One of my FAVOURITE ethnic cuisines, Jamaican food! Jamaicans are no joke in the kitchen as the two times I've been there, each trip I gained 11 or 12 pounds! Man if I marry a Jamaican woman, I'll be as big as a house!! LOVE IT down there, the nicest people ever are down in Jamaica and the food is to die for. Bravo Matt!
I am a Guyanese American and visited Jamaica 3 times. Never tasted stew peas but after seeing this vlog I will definitely be trying Stew Peas on my nest visit. Looks yummy.
@@dpatrick468 most times we put the thyme in the last set of seasoning to cook it down after the peas and pigtail is softer…but do it anyway you prefer it still taste delicious.

Yes, my Mom always cooks it with bigs tail and Oxtail... Always Few years she used smoked turkey leg ( don't judge lol) it was surprisingly delicious, especially cuz smoked turkey generally salt like the pigs tail ... Oh lord I love me some stew peas 😍😍😍🙌🙌
Stew peas looks very similar to a favourite Surinamese dish, brown beans and rice (bruine bonen). The pig's tails are standard, as well as chicken feet, pork ribs and salt beef. The only difference in the two dishes is that there is no coconut milk added to the brown beans and rice. Can also be served with toasted cassava flour (kwak). Great video!
Yes, for people who don't eat pork, we use salted beef in stew peas instead, and often it has multiple meats. So it sounds similar to your Surinamese dish...
