    There are negative comments about clean and organized tools on every toolbox video I watch. Makes no sense. Almost like people take pride in working out of a dirty sh*tbox. My brother is a diesel tech. He uses the living crap out of his tools every day. He wipes them down at the end of the day before they go back in the box (religiously; bordering on clinical OCD). Most of them look brand new. I gave him a hard time about it once (because his cleaning routine was cutting into beer drinking time). His reasoning was pretty simple...
    "If I am working on a guy's semi and I bring him out to show him something, I want my toolbox to be a reflection of my work ethic... clean, organized, meticulous and efficient.... If I had a half-million dollars tied up in a semi, that's the kind of guy I would want working on it. Think about it... If a guy isn't willing to take care of HIS OWN stuff, why would I want him touching MY stuff?"
    Hard to argue with that...

      I think the point is that even in a shop where the mechanic is OCD about cleaning the tools… there’s still usually signs of use. Somewhere. Like grease smudges on the drawer mats from when you’re working on something and get a different tool out with dirty hands. This collection looks like a showroom display and rarely used at all. Not that there’s anything wrong with that… unless you’re giving reviews about the quality.

    Alot of comments about how clean your tools are! My dad taught me when I was young to always clean your tools when you're done and put them away where they belong. I watched your vid because I just picked up a few sets of Icon wrenches and wanted to see if people liked them or not. When I was 19 I started my first job as an industrial mechanic and bought Craftsman sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers and wrenches. They were all pretty good, but the best thing was the convenience of being able to exchange for new when they broke. Only had to replace 1/2 inch ratchets and screwdrivers. I get attached to tools that I have had for a long time. I would still have them but they washed away in a flood a few years ago and now I'm starting over with my home tools. Hope these Icons do good for me. Great vid, Thanx.

    I bought the Icon wrench set, don’t have any issues. I also have a complete Tekton socket set and a Icon ratchet. The Tekton ratchet I dropped and the guts came flying out. Received rebuilt kit and rebuilt no issues after. I work on the Pump repair field so everyday is a hard day and a torture test on my tools. I think I can live with the Icons / Tekton tools rather than the extra money for the Snap-on stuff. Have some Snap-on stuff but can see the logic of spending 4 time the money for a tool that will perform as well. Have to wait for Fridays for the truck to come by or swing by HF and replace the stuff. The Tekton took 2 days to receive the replacement so not bad. I would say if you are starting try the Icon or Tekton. The Icon are built in Taiwan as are the Tekton (some are US made)

    In defense of the extra-long combination wrenches..
    All of the other wrenches you can purchase in-store are shorter than these, no matter where you go. As an alignment technician, these extra long wrenches were exactly what I needed and ultimately saved me hundreds of dollars because the only other options were Snap-On or Matco.

    Been using ICON impact sockets since March 2020 and can say they have held up really well. I use 1/2” drive deep well metric and standard sockets everyday, and they have held up to the abuse from the impact hammer. I use the hi-torque milsucky impact and it destroys the Pittsburgh sockets and especially the Pittsburgh swivel impact sockets. Luckily harbor freight is less than a mile from our shop and we replace them often. Boss man bought me the 1/2, 3/8 & 1/4” drive flex head ratchets, and they are pretty nice! I use the 1/4” ratchet more than my snap on ratchet! I will say that I don’t trust the 1/2” flex head like I do my snap on ratchet, I’ve used both enough to say that the snap on pawl engagement is much better, there is hardly any slop to my 2 year old snap on ratchet, and my ICON ratchet has some play in the anvil already. Not enough to worry about, but enough to make me always use my snap on ratchet when I need to put some serious impetus on a bolt.

      ehhh, anything thats atleast decent i feel, i bought bare cheap pittsburgh impact sockets for 1/2.. and all the lugs would get stuck in them when hitting them loose or tight with the impact wrench, tried a diff set of sockets on the same lugs and doesnt get stuck lmao

      Impact sockets should be the cheapest but reasonable quality item you buy they are soft metal and designed to break. If you professionally wrench buy these tools and replace them SLOWLY with high quality tools as you progress. Depending on the job you’re doing it’s important to have quality tools and equipment. A brake job is not the same as engine work.

    • @cyrusmoser1090
      @cyrusmoser1090 Год назад

      @Sid The sloth where I can tell the biggest difference is when using the open end of the Snap-on compared to the icon wrench. The icon will "cam" out / slip where as the Snap-on you can still tighten the faster more. There's plenty of videos on RUclips testing the Snap-on vs icon wrenches. The Snap-on is going to have tighter tolerances compared to the icon.

    • @cyrusmoser1090
      @cyrusmoser1090 Год назад

      @Sid The sloth as far as the icon impact sockets I think there great epically for there price! That's said they don't make the 3/8 stubby impact sockets. Sometimes you need a smaller socket to get it into tight places. I'm not a Snap-on fan boy either! I use and abuse my tools!

      Chrome Molybdenum is actually a higher quality and higher cost steel (not softer) than Vanadium, its the heat treating process that makes the CrV sockets seem harder, whereas the CrMoly for impact sockets is heat treated to be more ductile. CrM is also used in pry bars and punches when heat treated for those things.

      True, but to match it with Snap-on, it would cost more than 3x as much. I own and use primarily Snap-on, and they are very good indeed. However, after 30+ years of use, I have found that certain Snap-on items are NOT the best when compared to other brands. And as I tool up additional work centers, I have found that the ICON line is just as capable (and considerably cheaper) and on the rare occasion when a tool is damaged or worn, it's way easier to slip over to HF and get them replaced. It doesn't help that my local Snap-on truck owner is a flake and a jerk (the original owner was awesome but he retired and sold it to some punk, flat-bill, chin strap who's more concerned with his piercings and tattoos than he is with selling tools). My opinion is that Snap-on fanboys will pay for status... I just want good tools I can make money with. Note: I have been buying some Tekton tools since Cal-Ranch opened near by, and they are VERY capable as well.
