A spectacular paragliding adventure in SNOWDONIA!

- I was invited to the first paragliding adventure race to be held in the SNOWDONIA region of North Wales. But I wasn't prepared for how difficult the course would be, and how dramatic the landscape is from above. Come and share a spectacular flying adventure with me: the X-Eryri 2021.
"being up here, in this place, this is why I fly
and in a race like this, the transformation is even more intense
from a miserable wretch, trudging on the surface,
to a spirit set free amongst the clouds
riding the wind"

Loved the poetic part..
Excellent. Great to see Snowdonia from the air. Next year.
So nice seeing people having a great time. Love your adventure videos.
From a reluctantly grounded PG pilot, thanks for sharing the experience so that I can enjoy again the feeling of soaring mountains and hitting cloud base. Poetic and epic video you legend
Wolność!! Super , ale widoki
Absolutely spectacular 😃 especially love the part where you're thinking of soaring the sea breeze up "one of those things" whilst pointing at Snowdon
Bravo! Absolutely brilliant both if you!
Just wonderful Greg, I had a Great adventure from my sofa tonight thanks buddy and have a great time keeping your spirits high…👋
I have loved your show of a constant positive attitude and enthusiasm. Thank you for all of your long hours put into sharing these videos.
Very nice, I can see our house is some bits 😍
Greg, great job. Your videos are like poetry. Well done and keep up the good work. Thanks for taking me on your adventures.
Ah, this is SO GOOD! The scenery, the storytelling, the insights. SO GOOD! Thank you for all your hard work on these videos - I hope you have fun making them! From a paramotor pilot in the US who hopes to have a chance to start practicing free flight soon :D!
Thanks Mark! Making a race documentary is more exhausting than actually doing the race, so I'm glad it's good to watch.
Agreed! Loved the whole video.
@@FlyWithGregyes thank you for all the hard effort. I can only imagine the extra logistics trying to film while trying to fly.
What an incredible video, so inspiring to watch Greg. Bravo!
Snowdonia looks like one of those places you could spend a lifetime exploring.
yeah it's pretty cool Matt, but it's small scale so you can always get back home at the end of the day. Perfect for weekend volbivs ... when the weather isn't going sideways
Great video!
Inspiring! These are extra needed when it rains and gets dark around this time of the year. Keep it coming! Cheers from Gothenburg. //AR
Gothenburg!
Göteborg!

I just donated 10 can to you. Thank you for the continuing awesome knowledge
Wow, Greg, this video is fascinating from every aspects, congrats!
Hilarious, educative, epic, stunning, inspiring, fun, beautifull, entertaining. Did i mention hilarious? Greaaaaaaat stuff Greg, thx!
Thanks Milco. Glad somebody got the slug race joke ;-) you gotta laugh about these events or you spend most of the day feeling miserable. but there's always LOTS to laugh about.
Great video. Something I will probably never do buy thanks for sharing it. Looks like everybody had an amazing time :-)
Yebo!
Whaou where is it ? It’s amazing
Coffee... real coffee. You cried out for help, we heard you, you got better. I'm well pleased.
So, I have a question: The pilots that won this event, did they have the advantage of being familiar with the area and experience flying there, or were they just lucky? I assume that everyone that competed were competent pilots. What made the difference in the outcome?
Are you the one whom jumped straight into the military low level fly zone in South Snowdonia?
no, but do you care to elaborate on exactly where that 'zone' is? it is not indicated on air charts, so it means military planes are flying in uncontrolled airspace. They should file a notam and have a duty to see and avoid other aircraft. When paragliders fly mid-week, we notify the military where we launch from, but when we fly XC we won't stay there.
@@FlyWithGreg The name off the zone is the Mach Loop. I'll have to check dates it was at some point in September.
Hello from France. Thank you for making this, love the energy and positivity you have, this is so inspiring. This is honestly better than any X alps documentaries out there thanks to your storytelling!. Bravo :)
Great video!
So pumped on seeing this adventure! I love the way you edit your footage, you put so much heart into your work! and I get to learn so much from watching your flying and takeoffs and landings.
Wow so inspiring! Thank you Greg.
I want to join your Academy
It's emotional watching this again two years later. I was so inspired the first time seeing it I competed this year. Having never been to North Wales before. Your video showed me the way. I had a blast pushing myself and meeting great people. I took the 'x alps' option and flew the lumps in that valley and was spat out of the devils kichen. Allowing me to fly onto Mount Snowdon. Amazing place to learn about flying mountains for first time. Looking forward to trying again.
