Really appreciate this video, this is the exact route I'm headed down. Wow and that camera quality on stream - I'm using the Sony ZV-1 which I thought looked sharp.
Damn dude thank you! If you have any questions down the road let me know. Once streamlabs gets that 1080 bug sorted I hope my quality is top notch. I appreciate you man!
BIG HELP!!! Thanks man
Great! You’re welcome!
Super helpful, thank you!
You’re very welcome! I’ve posted updates since this video too to show any changes or upgrades I’ve made.
Super helpful!! Thanks!!!
You’re very welcome! I have a few more, newer videos too if you ever run into issues
@@JimMadden im looking at them as we speak lol. This video is super convenient tho cause i want to start steaming and use my ipad as a second screen as well and wasnt sure if i could use my vlogging camera as a way for people to see me stream. Hopefully it works out for me. Thanks again
@@Teababii1995 amazing! Yeah it’s great when you already own everything you need. Good luck!
Great video! Similar setup here. I’m using the Mac 2017 with the Elgato HD 60S with the PS5. However I had to download OBS link for the capture to work in SLOBs. Oh yeah that microphone is a beast for $35, and the web cam is the iPhone 12 Pro using EPOCCAM Elgato app for $7.99
Sounds great! I was able to avoid the OBS link route with the HD60S+, but if it works it works! Good call on the phone, I get asked that a lot so I’ll reference your setup to help those people! Thanks man
Yeah the only thing about the OBS Link is the lag so I will have to use another monitor or TV play the game on.
Nice setup! do you use an additional USB-C Adapter/Multiport?
Thanks! I don’t! I may add a dock down the road but right now everything I need is covered! I’ll be doing an updated setup video this weekend as well to address some questions and upgrades
222 like it’s a sign. This the one gonna see me streaming call of duty with one hand in no time. Thanks my guy 👌
Hell yeah! You’re welcome
Great video! quick question, Youre using the instant gameview to play the ps4? how reliable is it in terms of fps, latency, and any stutter? Also, what resolution is the instant gameview in? Can you play in 4k60 with the instant gameview?
No I’m just playing regularly! I switch the input to the ps4 on the main monitor so there is no lag or anything. I’ve updated some stuff from this video and will be filming a new video about it ASAP!
How about second monitor to read comments for stream brother?
Can put extra cable on mini mac?it's enough for 1slot?
Great setup. Looking to do something similar with a m1 mac mini, iPad Air 4 and Xbox Series X.
Should work great! Just posted an updated setup as well showing some minor changes since this one! Good luck
@@JimMadden Cool. I'll check out the update.
Hey, great video. But can you do a step by step version for streaming ipad games. Like open streamlab, open game capture, plug in the ipad, setting etc for the sound to go to the viewers and you
Hey thank you! Sorry, I actually don’t use the iPad to stream from, I was just using it as a second monitor at the time of this video. Sorry I can’t help with that!
Thank you, I’m just missing the computer.. I got the webcam,ipad,mic,ps4,monitor..
does the macmini can be use as direct music streamer using spotify without a monitor?
MSN I’m glad I found this video. Bro this is my almost my EXACT setup lol except for the cam 🤑 and I’m using my XBSX 🙏🏼 has the bug for 1080 been fixed?!?
I switched to OBS! It runs 1080 no problem. I have a bunch of new updated videos since this one that shows everything
My setup is virtually identical, hardware wise. I already owned an a6400 so I opted to use the usb webcam function. I have an ATEM Mini that I use to route the audio from my headset via the 3.5mm input. Same Elgato cable as you, and even though my audio never peaks in OBS or in the ATEM software control, it sounds crunchy in recordings. My usb mic is the Rode video mic NT, so my voice is fine, but gameplay and chat never sounds as good. Might be a bad cable.
Yeah it must have a less than ideal connection? Maybe some settings in the Elgato software itself too
@@JimMadden I watched the rest of your videos. Ditched this setup for audio in favor of the following: plugged my Rode Videmic NT via usb into the PS4 Pro for chat. Set the ps4 to output audio via hdmi. Plugged headphones into my monitors 3.5mm output. I then took an aux cable from the Rode’s 3.5mm output and ran it into the ATEM Mini’s analog audio inputs. Success! Clean game play and party chat audio over hdmi, and I was able to use my same game chat mic with an audio cable into a capture card.
@@LuisCardenasrompcbsa helllllll yeah! Very sick, great job.
