I am! I had my first period in school and when I had to change my pad a lot of girls was in the bathroom so I was scared to throw away my pad in from of people without them noticing. so I kept it in my pocket and waited to go home and throw it away
I did, my period started today at school and I had NO pads or feminine products. And changing pads at school is a problem. I don't have a locker, and my pockets are either too small, or there are no pockets. Many people look at me when I go to the bathroom at school, and many girls are at the bathroom. So, it's basically hell at school when it comes to periods.

Ashley Bowers wear less than 4 hours each and that'll never happen 😁 The women that's happened to either left it in too long or had some type of underlying issues going on. Just dont leave them in over that 4th hour that's all.. Millions of women use tampons with no problems whatsoever. I get extremely heavy flows due to my blood gene so I couldn't leave one in over 2-3 hours if I tried and otherwise just keep tabs on how many days I am and use pads to panty liners towards the end. Good to go.. 😁 You won't see me using no diva cups though-they weird me out. 🤣
I have been using it from last few months...the first time yes I made a mess but after 1 or 2 cycle you'll know how to do it correctly...and also it is your own blood...so if you clean yourself well it's gonna be perfect...I hope this helps

Men go through other problems during puberty. I have three brothers. A 15 year old, a 16 year old and a 20 year old. They've all dealt with puberty before. Unlike us girls, we can cover up our periods using pads or tampons. Men, on the other hand have erections. ( I won't get too far into it ) I'm not sure if it hurts them or not. But basically their ' thing ' goes up and is very visible for everyone to notice. I'm not sharing how they get rid of it. As that's their business, not ours. I'm aware it's uncomfortable for them when it happens. They sometimes don't even notice until someone points it out. They also have to deal with twice as many pimples are women do. Pimples can cause facial infections if they're not popped correctly.
if you have white underwear, use bleach. But if you have colored underwear, use mean green(a cleaning supply from most stores like the dollar store.. etc) It will literally save your life.

ugh me too ;_; my friends recommended me to wear tampons or those cups, because its much more comfortable. but i feel nasty sticking things up inside me, i stick to pads rather than tampons.
I suggest a hot bath when the cramps are too painful. It relaxes all the muscles, and that brings the pain away; also, you can pretend to be a horror movie actress, if you're not wearing a menstrual cup or tampon. True story.
*I am not affiliated with ANY companies, menstrual accessory or otherwise* I tried a few different cup brands, and sizes and they were all too big and painful. I perservered, tho, and found MeLuna. They have 3 different sizes (volume), 3 different lengths, 3 different firmnesses ( say you're super athletic, haven't had kids, and are really small in the southerly region, but have heavy periods? They got you. ) aand 3 different types of pulls ( ring/stick/ nub). They're medical grade silicone, and come in almost every colour...go for red or purple, you won't see the staining. They apparently ( can't remember exactly, but I have a friend who has been using her diva cup for 3 years now, soooo...) last for only a couple years, buuut, if you go to the website, you get a twofer deal, where you can get 2 different sizes ( heavy and light, for instance) for I think it was around $45CDN with shipping from the Netherlands to Canada. No cool folding-down-action, or rad plastic container, but both come in one cool soft drawstring bag. There are so many cool options out there. Another hack: to aid in insertion, so it doesn't get sore at the end, get some of those little, free, single use packets of lube that you can get from your local harm reduction/ planned parenthood/ whatever place. Carry a couple with you ( you should anyway, those things are lifesavers, make condoms so much safer, and everything way better!), and use a tiny drop on your cup after you wash and dry it, before you re-insert. It just makes everything so much easier. I keep one open, wrapped in tissue, stashed in my bathroom, then toss the leftover after that period, and if you're out and about, just toss the packet after. Or get a big bottle, if you're concerned about the environment, but I find for my period, I only use one tiny packet a month. I wouldn't use coconut oil, it might degrade the silicone? you'd have to look into that. One more thing, for first time cup users: it's smelly. Just, be warned. The smell will horrify you the first few heavy days. Also, For the first month or 2, wear a backup pantyliner on your heavy days just in case. I inserted mine incorrectly and had it dump on me. On the side of a busy street, at lunchtime. I had to stuff a wad of paper towel down my leggings and keep going like, "Huh, what! Yeah you saw me do that! Watch me strut it with a bulky crotchal region! Still look fierce tho!"

