CCT are quite specialized. They are Scarlet Berets. Can shoot, ruck, etc on top of being able to control all air assets. Will be team member of SF ODA, SQUID team, Unit, etc. Catch grief about being Air Force but every member will admit they’re the baddest dude on earth with C-130 gunship overhead and CCT telling them who to smoke.
How about CCT vs ST TACP explained? When is a 24th ST TACP used over a 24th CCT, for example?
Easier way to think about it:
JTAC = qual that is not service specific
CCT = unit in the USAF
JTAC is merely a qualification. Marine pilots are mostly JTACs. An AH-1 pilot can call in a bomb from a B-52 (we could go into more detail about who can actually call in CAS and what the different control measures are…but that’s even more in the weeds). JTACs for the Army almost always come from the USAF and are at the Brigade level and get pushed down to lower units when they are the main effort. At the Platoon you’ll never or almost never see them. The exception is Ranger Regiment, which has Rangers that are JTACs (mostly 19D by MOS). Marine infantry units use Marine pilots. There are JTACs for DEVGRU that come from the USMC.
CCT is a unit in the USAF. The T is for “Team”. Individuals from CCTs may get loaned out to act as JTACs but that unit has a particular mission, which is setting up airfields behind or on enemy lines.

Yeah, I had some fucked up situation and being left as a Canadian because we have our teams and we also have solo missions which are more to the American Delta force rangers where you must do the whole mission by yourself
The first deal and it was stupid. There’s a little mountain in Montreal and I had to get up one side and down the other within. It was pretty much impossible to do with what’s called Mount Royal warehouse ever you want to pronounce it in French or English… And I give a rats ass, but it still takes you over five hours to get across there and I would do it because well I don’t want to see was cheating, but I heard word that you had to go up and over and back across within🎉
Unless it changed recently, 19D is not a MOS in the Ranger Regiment.
It’s a super small difference, but pilots(or backseaters) won’t get a JTAC qual, they get FAC-A(forward air controller) and FAC quals. FAC-A’s are pilots controlling from the air and FACs are aviators who control from the ground. Like I said, it’s a small difference; but as a military aviator, I thought it could be helpful.

He only said part of the difference between a JTAC and CCT. There are JTACs in SOCOM. You Air Force SOF JTAC, MARSOC Raiders SOF JTAC and then you have Operators that are JTACs as well in SEALs, SF, Raiders, Recon, Rangers
Also JTAC is not Joint Terminal Air Controller
It’s Joint Terminal Attack Controller
Military flyers will call JTACs joint terminal air controllers because JTACs aren’t always just controlling attacks. They own all the aircraft in their airspace for deconfliction, so we’ll call em air controllers sometimes 🤙🏼