Pretty much my set up except I’m using a 2018 MacBook Pro, elgato wave 3 and go pro for my webcam but it crashes so got an avermedia coming tomorrow. I use my iPad Pro to monitor my stream and chat with viewers. I’m playing in a tv but I think I’m gonna just use a nice monitor instead. I’ll stop by your stream next time you’re on!
Sounds great! I tried with my wife’s MBP at one point before I had everything I needed and the fan was just way too loud to be close to the mic, and yeah it crashed all the time. Good work around though for sure, I dig it. Feel free anytime! I’m streaming weekdays between 9-5.
Whats up Jim, I have an a7iii as well that i would be using for my setup. What type of lens / lenses would work best for streaming? Nifty 50? Zoom lens? All i currently have is an 85mm
Good question! So it’ll depend on where it’s mounted, mine right now is a few inches longer than my arms length towards it with a 35mm on it and I sort of wish it was a bit wider? So I’d suggest the sigma 30mm since the price point is great. You’ll want something between 24-35mm ideally, if you want cropped in to just your face you could get away with tighter for sure, but I find wider more appealing and attractive for a face cam. Good luck!
I bought a Mac mini this week i love it, but ran into problems. I have the s which i bought a cheaper capture card from amazon. I did a test today and didn’t get no audio from the capture card, but when i went live the sound was there. I also need a usb hub. I have web cam, mic, keyboard, mouse, then ring light. Plus the iPad for sidecar and my phone. Ill check it out today and test, before i run and go buy the elgato s+
Yeah good luck! I was never able to get the S version to work at all and that’s why I went with the S+. There are some great docks for the Mac mini too that’ll help with all of the ports you need.
What exactly do you run the iPad Pro for? Another monitor? Also, can you run obs stream labs on iPad Pro directly? Why or why not? Trying to learn. 😃 thanks for video.
Hey no problem at all! I used the iPad to monitor my stream, so it had my chat up and my twitch dashboard! Since this video I added a second monitor to do the same thing, just better. I don’t believe you could use an iPad to run OBS directly, i know you can stream from an iPad but it wouldn’t be capturing gameplay from something else. You can get away with it using one monitor, you’d just need maybe your phone or something handy to read chat and monitor the stream. Feel free to ask more questions as you go :)
Great job man! i have the same setup M1 mac mini , Ps4 pro but having problems to record desktop audio. any ideas? (IshowU software not compatible yet)
I actually haven’t tried but it’s on my list! I’ll play around this week/weekend and keep you posted on it
you'll have to use some software solution anyways. Its Mac OS that doesnt allow to capture audio from desktop.
This is a similar setup that I want to go with. However I want to stream to pof and MeetMe apps. Sony Camera to iPad if it’s possible?
I don’t think the Sony would connect to the iPad as a camera, I don’t actually think you can use any external camera with an iPad? I could be wrong though! You can always use the built in though!
Wow thanks a lot for sharing those infos. I dreaming to switch my old Macbook pro (mid2010) doesn't let me stream on twitch correctly glitches/drops/freezes/crazy fan noise... I just want to set up a Drawing tablet display working on photoshop and a webcam. that all. but I still thinking with no serious answers... What are your thought?
No problem! Yeah MacBooks are awful for streaming simply because of the fan noise and lack of power. To stream using photoshop youd still need a base computer to run everything for you, then set up your camera, and your tablet as either a source or just point the camera at it. Good luck!
Watching this literally on the day of purchasing the plus version. Sold the S yesterday and threw down another £100 to secure it because although I managed to get it working i wasn't satisfied
Good call! It definitely will do it’s best to work with the S version, but unfortunately it seems so spotty and unreliable I’d never recommended it
prefer the Avermedia Live Gamer Ultra best with 120 et 144hz for less $$$
Hi Jim, thanks for sharing your video. I'm deciding between the MacBook Air (M2) or the iPad Pro (M2) - my preference is to go with the iPad Pro but only if I can install OBS and then stream from my PS5 via Elgato HD60 X. Do you know if this is possible or do I only have the option of going with the MB Air?
Hey no problem! So, I could be wrong but I don’t think you could stream from an iPad. Not only do I not think it’d be supported, but you need ports and adapters to really take advantage of streaming. Again, I could be wrong because people said I couldn’t stream using a Mac and I figured it out, but I’d suggest a computer so you have the power behind you. Good luck!
@@JimMadden thanks Jim, yeah I thought the same re power aspect of MB over iPad. I’ll do a bit more research to confirm. Thanks for your advice 👍🏻
I have an issue with my M1 MacBook Pro when I start streaming it does not pick up my audio from my elgato or wave link software (using elgato wave 3 mic) and I get static on the stream.
