Could always upgrade to a high output alternator that will put out more current and at lower engine rpm.

Absoluely! If one has a weak alternator and is rarely reaching 800 watts with this device, one can upgrade the car's alternator.
Without this device, upgrading the alternator won't do much because the power station can't take advantage of the higher dc input current.
