- The Azores Islands are a Portuguese archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. I visited in December of 2022 to run the 60k EPIC Azores trail race on Sao Miguel Island where I'd end up having to battle some pretty tough conditions. I then stayed for two weeks to soak in as much as I could of all the Islands have to offer, including its rugged coastlines, green pastures, lake-filled calderas, and local cuisine.

João is a wonderfully inspiring character (along with your other island friends) and makes me want to up my personal game as a 56 yr old - will get off my lazy butt and attempt a favourite 20 kayer trail run here tomorrow. As for the video - my wife and I now have the Azores on our bucket list, making this last hour of viewing very expensive indeed!! 😜

Thanks to your superb video I could return to the race again. I had the same problem with missing part of the race and disqualification. Like you, I was laffing during the race about the weather🤣 (what an idiot I am to run in this condition).
what an incredible place -- love getting the insider look with all your excellent tour guides and hosts! also, Georgia was pretty cool and all too, but Azores' happy cows are about 1,000x less stressful than the sheep dogs LOL

The way Jeff films makes for the coolest travel videos! He goes to places I know so little about and then makes me want to put them all on my bucket list! And to be able to explore a culture through running is absolutely stunning! A dream job for sure, well done!
There is a Gin from the Azores called "Rocha Negra" (black rock). Delicious gin and tonic with a slice of Azores pineapple.

Since my first visit to Azores, i keep going back, lost the count of the dozens of times already. For trail races and camps, other times just to enjoy what those islands have to offer, people, food, etc. It’s a pearl in the middle of Atlantic, and every island is unique.
The weather, well, embrace it as part of Azores experience.
If you like those non-human steps, in MIUT (Madeira) they come in all sizes and shapes 😈.

It is so funny when even in a day where you are wet to the bone, you start the race skipping/jumping puddles and finish it just crossing rivers right through 😂. The human mind is amazing 😂

Great video. It's fun running when the weather conditions are a bit tough. I made a similar DNF (my only DNF so far) at a race in Denmark (my home country) missing a 7k loop. When I saw the front runners running past me I realised that something was wrong but just haven't got enough time to back track and do the loop. Still had a good time on the trails as you did. DNF or not, no one can take the experience from you.

Really enjoyed your video. Great production value - beautiful scenery, good editing, and nice music. My favorite part is when you were running on the lush mountain ranges. The Insta360 footages really added a lot to depth the feeling. How long does the battery last you? do you have to switch between it and camera constantly? was it hard/does it slow you down?
I shoot quite sparingly on the Insta360, so I’ve never run out of battery. It’s a bit of worth switching back and forth, but I’ve got a pretty good system now.