Have you opened the elgato software first? Game capture HD? I used to have to open that first, play around there, set levels and check everything then once I opened OBS it worked. I also have a few more videos about my set up in detail since this video, something may help. Keep me posted
I have a question, that usb mic. Can you use it for stream and party chat? bc i haven't been able to find anything on how to use one usb mic for both stream and console
You probably won’t be able to find a USB mic that will do both. I’ve updated my setup a bit and now I run a USB mic into discord instead and don’t use in game party chat. Best thing you can do is have a headset mic for game chat, and a USB mic for stream audio. Audio is definitely a tough part of streaming from a console!
Try to do this question are you still using the PS4 pro for streaming ??
I have stopped for some business reasons, but I was always playing off a ps4 and using the computer to handle the stream no problem!
May be a dumb question but I keep seeing people with two mics. Can one mic be used to have in game chat and also for the regular chat or do you need two different mics?
Not dumb at all! The reason I did it was so that I didn’t have to constantly mute and unmute in game to talk to my stream. Sure, you can use one and do that or constantly have it on so your team mates hear you talking to your chat, or you constantly mute so you can’t talk in game, but that was the reason I went with 2! Also helps with balancing audio
@@JimMadden ahhh. I see. Thank you
Nice
so what did you do to get your game chat working
I have other videos explaining it!
Nice setup you got there, mate. Have you had any issues capturing with the HD60s+ on OBS Mac or is it just plug and play? I’ve been thinking of getting one myself
None at all! I tried the non + version before and it didn’t work, this one worked straight away.
Dude you saying that your cable management is bad is straight trolling lol.... Come take a look at my cables and it look like a wired Amazon Jungle. So almost ready to hire someone to hook me up
Haha! Okay okay, I know mine isn’t THAT bad. As long as it’s not bad enough something is living in it without you knowing I think you’re good.
How do you put CarPlay on iPad Air
Hey I’m assuming you mean sidecar! Here is the forum to explain it, and shows what hardware you need to make it work! It’s all built into certain iPads and Mac OS versions.

Nice Video! Could you please share the sound settings! As i have ps4 pro, elgato hd60s+(+chat link cable), macbook air M1, 3d pulse headset streaming on OBS Studio! The issue im facing is with gameplay sound and chat party they aint get captured all at once.
I have an updated video on my channel that may help! I had some issues with that at first as well
@@JimMadden ill check it tomorrow while my mic and camera arrive!

@@tahatabikh1337 no problem! Good luck, let me know if you run into issues and I can try to help.
@@JimMadden i got my microphone and everything went well but i wanted to know if there is anyway to stop hearing myself in my headphones and make my voice go to stream directly. Any help?!
@@tahatabikh1337 in OBS you should be able to go into the advanced settings of your audio sources and turn off “monitor” on the mic source, that should turn it off in your ear!
How did you connect the m1 to the ipad?
I just used Sidecar in this! A feature to act as a second screen from the computer
Are you then using WiFi or Ethernet to stream?
Always Ethernet!
Hey man, i been trying to input spotify into StreamlabsOBS and is not working! any help?
I haven’t tried! I just moved and will be setting up this weekend, let me see if I can poke around
Hey I’ve found a way to stream audio from your Mac now, videos on my channel! Just wanted to let you know if you still needed a hand.
BRO YOU JUST GAVE ME AN IDEA!!! My wife might kill me but I'll ask you first... I'm trying my hardest to declutter my desk and I see you are using in this video the side car app to mirror ya M1 Mac Mini do you suggest this even though now you currently have a second monitor?
I used sidecar when I only had one monitor yeah! It works great, I just use my iPad a lot away from my desk so I decided to get a second monitor to stop unplugging it
@@JimMadden man I think I’m going to do that and get the new m1 iPad Pro lol but by any chance can you make a video of your obs studio settings a complete breakdown I already have my new Mac mini thanks to your advice and I’m wondering what settings you have

How did you hook up the iPad to the Mac mini, that’s what I’m most curious about
Using Sidecar, its a feature that acts as a display between the 2
@@JimMaddenare you using obs?
@@TimberWolf1000 yep!
@@JimMadden I’m trying sidecar and for some odd reason obs won’t open on my ipad
@@TimberWolf1000 this was a long time ago, so I dont know what has changed, but it acted as a second screen, so I would have OBS from my computer dragged onto the iPad. Not open on the iPad itself like an app
got elgato hd60s+ hooked to my laptop and ps5 and trying to play 120hz while streaming 1080p 60 fps ?