Don't know if you saw my comment above but was curious about if it's safe, comfortable to use if you are small, and a virgin? My 2 teen daughters THANKFULLY are still and although my 18 yr. Old wears tampons because she's VERY athletic and they work with not against her she still only needs size small the whole cycle so was curious if the cup would ve worth her trying. My 17 yr. Does pads because she finds tampons very uncomfortable but she leaks through specially at night so again didn't know if the cup would be more like the tampon or not.
AnnMarie Moreno It's safe to use no matter who you are, barring medical problems where your doc tells you specifically not to. I used pads until I was 19, even though I lost my virginity very early, because I'm really small down there. Then, because of that, I had to lube my tampon applicators. Really. Congrats to your daughters for being active, and having the self respect to wait until they're ready! Yay!! Maybe baby-step your younger daughter into using tampons, first by starting her with the same technique I used. Appeal to her sense of vanity, that's why I started using tampons. Can't wear pads with leggings or tight pants. You can get this stuff at the drugstore called taro gel, and its the same thing as lube but doesn't say "sexytime lube!!" all over it in bold, sparkly script. That's less embarrassing for both of you. Then there's the aforementioned packages for travel/school/ etc. I got mine from a harm reduction society called Aids Vancouver Island. Its kinda freaky for normal people to go there, as they also distribute needles and such. I can mail you some, if you want, I have a sickening horde. Lube packs, not needles. I'm sure you can buy them somewhere, but I just go there, get a bunch, then donate the money I would have used anyway to them, as I know its going to a way worthy cause and being stretched really far. Anyway. *climbs off soapbox* back to the subject at hand. You might want to wait until your younger daughter is comfortable with tampons and insertion in general, before getting her a cup, because pads to cups as a virgin at 17 can be an out of the pan, into the fire situation. Depends on her maturity level (that's not a dig! It's not bad to be young at heart, or to act your age and younger, at all!), her comfort with her body, also her commitment to the environment can be a factor, etc etc. As an aside, before I finally switched for good, I used to wash off my applicators and recycle them. I keep a recycling container in my bathroom for packaging, empty toilet paper rolls, and old applicators. I commented about it in a Reddit thread and got Fuh-laaamed! people freaked! they were so horrified! That's what brought up the whole menstrual cup convo, and that's when I decided to try out another, smaller brand. I did a ton of research, and found MeLuna. Ill tag the website where I bought mine onto the end if I can find it, after. Some more graphic, but useful, info I found: The tighter you are ( really muscular/ virgin/athlete/no kids/ one finger is enough) go for the firmer cups. anything too floopy will collapse and dump. Once you're committed, it is nice to get 2, in different volumes. It'll save wear and tear, making them both last longer, and it's also nice to have an alternate just in case. Honestly, I've only used the smaller volume one a few times, but it's good to have in case I drop the primary in the toilet while out and about ( a major fear of mine. If this happens, you just boil it, but you're s.o.l. until you can get to a kettle.) Also, I've never completely filled the big one, so a person could use the smaller volume one exclusively if the bigger one was uncomfortable. The size difference doesn't look like that much, but one sense is different than the other. To start, you could get one duo pack, give one to each daughter, then if they both like it, get another duo pack and give each the other cup. voila. And, maybe my family is weird, but when I bought 2 diva cups they both were way too big. I gave them to my eldest sister. I had tried one once, re-boiled it, put it back in the packaging. I offered them to her, and she was super stoked. She just re-re-boiled it, and has been using them ever since. But, I've also given her an "intimate massager" that I had used once ( she was also excited and happy) and took her daughter shopping for her first "toy" at 18. I don't know, maybe we're weird? What I'm getting at with this abundance of oversharing, is maybe if one daughter tries it once but can't stand it, the other daughter won't be horrified to sterilize it and use it. Remember: hospitals do similar things in surgery all the time. If we threw out everything that someone used once, the world would or hopelessly piled with trash, more so than it is now. Something to ponder, anyway. There's lots of choice in colour, may I suggest going with a dark colour, as they will stain. The pretty, baby pink or opaque white cup will soon be brown. And the smell is often gnarly. But our bodies do gnarly things, man. But also super cool things, too. Ok, I'm going on forever here. Hope this helped even a little. Pro tip: if you're experiencing a little leaking on a heavy day with a cup, instead of wearing a pantyliner, ( going commando?) take a clean, new makeup sponge ( just a cheap one, you don't need a fancy beauty blender. If you use a natural sponge, you have to boil it first) and put it inside, just behind your cup as a backup. You'll be able to retrieve it no problem, it won't go anywhere, cause your cup will block it. Pull it out, wrap it, and throw in the trash. (don't flush. it'll never go down, and is terrible for the environment and sewer systems). And, if you have your monthly gift and you want to "be intimate" do the sponge minus the cup. If it's a heavier day, use 2 together to make a square. The best, I find, is to cut a strip off a large natural sponge, boil it, then wrap it around a regular makeup sponge. It is way easier to retrieve after, because of the texture of the natural sponge. Afterwards, you just sit on the toilet or crouch in the bathtub and retrieve it with your fingers. Don't panic if it doesn't come out right away, just give it a little time and try again. Alternately flex and relax. It becomes easier the more you do it. Many times your partner won't know unless you tell them, because the sponge feels a lot like the tissue inside your vagina. This is what escorts do when they have their periods but still have to work. So it really is a pro tip. This more racy stuff for any other ppl who have read this far, not advice for your young daughters, obv. I couldn't help but segway from the leak sponge to the sexy-time sponge. Potato Gacha if your period is coming and you know about it but you don’t have any pads, put a couple of toilet paper (when I mean a couple I mean like 6-10 rolls) make sure they are bungled up together so it’s more secure. I do this a lot when I am in school and I don’t want to change my pad.
hey !, so I've been using the lily cup (non-compact) for almost 2 years now, and have never experienced any kind of adverse or additional pain while using it. Of course, pain tolerance as well as your average everyday cramping may be a factor in that. I think that your experience with tampons will also play a role in how you first adjust to it; namely if you aren't used to inserting period products. Personally I was already used to using tampons and I didn't find the cup to be all that different. Also, if you naturally have a low cervix ,like me , then you can cut away part of the bottom tab in order for it to fit more comfortably, and still be able to remove it with ease. sorry for the long comment, hope that's helpful :)
There are also lots of different types of cups to accommodate different periods; for example, one of the bigger cups is the Super Jennie, which holds a considerable amount more than the Lily Cup and the Lily Cup Compact. Also, the non-compact Lily Cup holds slightly more than the compact version. I use a DivaCup and, before going on birth control to help make my periods more manageable (mine used to be debilitating), I just had to empty it more often than every 12 hours. putacupinit.com/chart/ lists a lot of different cups and their sizes -- it's pretty handy.