Loved the technical analysis on FlyWithGreg and found it really really useful, but this brings the story to life in a way tracks just can't. I appreciate how much effort they are to produce, but these adventure style videos are just epic.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Smashing video! Keep it up and inspire a few more of us off our couches!
thanks Greg . You are an inspiration to the paragliding pilots around the world!
First time seeing you're channel and what a great video to start with! This is my stomping ground for hiking so really cool to see you treating peaks that take me 3 hours to climb like landing spots or launch spots! At one point you was walking along the miners or pyg track to Snowdon looking for somewhere to launch off, nuts haha! You're footage of flying through the Ogwen Valley after landing on Glyder Fawr then jumping off was awesome! Very jealous of you guys! All the best and I'll look forward to more of you're adventures!..
Day
Good stuff. I also like the commentary on decisions not taken. Like that valley. Helps to fight my own temptations when out flying.
I tried gliding for bout 4 months at point of mtn in utah, but work took me away. Now 25 yrs later and retired, best shape in my life, I'm inspired by what you guys do!! I will be a part of yall again, soon, but better!! Awesome group of guys!
Thx so much, INSPIRING!!!
Don’t wait. Do it. If you put in a 2 weeks of solid training in a place made for flying you will be in shape.
Mate loved the video i live in Shropshire and is there any chance you have recommendations for school around here i want to learn this and fly like you 👌🏼👌🏼also dance with the danger what a line ❤
I LOVE flying. And I love walking quite alot less.
-Greg Hamerton
🤣
wow.... turning and turning... scrating the mountain until reach the bomb.... great footage... congrats!!!
Airgasm😍
Hi Greg, what month was it you were there? Or what months would you recommend to visit Snowdonia? Would be nice to know!
Pure poetry, in every sense.
He is loosing it ....is it because of lower air pressure ? He is thinking he is a bird or an angel while flying......that could be very dangerous.
His speech and sentences are like he is in trance while flying......
Need to be more careful.
Beautiful Greg (and I mean the film and the flying)..!
7-8 min,- so beautifull. This is why I fly !
Great coverage Greg. Looked like a sweet place to fly and you had fun with that. Kudos!!
Epic. Am traning to paramotor. But now wanna paraglide after watching some of your videos. And get in that peaceful zone without a noisy engine on my back
It looks like wandering about event not a classic reach-the-goal from A to B hike&fly competition.
Great story telling though.
What a great sport. Love your videos and content Greg. Awesome. Slowly converting ;) all due to your education.
"I'm Tim and I'm not really sure what I'm doing" 😂 hahaha what a great dude
I enjoy every video you put my only request is that you maybe attempt to grow some luscious locks like you used to and maybe you’re like Samson, your power was in the length now the short hair only hinders you
Greg please, get a 4k camera! your videos are amazing, channel is great but my screen and those landscape demand 4k!
What a beautiful film! If it gets any better, I think I'd rather watch these than fly myself. Your enthusiasm, positivism, enjoyment are totally contageous! Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
Thanks Robert! It means a lot to me to connect with fellow pilots. It seems I'm not the only one to have these dreams ... to be reaching for something ethereal, just out of reach, above
As always amazing video!
Which cameras you use for the video?
Just great entertainment, thanks for the lovely race report. Happy landings!
Thank you for this video😁😁 so fun to watch
Perfect to watch, sometimes your comment is hard to distinguish from the music
Great Video Greg, thanks for including a shot of me flying above Tryfan. The whole thing was a blast.
Thanks Will. I wish I had stayed with you. Well flown!
Incredible video and adventure Greg! Suer good production quality!
Congrats for your SAFE and good flying
Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
That was super cool. I learned to fly this year and really admire anyone with the level of skill to participate in these events. I hope to be there at some point.
just keep looking for opportunities to improve your skills, and you'll be there soon!
Love your videos Greg. Great story telling of your wonderful adventures. Thanks for continuing to share.
Those views make it all worth it. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic shootage, very well cut. Great story. Thank you
Incredible, thanks Greg!
How good is it when you meet good and generous people on your adventures!!!
That was awesome Greg!! Stunning scenery!! I am sure you had a great time!! Cheers!
Hallo Greg ,
Thats is it , no more word to say...
beyond fantastic!
Why you are not allowed to have instant coffee anymore?