What laptop is it? What problems are you having?
@@JimMadden cant play 120hz and stream, have to change to 60hz on my monitor to able to pass through
@@abbthedab1831 yeah it must be because of the older Elgato!
Where’s that keyboard from tho
Just Apple! Its the black alpha numeric Bluetooth keyboard. They recently discontinued it but you can find them used all the time.
Hi, I'm trying to record my gameplay not stream. I use a DSLR camera to record myself using the elgato cam link 4k and the elgato hd 60 S+ on my apple mac on OBS. As I'm recording it seems to be fine and looks smooth, However after i finish my recording and check the video, it is super lagging where the video image is barely even moving cause the lag is that bad. How do I solve this problem. I've been stuck on this issue for 2 years now.
Hmm, that’s strange! What model of Mac are you using? What camera too?
@@JimMadden it's a macbook air 2015. and I'm using a Cannon DSLR 80D
@@MRNOLIP I think it may be the processing power of the Air holding you back. Have you tried just a webcam to see if it uses less resources? That’s extremely CPU heavy to try and record at that quality.
@@JimMadden No not exactly. But the game capture also comes out laggy on obs. If I use the Elgato app to record, both game capture and camera recording comes out fine. The issue with that app is you can only use one elgato devices at a time, as far as I know. I'm just at a lost of what to do
@@MRNOLIP I wonder if it’s an encoding issue then? Have you tried all available encoders in OBS? I’m not sure what’s available on the older intel based macs but that may be checking out as well! Keep me posted.
I thought I was the only one not able to stream with a MacbookPro M1 at 1080p, right now I'm streaming 720p60, works wonder. I still have issues with recording and streaming at the same time. Any work around?
Yeah hopefully streamlabs optimizes the M1 version soon! As far as doing both, I actually don’t record while streaming so I’m probably not the best to ask. Let me try my next stream and get back to you!
@@JimMadden cool, where I can find your stream?
@@joellithgow2994 I put it at the top of the description! Thanks man

Just the 8GB base model!
Hi have you tried using iPhone camera instead via NDI ?
No but I think it works! Even when the iPad is plugged in, it seems to have it as a video source.
@@JimMadden it sure is
@@JimMadden Got myself M1 Air. Works great with NDI. And performance combined with silence is great!
@@wonabe awesome!!! Great to hear.
Do you have a delay? I’m still having a issue with that
Normal stream delay? Or are you experiencing something else? When I stream, there is definitely a delay that comes and goes based off connection and bitrate but that’s totally normal!
@@JimMadden probably like a 10 sec or so and do you think a wired connection would make it better?
@@GCja_v_id I think that’s pretty normal for streaming man! Mines 10-12 seconds unless I choose otherwise. Mines wired with a gigabit connection as well.
@@JimMadden I think it’s a little longer and I might try wired
@@GCja_v_id from what I understand you can get down to 5-7 seconds but that’s about it? There’s also a “reduce stream delay” in the settings on OBS I believe. Good luck!
I can’t get my game audio
What equipment do you have? Where can’t you get the game audio?
@@JimMadden I’m using an M1 mac and even if I put my audio output to hdmi it still won’t pick up any game audio on obs the elgato application
@@itssamer2204 the audio should come from the video capture with the Elgato card, then it should show your audio levels in OBS. Not as a speedster audio source. Let me know if that works and if not I’ll try to help more!
What Audio Mixer are you using?
Just built in audio settings with my mic through OBS. Some filters added there, as far as internal computer audio I haven’t downloaded anything to use it but there is 3rd party apps out there to get the macs internal audio as well

@@daviddaquiritv2431 that’s very weird. I’m getting a new mic on Friday, it’s not a yeti but let me see if I got lucky with mine or can find any more insight. You could also go into the properties of the source and make sure monitor/output is on?
This is going to be SUCH a weird question but, do you think a 2011 Mac Mini has any compatible ways to use a capture card? I know an El Gato prob wouldn’t work. I’m trying to play games off of a PS4 and then be able to have overlays and such on the Mac Mini.
It might be able to do it! It would probably heat up and make more noise than the M1, but it’d be worth a shot if you already have the gear to try. Worst case you could return the capture card if it doesn’t work on the system! Just check with the retailer before hand if they’d return it after it’s opened.
@@JimMadden got any capture card recommendations? And thank you so much for the fast response! Subbed to your RUclips and followed on twitch! Looking forward to seeing more content!