Just because she is showing a certain one doesn't mean that other menstrual cups can't also be used for years and can pick up blood for up to 12 hours a day ... also, you can move in them and exercise and you won't create a crapton of waste or be hard on your wallet in the long run.

Okay period story So usually my periods are late ,so 40-50 days apart, and in the middle of (this was day 29) and i was extremelly hungry and was lunch, so i reckoned it was hunger cramps, after i ate my food i had the WORSE possible cramps ever. And i was like to my friend "did u get ur period recently?" And she was like "yeah why?" She goddamn knows that we have a pact that if one of us has our period then the other MUST KNOW. (Side note: for some reason my period and her period starts at the same time) so i asked her to go the the bathroom with me and she DARES to say no. So i was like 'okay so i should go to the bathroom after school and check, most likely not right?' BIG MISTAKE. After school, i checked and OMFG it was a massacre. I had nothing to ease the pain, and i was so dizzy, (i have to walk 30-40mins home) i had to call my mum to pick me up from school. So yeah that the story of how i nearly died. (Edit: i went to a school which made us wear uniform, and in so lucky cuz the trousers are black)
Sadly the cup thing will never help me. My periods are severely heavy, and they make me use more than four to five tampons a day. Not the thin ones, the heavy duty ones. I've gone to the doctor for it before and they had recommended some kind of birth control that could help me not have periods,,? Something like that, but sadly I also always get them in my sleep so I have to deal with cleaning the stains from my pants and my sheets. They're extremely irregular, and I've been told this is a possible sign of infertility as well but I can't find that out for sure unless I go to the doctor again.
Lauren Xo' I'm so sorry. My tips: ALWAYS have extra products on you. Check up down there once an hour to make sure you don't leak and get to know your body for the future. Do what makes you comfortable. I love wearing black athletic leggings. They go with everything and cover up + help absorb leaks. For cramps, I miss midol, but be sure to eat before taking it or you'll get a stomachache. Hope this helped!❤️
I wash my underwater. If you’d like to know how, continue reading: 1. Put your underwear in the sink (make sure the sink is clean before you start) and turn on the cold water. Once that’s done you will begin to see some blood disappear to a lighter color than before. 2. Squirt hand soap on the stain or use baking powder. 3. Begin scrubbing the underwear until the blood is completely off. Another way to get rid of blood stains is to use a scrubber but make sure that it’s not already been used from another time. If you still see some blood still on there just add 1-2 more squirts of hand soap or baking powder. After you are completely done and see no more blood stains, you can hang up the underwear or if you think that it’s not clean enough. Throw it in the washer. Anyways if you do try this, great. If it doesn’t work, just throw it in the wash and see what happens or throw it away if you still can’t get the stain out. Anyways, cheers!🥂

