Big thumbs up for a reasonably accurate hand-grenade explosion- no walls being blown down and huge balls of flame...
Also - Bren Gun - fabulous light machine gun. Arguably the best light machine gun of WW2

Wouldn't the mg42 be considered the best one or is that counted as a "general purpose machine gun" instead of an lmg?

@@abrahamgn3614 Good question. The trouble with the MG42 (imo anyway) is that, being belt-fed, you can't quickly and easily move it (unlike a magazine mg). tt also requires large amounts of ammunition. Apparently it also easily overheated. But yes, is it a gpmg as opposed to an lmg.? Dunno. What I do reckon with the Bren, it's easily portable (as we see here in the movie) and it gives local fire support easily. In an emergency it only needs one person to operate it. I'm not an experrtt of WW2 weapons so someone more knowledgeable may know better.

2:36 he fired far too soon on that bren when the gerries were chasing them, 2 secs he could had 5 of them.

He's trying to keep them pinned down so they can't fire back and the rest of the squad can escape.

one of my fav war films if only the French were not so defeatist and unprepared we could have held out much longer. I always wondered why he took so long getting down the stairs, he didn't have anything more to take than the others?

I don't think it was just the French that were unprepared.... As for defeatist you just need to look at the devestation done to France in WW1 (nearly 1/4 of the country occupied - containing much of the heavy industry) and the sheer loss of life. By the end of the war the French army had suffered around 6 million(!) casualties. Also the Brits retreated as much (or if not more) than the French.

You can buy it as a BFI release on bluray. £14. It won't be on Amazon Prime as it doesn't feature Russians and Germans fighting (said Russian movies seem to constitute about 50% of Prime movies....)