Its kind of like fast food. You think you want it ... and then wish you hadn't gone there :-)
Can anyone participate in this event or is it invite only?
You need a good level of xc piloting skill to do this safely but otherwise I expect all events in the UK series would be open to pilots who are crazy enough to do a mountain marathon with a big pack
@@FlyWithGreg Im crazy enough so maybe I’ll see you there next year.
@@FlyWithGreg Do you know of any Beginner XC races where one could build skills in a fairly forgiving environment?
Great vid and gregg waxing lyrical 😊
Awesome! But why do they all have such bad teeth lol
Wow, just wow. Thanks for sharing! I think I have only seen good videos from you, but this one is special! A magical place!
Thanks Bernhard! this event was cancelled four times before they actually ran it, and they scored big time with perfect flying weather.
Enjoyed this so much, thank you.
This is amazing. Your race documentaries are nothing short of amazing! You're an incredible pilot, storyteller and human being.
Your videos are my favourite thing on RUclips.
Aww thanks Davide you're very kind. I'm not much of an athlete but do enjoy trying to be sneaky and invent ways to compensate. Probably makes it more fun to watch :-)
Thanks for sharing Greg!! 🙂🙏🏼
Wonderful filming and story telling.
What a ride... No words.. Safe landings Greg
Nice and beautiful flying Sir
Greg, your videos are great. I stopped paragliding/ hangglider 30 years ago when people were only just starting to talk about "migrations". I stopped back then partly because of the drive for performance above all else. So I'm stoked to see the basic simplicity of minimum flying did not die! I'm a run swimmer right now, but will soon be adding "fly" into that combination 😊. Thanks so much for the inspiration! See you in the air maybe 👍
Epic. Can't wait to feel it again in three weeks, when my final course starts! I live 1km from the alps and after completing the course, it's gonna be the best summer ever!
Nice vid, as always! Thanks
Love the tactical 'land near the biggest barbecue ever seen' 😂😂😂 worked out well 👍 can't wait to get my licence and get out in the mountains. As much as I love flying wherever it is the mountains especially Snowdonia have a certain magic. Lots to learn, but we live in a time where information is more available than ever, thank you so much for the videos you put out, truly inspiring 👌
07:00 and Now we're cooking.
Hello from Bavaria and the Alps.
Planning on flying Snowdonia next year. It's such an outstanding landscape to enjoy in everybodies flyincareer I suppose.
Well done👍👍👍
I LOIKE IT BRO 👍👍👍👍👍
Does anyone know which model the Supair helmet is?
it's a discontinued School helmet, ultralight.
amazing man, I enjoy ang appreciate your content very much. made the decision to take lessons in january, so for now all I can do is exploring the possibilities through other peoples experience and certainly your passion and commitment is inspiring. Thanks and greetings from Costa Rica
Great adventure ! I flew paragliders from May 1988 until June 1994.
Great adventure story beautifully told 👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent video greg!
Oh man I love your films they are awsome and I don't even fly lol
but you will have to give it a try, now that you've seen it ... come and commit aviation!
One of the best things i ever did was a tandem off Babadag in Turkey, the one thing that stunned me was the immediate feeling of peace and freedom. If you have never experienced this please try and do it at least once its life changing. Amazing video, id love to do Snowdonia one day
Awsome video Greg. Enjoyed every second of it. It so nice to learn that I’m not the only dude who bomb out and struggle sometimes with the micro on evening launches. As a local pilot, it good to see and learn how you went about balancing your personal safety with flying Snowdonia. This was so interesting to me as I’m so overly cautious which can be rather annoying however I learnt quickly that flying Snowdonia is not all about being airborne all the time. The Hike and Fly can sometimes be much more enjoyable. As a local it sure nice to see that you had a fantastic time here. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Awesome video Greg. My neck of the woods. I’m in Colwyn Bay. Currently learning paragliding and hope to get up where you were one day.
Loved the video. the audio matches the scenery and action. Inspiring. A former private pilot, I find this sport very intriguing. Well done. Subscribed with a vengeance.
Wonderful!
Great video! I felt like I was right there with you. Thank you for all your videos Greg. Keep em comin!!
Well, that was inspiring. That was some gorgeous landscape and some excellent photography you accomplished while pushing yourself...great work !!!
What an amazing adventure! What a treat to watch! One of my favorite channels, thanks for taking the time to edit and put out such awesome content!!! Thumbs way up.