Just dont leave them in over that 4th hour that's all.. Millions of women use tampons with no problems whatsoever. They've all dealt with puberty before.
Unlike us girls, we can cover up our periods using pads or tampons.

I tried a few different cup brands, and sizes and they were all too big and painful. I perservered, tho, and found MeLuna. They have 3 different sizes (volume), 3 different lengths, 3 different firmnesses ( say you're super athletic, haven't had kids, and are really small in the southerly region, but have heavy periods? They got you. ) aand 3 different types of pulls ( ring/stick/ nub). They're medical grade silicone, and come in almost every colour...go for red or purple, you won't see the staining. They apparently ( can't remember exactly, but I have a friend who has been using her diva cup for 3 years now, soooo...) last for only a couple years, buuut, if you go to the website, you get a twofer deal, where you can get 2 different sizes ( heavy and light, for instance) for I think it was around $45CDN with shipping from the Netherlands to Canada. No cool folding-down-action, or rad plastic container, but both come in one cool soft drawstring bag.
There are so many cool options out there. Another hack: to aid in insertion, so it doesn't get sore at the end, get some of those little, free, single use packets of lube that you can get from your local harm reduction/ planned parenthood/ whatever place. Carry a couple with you ( you should anyway, those things are lifesavers, make condoms so much safer, and everything way better!), and use a tiny drop on your cup after you wash and dry it, before you re-insert. It just makes everything so much easier. I keep one open, wrapped in tissue, stashed in my bathroom, then toss the leftover after that period, and if you're out and about, just toss the packet after. Or get a big bottle, if you're concerned about the environment, but I find for my period, I only use one tiny packet a month. I wouldn't use coconut oil, it might degrade the silicone? you'd have to look into that.
One more thing, for first time cup users: it's smelly. Just, be warned. The smell will horrify you the first few heavy days. Also, For the first month or 2, wear a backup pantyliner on your heavy days just in case. I inserted mine incorrectly and had it dump on me. On the side of a busy street, at lunchtime. I had to stuff a wad of paper towel down my leggings and keep going like, "Huh, what! Yeah you saw me do that! Watch me strut it with a bulky crotchal region! Still look fierce tho!"

