Cowboy Dean: My Rifle, My Pony and Me. Surprisingly Dean Martin played a pretty good cowboy in western movies of the late fifties and sixties. Rio Bravo, The Sons Of Katie Elder, and Five Card Stud. He even made a western with Frank Sinatra.
Great variety shows: Dean’s, Ed Sulivan, Red Skelton, Jack Benny, Milton Berle, Carol Burnett, Sonny & Cher, Smothers Bros, Tony Orlando & Dawn. So many more comedy & music performances per wk we don’t see now. Culture changes.
Remember when he was doing "Your Nobody Till Somebody Loves You."? In the middle of the song there was a lot of noise on the set. And Dean just rolled with it while singing "Somebody, just fell down."
After Dean called him the King of Rock n’ Roll. Dean’s daughter tells the story that Elvis said “I might be the King of Rock n Roll but your Dad is the King of Cool”. Dude !!!
Dean Martin's movies and songs will live on forever ! I loved all his movies and his songs ever since I was five years old. That was sixty years ago ! My mom would be in the kitchen making spaghetti sauce for dinner. And I would be in the living room singing along to all the songs on my Dad's, one and only, Dean Martin album when I came home from kindergarten.
@timcarr6401 I was born in 1959. Back then my Dad and a friend of his had a home improvement company. I think I was 5 when Andy Williams and Dean Martin were on tv. I loved their shows only for their songs. Anything else went over my head. The music back then was great. There was so many different types of music on the radio back then. I loved all types of music, but singers like Dean, Andy, Tony Bennett, and all the others appealed to me the most. But getting back to music in general, I enjoyed all types of music. The 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s were the best.
You've listened to Dean 3-4 times but surprisingly have missed his biggest hit and theme song, Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime. It was a huge 1964 hit in the midst of Beatlemania. To really know him, you have to see a few minutes of him talking to the audience on his popular weekly show. And guys, don't forget he was half of the most popular comedy team from the late 40's to 1956, and then was a member of the popular Rat Pack.
I was only a little kid when Dean Martin knocked The Beatles out of the number 1 spot ! Like I said, I was only a little kid when I watched the old movies that Dean made movies with Jerry Lewis. Dean also made some great movies while his show was in reruns. He was a great singer, a great actor, and could make people laugh when he was on stage...and especially on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
This was one of two times Dean Martin performed this song on his NBC Variety Show from the mid 1960’s. I rediscovered Dean Martin through not just the movies he made with Jerry Lewis in the 50’s, the Rat Pack in the 60’s, and in the early 80’s with The Cannonball Run (1981); but with his NBC Variety Show and his Celebrity Roasts that were rereleased to DVD in the mid 2000’s.
I think Jay is right, it was Mr Rogers' Neighborhood that was an amazing children's show for twenty years. You ought to introduce your kids to Mr Rogers; he is amazing.
His show is timeless. I bought a dvd of Mister Rogers for my son at age 12 so he could see what I grew up watching as a young girl and he LOVED him. Especially the one where he went to see how crayons were made. I still love him and thankful for all he taught me way back in the 70's.
This Is A Clip From His Variety Show!! Always watched them , mom had a crush on him!! You’re really missing out by not looking up clips of him performing on his show and his talking after the song!! He’s a character!!

I know he was friends with Frank. But I never cared for Frank. His personality turned me off. Dean's voice is a whole lot better, and he had a super personality.
This is actually a live version of the recorded version of this song. He did it live on his show in the '60's. No autotune and you can see he wasn't even really taking it that seriously! Dean Martin is for me, head and shoulders above Sinatra.
Mr. Rogers? That one went over my head. lol Dean's ability to put a smile in every note he sings is amazing to me. Have y'all reacted to the western movie Rio Bravo with both Dean and Ricky Nelson?
Amber & Jay - been watching for a long time, first time commenting. This song was written by Baker Knight - I was fortunate enough to interview & then correspond with him for a few years back in the late '90s/early 2000's. He also wrote "Lonesome Town" for Ricky Nelson & "The Wonder of You" which was a big hit for Elvis. I'm sure he would've enjoyed your channel & been amazed that his songs are reaching another generation.
Hi Guys greetings from England 🇬🇧 Deano was so relaxed and so smooth!!! You really do have to check out The Rat Pack performing live singing the song " Birth of The Blues" seeing the Rat Pack live and how much Frank, Dean and Sammy just had so much fun hanging out together.

Dean Martin had done many TV shows, movies, as well as his music career. He was a big deal, yet very down-to-earth. Dean also made certain to go home every night after work at a respectable hour to be with his loving wife and children, unless business kept him away.
