This is why I hated the series and its depiction of Maggie. In the comics, Maggie suffered from post-partum psychosis and was going to harm Matt when in a moment of clarity realized what she was doing and fled before she could harm her own baby. Maggie lived in the streets and didn't want to go back. She was found by the Church, taken in, cared for, and sent to a therapist until she was well enough to go back home. People don't understand the stigma that women with post-partum depression and psychosis went through in those days. Maggie's guilt prevented her from going home to Matt. Her fear of harming her son was just too much and so she joined the Church, hoping that she would seek penance for her failings. She became an activist and a force of good in the world--diverting all her efforts to help women in her situation and etc. In the end, Matt and Maggie did reconcile in the most beautiful way. When Maggie asked for forgiveness for "failing him", Matt said: "If failing meant that you became a force of good in this world, then we should all fail so spectacularly."

Matt deserves better. His father killed, Stick leaving him the way he did, losing Elektra, believing his mother to be dead most of his life until learning she has been alive all this time, barely 10 blocks away from him then a small part of his life as Sister Maggie.
yes she suffered through postpartum depression. She left to protect him and went to the church to better herself. That part I understand completely and good for her to get the help she needed.
But by the time Matt’s dad was killed, she should have came in to help her son when he truly needed his mother the most. That is the big reason I understand why Matt left without saying a word to her at this point of the show. Matt deserves better. Thanks for uploading.

I love the concept of Matt leaving the Church, a place of peace and comfort, to take residence in a boxing gym, whose function is to distill violence. Both homes embodied by both his father and mother. If Maggie and the church maybe representing Matts heart and generosity, he left that all behind to ruminate his life's misery through imagined conversation with his dead criminal father. He couldn't bring himself to try understand and forgive her and he gave himself in to all the anger and rage inside of him.

I absolutely have compassion for her post partum depression. Especially since it wasn't well understood back then.
But I'm also glad she told Karen that, later, when Matt went blind, when Jack died... She was a coward.
Because it's one thing, to not mentally be able to handle the post partum.
But by the time Matt lost his dad, she could've and should've stepped up.
And that's the part I blame her for. The part that I would find hard to forgive.

Just ealier i left my mothers house due to complicated vibes. I can relate to this very well. I blocked my mother and left home with the clothes on my back. I wonder if she cried like his mother. I wonder if she cried on my bed. I wonder. Anyone who has issues with their mother, dont abandon your mother. Because its the worst mistake you could ever do. Live free. Die young.