Don't know if you saw my comment above but was curious about if it's safe, comfortable to use if you are small, and a virgin? My 2 teen daughters THANKFULLY are still and although my 18 yr. Old wears tampons because she's VERY athletic and they work with not against her she still only needs size small the whole cycle so was curious if the cup would ve worth her trying. My 17 yr. Does pads because she finds tampons very uncomfortable but she leaks through specially at night so again didn't know if the cup would be more like the tampon or not.
AnnMarie Moreno It's safe to use no matter who you are, barring medical problems where your doc tells you specifically not to. I used pads until I was 19, even though I lost my virginity very early, because I'm really small down there. Then, because of that, I had to lube my tampon applicators. Really. Congrats to your daughters for being active, and having the self respect to wait until they're ready! Yay!! Maybe baby-step your younger daughter into using tampons, first by starting her with the same technique I used. Appeal to her sense of vanity, that's why I started using tampons. Can't wear pads with leggings or tight pants. You can get this stuff at the drugstore called taro gel, and its the same thing as lube but doesn't say "sexytime lube!!" all over it in bold, sparkly script. That's less embarrassing for both of you. Then there's the aforementioned packages for travel/school/ etc. I got mine from a harm reduction society called Aids Vancouver Island. Its kinda freaky for normal people to go there, as they also distribute needles and such. I can mail you some, if you want, I have a sickening horde. Lube packs, not needles. I'm sure you can buy them somewhere, but I just go there, get a bunch, then donate the money I would have used anyway to them, as I know its going to a way worthy cause and being stretched really far.
Anyway. *climbs off soapbox* back to the subject at hand. You might want to wait until your younger daughter is comfortable with tampons and insertion in general, before getting her a cup, because pads to cups as a virgin at 17 can be an out of the pan, into the fire situation. Depends on her maturity level (that's not a dig! It's not bad to be young at heart, or to act your age and younger, at all!), her comfort with her body, also her commitment to the environment can be a factor, etc etc. As an aside, before I finally switched for good, I used to wash off my applicators and recycle them. I keep a recycling container in my bathroom for packaging, empty toilet paper rolls, and old applicators. I commented about it in a Reddit thread and got Fuh-laaamed! people freaked! they were so horrified! That's what brought up the whole menstrual cup convo, and that's when I decided to try out another, smaller brand. I did a ton of research, and found MeLuna. Ill tag the website where I bought mine onto the end if I can find it, after.
Some more graphic, but useful, info I found:
The tighter you are ( really muscular/ virgin/athlete/no kids/ one finger is enough) go for the firmer cups. anything too floopy will collapse and dump.
Once you're committed, it is nice to get 2, in different volumes. It'll save wear and tear, making them both last longer, and it's also nice to have an alternate just in case. Honestly, I've only used the smaller volume one a few times, but it's good to have in case I drop the primary in the toilet while out and about ( a major fear of mine. If this happens, you just boil it, but you're s.o.l. until you can get to a kettle.) Also, I've never completely filled the big one, so a person could use the smaller volume one exclusively if the bigger one was uncomfortable. The size difference doesn't look like that much, but one sense is different than the other. To start, you could get one duo pack, give one to each daughter, then if they both like it, get another duo pack and give each the other cup. voila.
And, maybe my family is weird, but when I bought 2 diva cups they both were way too big. I gave them to my eldest sister. I had tried one once, re-boiled it, put it back in the packaging. I offered them to her, and she was super stoked. She just re-re-boiled it, and has been using them ever since. But, I've also given her an "intimate massager" that I had used once ( she was also excited and happy) and took her daughter shopping for her first "toy" at 18. I don't know, maybe we're weird? What I'm getting at with this abundance of oversharing, is maybe if one daughter tries it once but can't stand it, the other daughter won't be horrified to sterilize it and use it. Remember: hospitals do similar things in surgery all the time. If we threw out everything that someone used once, the world would or hopelessly piled with trash, more so than it is now. Something to ponder, anyway.
There's lots of choice in colour, may I suggest going with a dark colour, as they will stain. The pretty, baby pink or opaque white cup will soon be brown. And the smell is often gnarly. But our bodies do gnarly things, man. But also super cool things, too. Ok, I'm going on forever here. Hope this helped even a little. Good luck with your daughters, your life, their lives, I hope everything goes swimmingly. Maybe you'll consider switching, yourself. If you haven't been liberated from the joys of Aunt Flo already. I could have gotten sport even, and I dumped it a few times in the beginning because of inexperience and super strong keigels. But yeah, I'm super happy with them.
Pro tip: if you're experiencing a little leaking on a heavy day with a cup, instead of wearing a pantyliner, ( going commando?) take a clean, new makeup sponge ( just a cheap one, you don't need a fancy beauty blender. If you use a natural sponge, you have to boil it first) and put it inside, just behind your cup as a backup. You'll be able to retrieve it no problem, it won't go anywhere, cause your cup will block it. Pull it out, wrap it, and throw in the trash. (don't flush. it'll never go down, and is terrible for the environment and sewer systems). And, if you have your monthly gift and you want to "be intimate" do the sponge minus the cup. If it's a heavier day, use 2 together to make a square. The best, I find, is to cut a strip off a large natural sponge, boil it, then wrap it around a regular makeup sponge. It is way easier to retrieve after, because of the texture of the natural sponge. Afterwards, you just sit on the toilet or crouch in the bathtub and retrieve it with your fingers. Don't panic if it doesn't come out right away, just give it a little time and try again. Alternately flex and relax. It becomes easier the more you do it. Many times your partner won't know unless you tell them, because the sponge feels a lot like the tissue inside your vagina. This is what escorts do when they have their periods but still have to work. So it really is a pro tip.

