I've only ever heard second hand about CAT tools, but with Brandon actually working the counter, it was a treat to hear his perspective. I'm so thankful to Brandon for having me out to his shop. If a tool costs $10 to make and a company sells it for $12, then it made $2 on a tool. If SnapOn makes the same tool and it costs them $12 but they sell it for $90, then they made $78 on a tool. Other companies can outsell SnapOn 38:1 and SnapOn still wins. If you have a room full of guys buying tools and ONE of them buys SnapOn, then SnapOn wins. It is the Louis Vuitton of tools.

      @@joels7605 SnapOn is just slapping their label on tools made by the same company that makes harbor freight stuff. But it’s literally 1000x the price. I mean, good for SnapOn for fooling so many dumdums. It’s just wild that so many people can be so easily parted with their money.

    Honestly, good for this guy being able to afford a hobby like that.
    I was a diesel and auto dealership mechanic for years.
    The first half of my career I worked out of an old Mac economizer top and bottom box until the cabinet on the rollaway cracked at the upper corners from rolling it over rough pavement and Mac offered me the original price off a larger roller.
    I still use that roller and the old top box 30+ years later.
    They were made by Stanley for Mac before Mac merged with them.
    The two boxes combined, my carts, all of my tools cost me about what his roller alone cost him.
    I still have just about every receipt.
    That box is stuffed full of Snap-on, Mac, Matco, Cornwell, Craftsman, Blue Point, Stanley, Blackhawk, Great Neck, Plumb, Williams, Proto, Lisle, OTC, Estwing, Icon, Quinn, Bauer. You name it, it’s in those boxes.
    I bought plenty from the trucks but also pawn shops, swap meets, auctions, eBay. I bought a lot of high end tools at the DRMO auctions.
    I bought a couple houses through the course my wrenching career using the older of those tools.
    I think that green and black box and its unused contents cost him more than my first house in Colorado.
    In fact, I’m sure of it.

    In order to warranty a CAT branded Snap On Tool you have to travel to a local CAT dealer and hopefully swap the old one for a new one. And sometimes the dealer doesn't have the tool in stock. So you can wait, go home and come back at a later date. You can also buy Snap On tools from their industrial rep. Actual Snap On Tools are 50% less than the truck dealer.

I cant for the life of me remember the other name, it wasn't a common recognized name though. They are not the same! They are the same up to the point of heat treatment and made in the same batches. The snap-on gets heat-treated to a higher hardness level.

      I didn’t see any magnetic organizers 🤔

  • @TadpoleTrainer
    @TadpoleTrainer 4 месяца назад +1

    Those organizers are actually the nicest looking ones I’ve ever seen anywhere ever. They’re not even that expensive either. $25 for the wrench organizer. More pricey for the socket trays but still seems worth it.
    It looks like impacts will fit the trays too?

    • @ToolBoxTour
      @ToolBoxTour  4 месяца назад

      Yeah I love how clean they look!

    • @TadpoleTrainer
      @TadpoleTrainer 4 месяца назад

      @@ToolBoxTourprobably easier to keep clean too! Lately I’ve been using magnetic trays. They have their upsides but keeping them clean isn’t one of them. I’m constantly blowing out metal shavings from them. Aluminum would help with that and the weight is probably enough to hold everything in place

    Another great Snap On clone is WILLIAMS. Sockets are same blanks just not as fine tuned and the stamping is tiny. I have a buddy laser the sizes in large font. These are my bang around and don’t care sockets and are WAY nicer than the mid tier Taiwan stuff

    I have been a aircraft and heavy const equip. Mech for almost 30yrs. I laugh at these guys that have 15 different versions of the same wrench. 14 of them never get used! I hate to see young guys take on large dept so that their employer can benefit financially. Have you ever seen an x-ray tech have to purchase their own x-ray machine? Sounds kind of crazy right?

Question the Blue point bit set do you happen to know the part number. The reason I ask is I believe I have the same and definitely buying the rack for them. It has just turned into an expensive day but who cares. I can't think of a better way to spend my forced holidays. This is great and thank God I found your channel. Sounds awfully dramatic but it is.
