotland - but come back to Wales soon. Hwyl!
Allison certainly looks the part of a Scottish lass with her pretty red hair & fair complexion 🏴🇬🇧🇺🇸 :) , I'll have to show my 89 yr. old Mum who was born in Scotland the upcoming episodes of her homeland, she'll enjoy them.. Nice video..
Oh dear! You're in scotland and drinking terrible whisky. Please visit Edradour, Scotland's smallest distillery. It's near pitlochry, does a brilliant short tour, and you get to taste some really good stuff. Also it is as pretty as heaven.
Next time you guys are in South Wales, you should visit the Trago Mills mega store in Merthyr Tydfil. You can get an amazing Yorkshire pudding wrap there from the Crosswoods store, there's also a great welshcake shop there with a great variety of different welshcakes to try 👍🏻
Something else worth seeing in Betws-y-Coed is the small church, up Old Church Road. It's rather old. Pick the right time when the lady who looks after it is there and she can tell you quite a bit about the history of the village, and of course the church. And the train ride is definitely worthwhile. 8) If you're there in the evening, I recommend the Stables Bar for food, attached to the Royal Oak Hotel. Note that although the region in general is probably more well known for various outdoor pursuits, there are a great many museums, castles, mines and other places to visit. Dinorwig hydroelectric power station is worth seing, very interesting place (electricmountain.co.uk), though the visitor centre is closed just now for refurbishment work (reopens Easter 2019). Btw, if heading up to Scotland, the M6 motorway route past Wigan can be rather busy, not pleasant if you're unfamiliar with UK roads. An alternative route is to cross the bridge at Runcorn, rejoin the M6 a bit further north; especially wise if the weather is bad, the spray on the motorway from large trucks is dreadful. Also, if heading for Edinburgh, instead of following the motorway all the way, come off at Junction 15, take the A701 north/east through Moffat (nice place to stop, free parking, I recommend the Rublin' Tum cafe), a good scenic drive. After going through a village called Romannobridge, look out for and take the B7059 (left-hand turnoff) to West Linton; once there, turn right onto the A702 to Edinburgh. This avoids the slow urban area of Penicuik (if you miss the B7059, just follow the A701, noting the left turn it takes at Leadburn). The A702 from West Linton is better though. Eventually you'll reach the city bypass, at which point you can head west or east if need be, or continue north into the city outskirts, depending on where you want to go. I don't recommend the A1 route to Scotland because it's a less pleasant drive, the A1 can be horribly busy (renowned for accidents), and one ends up on the east side of Edinburgh which has some horrid roundabouts on the bypass. Going to Glasgow is somewhat easier, the motorway routes go right into the heart of the city. Lastly, if you need a break on the M6, there's a nice chip shop in a small place called Shap. :) Come off at Junction 39; afterwards, if you like you can continue north on the A6 for a while which shadows the motorway for a few miles, rejoin the motorway at Junction 40, via the A66 (just south of Penrith). Motorway service stations are expensive and the food is generally terrible. Likewise, fill up with petrol at a supermarket in a town before joining a motorway, as fuel prices on the motorways can be very high, just like the food cost.
The reason you are not fans of Scotch is due to you buying what is more or less the cheapest pretty horrible Scotch there is. I am a fan of highland Scotch I would suggest before you leave get a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 its a fantastic introduction to highland Scotch at an affordable price. Its warm and fruity with some hints of citrus it really opens up with a little water and with a sweet finish would make you think its Bourbon! The flavour profiles of Scottish whisky is massive and a awesome journey to have!
Nice video guys, breakfast and Welsh cakes all looked really tasty. Can understand the difficulty pronouncing Welsh names: I've been living there for over 4 years and still struggle. Look forward to seeing what you got up to in Scotland. Hopefully Eric's Scottish accent is a little better than his English one though, ha ha.
I knew I recognised the name Betws-Y-Coed, then as soon as I saw the car park I recognised it. I called in on the way back from a weekend break about 2/3 years ago :)
Only just found this channel and have gone back and watched a few other videos. I love seeing you explore all these places as it really shows just how lovely these places are. Next time you go traveling around England you should go to a place called Beaulieu in The New Forest and check out Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey and the National Motor Museum I think you would really enjoy it.
I always think welsh cakes taste like a scone that has been squished! If you are ever in Cardiff in Wales there is a shop called fabulous welsh cakes, it’s my favourite place for welsh cakes and they do tonnes of great flavours.
If you’re still in the UK and traveling around I recommend a town where I used to live called Bury St Edmunds down in Suffolk. Fantastic old market town, loads of history, some old ruins to walk around and it’s the home of the smallest pub in England! Suffolk is general is worth doing some research on, there’s some great little places down there to explore.
I”m from Kilsyth which is a few miles from Kirkintilloch. The Campsie Fells are nearby and the Forth and Clyde canal and Antonine Wall. You have to see the Kelpies in Falkirk. Its a must.
Drove through Betws-y-Coed before but never stopped, which everyone tells me is a mistake. Food looked good and loved the plastic bottle caps, very inventive. My grandkids would have loved that train ride, must admit at only £2 a head, I would have too. The Welsh cakes looked and sounded great, so well worth the trip. never had petrol pumped into my car for about 40 years, think you guys hit lucky. Great watch, cheers Alan
I can categorically say that the BEST welsh cakes are .... usually the ones you make yourself :D Though I have a soft nostalgic spot for my Mamgu's (Grandmother in South Wales) welsh cakes. She kept having to make loads though - as my brother and I kept pinching the hot ones off the griddle before she could sugar them sometimes. Happy days
Now I'm hungry. The food sounds delicious. The price of petrol sounds painful. The miniature railway looked like fun. What a delicious, fun-filled, expensive day!
Wooo Welsh cakes are the best! I recommend them freshly made from the Cardiff Market! I love that you went out of your way for Welsh cakes though! Your breakfast looked like a standard English breakfast, did look like a real good one though, not as greasy as some you get here :D I'm not a whisky drinker myself but don't think I'd ever put lime in it! Glad you're having fun in the UK!
Hey, glad you made it to our stunning North Wales, if you get a chance to come back head further West. I live and work all round north Wales and places like Harlech, Porthmadog, Criccieth, Pwllheli, and Abersoch are stunning towns with amazing views of the coast and great places to eat. Harlech castle has some gorgeous views of West Wales and to stay there are some great glamping pods near by in penrhyndeudraeth, if you head to Harlech you must go through blaenau-ffestiniog and take a little wounder round and down the Caverns or even Bounce below. If you need any more information just drop me a message I would be happy to help. Have fun adventuring...