hey !, so I've been using the lily cup (non-compact) for almost 2 years now, and have never experienced any kind of adverse or additional pain while using it. Of course, pain tolerance as well as your average everyday cramping may be a factor in that. I think that your experience with tampons will also play a role in how you first adjust to it; namely if you aren't used to inserting period products. Personally I was already used to using tampons and I didn't find the cup to be all that different. Also, if you naturally have a low cervix ,like me , then you can cut away part of the bottom tab in order for it to fit more comfortably, and still be able to remove it with ease.

There are also lots of different types of cups to accommodate different periods; for example, one of the bigger cups is the Super Jennie, which holds a considerable amount more than the Lily Cup and the Lily Cup Compact. Also, the non-compact Lily Cup holds slightly more than the compact version.
I use a DivaCup and, before going on birth control to help make my periods more manageable (mine used to be debilitating), I just had to empty it more often than every 12 hours. putacupinit.com/chart/ lists a lot of different cups and their sizes -- it's pretty handy.

Just because she is showing a certain one doesn't mean that other menstrual cups can't also be used for years and can pick up blood for up to 12 hours a day ... also, you can move in them and exercise and you won't create a crapton of waste or be hard on your wallet in the long run.

Okay period story
So usually my periods are late ,so 40-50 days apart, and in the middle of (this was day 29) and i was extremelly hungry and was lunch, so i reckoned it was hunger cramps, after i ate my food i had the WORSE possible cramps ever. And i was like to my friend "did u get ur period recently?" And she was like "yeah why?" She goddamn knows that we have a pact that if one of us has our period then the other MUST KNOW. (Side note: for some reason my period and her period starts at the same time) so i asked her to go the the bathroom with me and she DARES to say no. So i was like 'okay so i should go to the bathroom after school and check, most likely not right?' BIG MISTAKE. After school, i checked and OMFG it was a massacre. I had nothing to ease the pain, and i was so dizzy, (i have to walk 30-40mins home) i had to call my mum to pick me up from school. So yeah that the story of how i nearly died. (Edit: i went to a school which made us wear uniform, and in so lucky cuz the trousers are black)
I only get terrible back pain! No cramps, bloating or whatever!

My periods are severely heavy, and they make me use more than four to five tampons a day. Not the thin ones, the heavy duty ones.
I've gone to the doctor for it before and they had recommended some kind of birth control that could help me not have periods,,? Something like that, but sadly I also always get them in my sleep so I have to deal with cleaning the stains from my pants and my sheets. They're extremely irregular, and I've been told this is a possible sign of infertility as well but I can't find that out for sure unless I go to the doctor again.

Check up down there once an hour to make sure you don't leak and get to know your body for the future.
Do what makes you comfortable.
I love wearing black athletic leggings. They go with everything and cover up + help absorb leaks.
For cramps, I miss midol, but be sure to eat before taking it or you'll get a stomachache.

I wash my underwater. If you’d like to know how, continue reading:
1. Put your underwear in the sink (make sure the sink is clean before you start) and turn on the cold water. Once that’s done you will begin to see some blood disappear to a lighter color than before.
2. Squirt hand soap on the stain or use baking powder.
3. Begin scrubbing the underwear until the blood is completely off. Another way to get rid of blood stains is to use a scrubber but make sure that it’s not already been used from another time.
If you still see some blood still on there just add 1-2 more squirts of hand soap or baking powder. After you are completely done and see no more blood stains, you can hang up the underwear or if you think that it’s not clean enough. Throw it in the washer.
Anyways if you do try this, great. If it doesn’t work, just throw it in the wash and see what happens or throw it away if you still can’t get the stain out. Anyways, cheers!🥂
