      My tools range from Harbor Freight to Snap-on for my DIY and automotive repair side work. I recently dropped a channel where all the Feller did was talk about tools. I dropped other channels over the years for basically the same reason. I never saw anything posted on his channel about automotive repair or anything indicating such in the “about” section of the channel. The Feller never did any tool reviews or tool testing. But he would be quick to run down a big box store and always talking about buying the tool truck tools or pert near any other tool brand. One favorite saying was “use your money wisely”. How about using your money to invest in training to be better at the job you do, instead of just talking about tools and running down someone else for the brand of tools they prefer to use. All this Feller appeared to be is a bunch of talk, I bet he gets his tongue sunburned.

    Buy your Icon at 25% off or better. I just bought everything below today for 25% off with the promotion that just started
    1/4, 3/8 and1/2 drive short and deep SAE & metric (12 sets of sockets total)
    SAE and metric nut drivers
    1/4,3/8, and 1/2 ratchets
    Wrench pliers
    SAE and metric stubby wrenches
    I’m guessing it was about $700 total. It was over several receipts, so I don’t have a number locked in my head.
    It’s not Snap On, but I didn’t spend $5000 either.

    I have icon double flex head ratcheting wrenches, I broke one and brought it in to harbor freight and they gave me a hard time about it and wouldn’t warranty anything I had. A new harbor freight opened closer to me and I brought in there and they swapped it out for me no questions asked. If your closest harbor freight won’t warranty it try another one. Or even just trying again another time it’s really up to to the person working at that time, whether they want to be bothered to warranty your tools for you.

    The swivel head ratchet is exactly the same design as a very old S-K I have, which has been my favorite ratchet for the past 50 years. Of course my has just a knurled metal handle instead of the plastic so popular these days, but that design is the best.

    Icon is a mixed bag for me. I have 4 different ratchets and they've been great for me over the last year since I took on mechanic work as a career. On the other hand I bought a set of their extractors, opened them, and drove straight back to the store to return them. Three of the extractors in the kit were practically smooth on the part meant to bite into the broken bolt. That being said they let me return them no issue even though I'd torn up the box. I've had to warranty out one of my ratchets and it was a quick easy process and I wasn't even asked for a receipt.
    As for pliers, in my opinion nothing beats snap on and knipex. Especially knipex. I have three different sized pairs of cobras and a set of twin grips, and they've made their money back with how many times they've saved my ass

They were so bad though, looked horrible and the 14mm barely fit my toyota tensioner. The ICON ratchets aren't bad at all, I've got a couple of them in my farm service truck for field work. By no means are they as good as my SnapOn ratchets at work, but for the price they work great for in the field use.
    I've looked at some of their pliers before, but haven't bought any yet, and probably won't. When it comes to pliers Knipex has got that market figured out.

      Explain why they're not as good as snap on? Because the USA stamped in the steel makes them better? I have 4 snap on ratchets the dual 80"s. They same as my Icons. Only better because says USA other than that nobody's ever proven them to be better. So at $150 for a snap on ratchet and $44 for an Icon. My new gearwrench 120XP locking flex... nothing tops them! Nothing! They are the Supreme king of ratchets! Snap on can't touch them.

    I don't get why you think they'll "probably wear out pretty quick" - I've got several Icon ratchets and used them a ton, including the 3/8" and 1/4" rotos. They've all been great, and haven't missed a beat. I'm not sure the mechanism was the problem there - seems like you just weren't used to it. As far as the Pliers Wrench, I have three pairs of the Knipex and the Icon, and all of them are great. I wouldn't warn anyone away from Knipex, but the same is true of the Icon. It doesn't open *quite* as wide and can't use the soft jaws my Knipex pair can, but work great. The handles are soft but not slick with oil/grease in my experience.

    Could these tools be straight out of the same machines in the same factory’s as the big money brands but sold as a cheaper brand as they have failed quality control for minor things that the big brands don’t let pass but to most people don’t matter? Those slip joint pliers are as far as I can see exactly the same as the snap on set I have. And the plier wrench looks identical to a knipex set. Maybe the finish and the adjustment wasn’t to knipex spec so they go in the icon pile?

    I have to laugh at all the Snap On fan boys that are so butt hurt about Icon tools. I owned alot of snap on tools that I used everyday for years. No doubt snap on is the best, but Icon tools are pretty good tools for the price point. A fellow mechanic has had Icon tools now for about three years, uses them everyday, wrenches, sockets-chrome and impact, ratchets and pliers. This is all he uses and he is not gentle on his stuff. All his Icon tools have held up, no issues at all. Some guys can't afford Snap On tools nor do they want to go into tool debt. I prefer to buy decent tools at a fraction of the price and spend my hard earned money else where and have a little fun instead of me giving my money to the Snap On guy so he can have fun. Just a thought

  • @Bob-gy6ud

    Personally I do like Icon tools, are they “Tool Truck” quality no they’re not. They are however Husky, Kobalt, Craftsman(Stanley) quality. With the ability to replace in store when it breaks is nice.
    Yes tool truck tools break too I’ve broken SnapOn, Mac, Matco, SK, Tekton, Craftsman (USA), Milwaukee etc. however when at home or at work if I break a tool on a job/project I need the tool right then not next Wednesday when tool truck arrives, or even worse with Tekton and Milwaukee snapshot mail in replacement. So yes I buy big box house brand tools with pride so long as it has in house returns.
    Now if you’re a mindless gorilla who puts pipes on ratchets and jerks and tugs it you’re going to break that ratchet regardless who makes it as NO RATCHET was ever designed for that. You use a damn breaker bar. If you argue that then you are not even a mechanic let alone a professional you are and forever will be a no good grease monkey unfit to work on a Schwinn

    • @donaldhollums3278
      @donaldhollums3278 Год назад

    • @Bob-gy6ud
      @Bob-gy6ud Год назад +1

      @@donaldhollums3278 depends where you live and when they ship it. Takes 5-10 days for Tekton to get replacements. But even if it was 2 HD, HF, Lowes are 10 mins from where I work or 30 mins from where I live. So that alone is why I don’t buy Tekton, Gearerench, or Milwaukee hand tools. As I said if I break the tool when I’m using it on a job I can’t wait 2 days. It’s also why I stopped buying from tool trucks.

    • @donaldhollums3278
      @donaldhollums3278 Год назад

      @@Bob-gy6ud I certainly understand the convenience of the aforementioned stores being near by. HF, Lowe’s and HD are about 10 minutes from my house as well. I was using NAPA as my parts store and “tool truck” for a while, but that was too inconvenient with only one NAPA being a 20-25 minute one way drive from my house. I have been in HF and Lowe’s more than HD. I reckon to have been in HD three times in 5 years. I’m sure your tools get more use than mine for the time being, my side work is on hold while doing some schooling during the foreseeable future for my job in another line of work. I still do my own vehicles all I can in the meantime.