It was the original name we couldn't pronounce "Cwmni Cacen Gri" 👍
You can't beat a freshly made hot Welsh cake with butter! Just like my Great Aunt Brenda (from the Gower) used to make!
Need to go to bedgelert in Snowdonia
It is Beddgelert
As a Welsh girl I love seeing tourists reactions yo our beautiful country and culture 💕 hope you enjoyed, please come back soon 😊

Just seeing you visiting Wales just makes me miss my country so much, been away in Australia for a whole year now 🙃
I used to stay in that caravan park at 3:53 with my parents when i was a kid. So nostalgic watching this video.
I love all y videos. And the Welsh cake. Very good quality of videos. 😘
Omg I'm in the background I like the the breakfasts there is lovely
Just found your channel, and just wanted to say your guys are pretty chill and down to earth. Love your channel.
Thank you for including us in your video, hope you enjoyed your visit to the Alpine Coffee Shop and Betws-y-Coed. Happy happy travellings.
I can't believe I live right next to Wales and I've never ever heard of Welsh Cakes!! Ahhhhh another place to add to the bucket list! xx
I stayed in Betws-y-Coed a few months ago, it's amazing.
shame you didn't go see the Swallow Falls at Betws y Coed. they're stunning.
Came here just to comment the same. I will never forget seeing them for the first time. If you every go back there, do see the falls.
Yes! They’re amazing.
Mustangtel conwy falls > swallow falls
Also the fairyglenn
You had bacon on your English breakfast not ham. It isn’t a proper welsh breakfast as that has cockles and laverbread (seaweed)
That a South Wales breakfast. Absolutely great (loved trying laverbread on a holiday to Cardiff) but not things you usually come across in North Wales. You overpaid for fuel, motorway prices are very high, you should always fuel up at a supermarket if you can.
stx trouble with supermarket fuel is it’s not the best quality which is why it’s cheap, but if you have a hire car I guess it doesn’t matter, lol

So glad you made it to Betws-y-Coed, i was there last year, beautiful place!
Pronouniation: Bet-oos uh c-oi-d
From your Welsh speaking fan! Keep up the great work 💕
Hannah Burns that’s a great way to help pronunciation . Da Iawn, ferch o cymru hefyd 👍👍

Aww you guys went to Alpine in Betws y Coed! One of my favourite places - only 20 minutes away from my house! Glad you enjoyed it 😃
Wow, this was in August? I guess you guys are a tad bit behind, lol!
That little train was really cute and funny :)
But no kittiecats in this one!
10 or 11 am is the best time for full English breakfast, you can skip lunch

Good to see you back in the UK 👍🏻
Great little village. Remember it from years ago when camping and climbing in Snowdonia. Good pub called The Stables too i remember
Luv abit of Welsh Rarebit, but Welsh cakes are lovely too.

Scotch and 1 rock , if that.
That's a scotch sour, lemon & lime is the same unless it's a key lime they are the only real limes, so it's a proper Scotch sour
It's High Commissioner... Its hardly a single malt 😉
It's blended. Put what you like in it.
Keep your additives away from my 18-year-old single malts, but abuse the blended stuff all you like.

"Welsh cakes" was my 1st video of yours.
Great vlogs guys, just catching up with you. Just to say a traditional Welsh breakfast should have laverbread and cockles on it.
Happy days
Sound's lovely. Beautiful memories.
Now I'm hungry. The food sounds delicious. The price of petrol sounds painful. The miniature railway looked like fun. What a delicious, fun-filled, expensive day!
On a cold day,it's got to be a hot toddy!
You should go to the Falkirk Wheel and Edinburgh Castle. Make sure that you try haggis with neeps and tatties in a restaurant or pub in Scotland too.
