    Seeking perfection will always lead you towards procrastination. This man just killed me. I got a whole new concept, thank you.
    But I did that restaurant thing with a menu card.

      The restaurant thing I guess everyone does it. Is like the tetris effect, after playing tetris for long hours you start seeing things like tetris and shapes in the real world. Is just that in design you train your mind to think in a certain way and sometimes is difficult to transition to non-work-related talks. Is nothing different than when someone is always talking about work

    I love the point about "Don't decorate crap..." I really agree because a lot of time companies hire designers and blame the designer if the promotion or design isn't effective. But it really could be that the communication sucks and doesn't resonate with their target audience. Thanks for the great interview, Chris and James 😉

    This really makes me feel like continuing to design my own font. Because a lot of what's said goes against how careful I've been during the process.

    These aren't even rules of type anymore... These are rules of LIFE!!!
    Another reason why the Futur and all its subsidiaries will remain immeasurably valuable to me for eternity.
    Thank you for this ✊I don't even understand why there aren't as many views, what on earth are people watching instead?! 😂

    I like to learn rules and to try to perceive how it's used in every design that i see, but when somebody does something withouth thinking about those rules it has a beauty of itself, just like kids drawings, there's definely a magic to be explored with the no rule mindset. Loved the video

  • @Imaginedancers

    Yesss! “Allow” that is definitely the word! We are all creatives but do we allow ourselves to be creative and be open to our ideas we think of? Love this!

  • @tanyagupta8204
    @tanyagupta8204 4 года назад +5

    Wow
    This makes me think of the notion that designs are always characterised to a certain type. But to break those categories to form your own can maybe someday become a standard of design that the world follows. You never know. Believe in your design and believe in the power of communicating.
    Because "All that glitters is not gold"
    Get your chance to be unique because
    If Salvador Dali did what Picasso did he wouldn't be Salvador Dali or vice versa.

      The Futur Academy Well, I really liked the process of those designers, It really changed my prepective on design. The most amazing part of those videos were that eash designer went through the software and showed how they build their art, I think thats the most helpful part for students like us. Those videos made me really productive and came up with new ideas, if you wanna see the results of those videos you can checkout my Instagram @safeerrahmed.

    That whole perfectionism thing got me. I know I spend too much time on things no one cares about, but I think it's a process of learning the rules in order to break them in a sense... Of course, you can't be perfect about your initial ideas and the process but once you decide on the final deliverable, then those perfect details are part of your professionalism is how I see it?!?!? Honestly, I don't know, I'm still trying to find the balance of not giving a damn about details that most people won't notice (or bother to care about) and having a standard for myself and appreciation for these details

    I don’t think the problem is perfectionism per se, but the bad habits that some hide behind that concept:
    1. It’s not “perfectionism”, it’s insecurity
    2. It’s not “perfectionism”, it’s pedantry
    3. It’s not “perfectionism”, it’s the fear to try and create new rules
    4. It’s not “perfectionism”, it’s conformity with things as they are

    • @biocykle

      That's what "perfectionism" means though :)

    • @Mithferion
      @Mithferion 4 года назад

      WisaK No, perfectionism is searching always for the best possible outcome. It’s bad only if you don’t balance it with the circumstances around it, that’s why “done is better than perfect” if the situation doesn’t allow for a better result

    So if you follow the Do way.... graphic design is not our problem uniquely. Well.... 10 years later.... yet none of my accounts have more than a couple hundred followers. I might have 105 on my youtube channel that is at least 7 years old. I have a real issue with learning the rules then break them. Neither one has worked for me.

    • @TheFuturAcademy

      What is the biggest challenge for you? Time spent is less important than how much you've learned, iterated, and grown with each step.

    Where is the line between a crap or poor design and something that is imperfect?

  • @reemash1770
    @reemash1770 4 года назад +2

    I don't know why but it really hurts me to see the poster Islam and the bomb, as a Muslim how is trying to learn graphic design from this Chanel i feel like I'm not even welcomed, a graphic designers job is to create visual ideas, and seeing my religion drawn like a nuclear bomb saying Osama bin Laden on the New York times article that talk about nuclear Iran is just annoying, like the only reason Islam exist is to attack a country that didn't exist when it was founded 🙄 I don't know if that what he meant or not, it's what I first thought of
    .
    Really disappointing ☹️
    That I'm here to learn graphic design by a guy that teaches amircans that I'm there foe not an another human being 😞
    Yeah let's show how much graphic design is just another propaganda tool.
    I'm just frustrated with all of this

    • @TheFuturAcademy
      @TheFuturAcademy  4 года назад +1

      I can see why you might be frustrated. James is a person with a very strong opinion about many things. Design is a tool for communication. He uses it to express his thoughts and feelings. We don't agree with everything every guest has to say, but we do are best to celebrate different perspectives and works.

    I'm sorry. There's no doubt that he is a genius artist. BUT he already got his name. So he can do whatever the feck he likes. But artists, in general, should still comply with the standards of the market. I think not everyone has the same privilege to be as carefree as he is - most especially those who are just still earning and working for their names. And honestly, perfection as a concept is arbitrary.

    • @althealiwanag8982

      How did he get his name then? If he did follow the herd, I bet he wouldn't be as great as he is today. ☺️

    Is this the same guy who just said at the end of they s video... "it isn't out there, it's not that skill share class..."? Then why is this guy peddling his own skill share classes on his Twitter account? "The early-bird pricing for my new online, LIVE class, The Creative Warrior, ends at midnight tonight. Find details here". - Sorry, I'm confused my the "Do as I say, Not as I do" preacher guy.

  • @badarulislam7256
    @badarulislam7256 4 года назад

    I don't like his style. Not a person who can be my mentor. Very unprofessional. I don't care what others say. But there were 2, 3 things which i agree with him. His typography is bad no matter how he justifies himself. He thinks he is a smart guy and others that work hard to make their designs look good are idiots.
