I've had this watch for around two weeks. This watch checked two boxes for me. I like that it has the dial texture from the Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer, and the hands from the Khaki Field Murph. It saved me from buying two more watches. So far, this one is a keeper. Oh, I agree about the subpar packaging.
I tried one on and honestly it felt right, like it was my watch, if that makes sense. My wife liked it too and said she was happy to let me save up for it for my upcoming 40th birthday. Several months out to save yet but I can’t wait!
This is a perfect example of where the width of the actual watch face is what matters, and not the case size. I tried one of these on in a store and compared it side-by-side with my 42 mm Citizen Challenge diver, and the Hamilton watch face actually looks bigger. I love your channel, and would really appreciate it if you would measure the actual width of the dial face on watches going forward.
I would have preferred hand winding on this type of watch - other than that, it's great. If it was a Longines Heritage it would cost twice as much.
This watch fails in two areas that are fun when done right, but don’t matter in practice: the number of bezel clicks and lume intensity. Fortunately, it appears to nail all the other aspects that actually matter: Automatic mvmt, high power reserve, attractive vintage design, and a well-proportioned case. I also love that large diamond crown, numeral font, grainy dial, and the fauxtina which warms up the watch and keeps it from appearing too clinical. Glad to see Hamilton have (mostly) listened to fans.
Rivet bracelet yes! 1000%
Is the lume a deal breaker 🤔?
Lume is fine and the bezel.is tight. Better than 90% of divers out there. So what if its a 50 click? It's responsive and no back play.
Just got this watch after lusting over it for ages! Beautiful timepiece, despite it being a sporty watch I find it very classy
Thanks for calling out the poor visibility on the Khaki Field watches. It lets me know that this watch does not have the same issue.
I've never been a fan of the Khaki line but this one nails it for me. Right size, design is gorgeous and it's the first time I've found a brown strap that works with a black dial (maybe it's due to the 'patina' lume that's brown-ish?). Any idea though why the 50 click bezel though? That one has me stumped.
Update: I kept thinking "where have I seen this design before?" and I just figured it out. To my eye it has much of the same basic look of the Seiko "baby" Alpinist line (particularly the SPB159). Even with their similarties, thee two watches still give off a very different vibe so I'd be happy with either (even more so with a green baby Alpinist AND this Hamilton 😁)
Beautiful watch. I think this could look really nice in a mesh bracelet.
Nice watch. There is a lot to like about this watch. For someone who just likes to wear their watches. The shortcomings don't bother me at. Lume could be better but I use my smartphone to tell time at night. I like it. I'd wear it. I'd buy it.
Great review.
Cheers!
Este reloj Hamilton es verdaderamente hermoso, evoca aquellos relojes militares creados como herramienta para los pilotos y por tal razón es un bump para aquellos amantes conocedores de la relojería Suiza, tener este reloj puede ser el sueño de muchos.
A great review. This watch is beautifully proportioned and is surely destined to be a big seller. I was a little disappointed when I heard there wasn't going to be a small seconds dial on the 38mm version but the 3 hander is still a stunner.
I've just noticed on the Hamilton site, this model is also available with a date. Maybe this explains the ghost ish position on the no date one.
That is a different model.
I own this watch and have to agree that it's such a good looking watch in general. It's interesting because it takes the appearance as a dive watch but you realize it isn't after spending some time with it...
No doubt its a pilot with a crown that size. Loving the font of numerals.
I love the look of this watch, ordered one but not received yet. Reminds me of the Murph release but in a size I could wear
Very nice and credible. Does not need a bracelet as it reflects a retro classic 50s 60s models,
I love the look of this one! I would like to see a strap with rivets on this! The "railroad track" is another plus! As far as the lume is concerned I've never had a issue with it on my Khaki auto titanium field watch.. Thanks for the video!
The dial is the winner here. Good looking watch!
A beautiful looking watch !
I agree with you, a brushed ss bracelet would be really nice and a 40mm version would be fantastic ! Thanks for the review Chris, I was waiting for your review on this one. 👌❤
got this watch and it is fantastic. mine is very accurate and has a variability of 1.5 seconds per day. funny though, mine has a 60 click bezel. 38 mm fits perfect. i have pretty thin wrist 17.5 cm. around 6 3/4 inches. the bezel makes the watch look a bit larger than a normal 38 mm case. i really like the brushed ss case and onion crown. suits this watch well. it’s a watch like watches are supposed to be not a analog wrist computer.
I believe the newer ones have a 60 click bezel as Hamilton has realised and rectified their mistake. I read somewhere that for anyone who has a 50 click bezel version of this watch, you can send it in and they’ll replace it (not sure if it’s for free or not).
Jomashop for like 700, buying it's for myself for Xmas this year lol
The H10 movement definitely doesn’t have a ghost date. What you felt is most likely just a very snug crown tube gasket, which is fine as it means good water resistance.
Can't really understand the reason for 50 click bezel, just a big fail and definitely deal breaker for me
Nice watch. Did you ever find a bracelet for it? I’m currently looking for one.
I wish Hamilton would make this size of the Pilot Pioneer in bronze. I would buy it. The bronze version at 43mm is just too big IMO.
Totally agree. Why not 40mm with 20mm lug width.
Well, aside from no bracelet, weak lume, ghost position on the crown and a fifty click bezel I suppose it’s ok. It also has a dial with more than a passing similarity to a Seiko alpinist.
40mm will be released in a few years once everyone got one of these either 38mm or 43mm. Just a marketing strategy... I guess.. great review.. very beautiful watch.. especially AR coating takes the cake.
The more I see this watch, the more I love it
Do you have any comments on the accuracy of the watch? I would love to buy it, but at that price, not if it looses 9 plus seconds a day. Do you have any suggestions?
Very nice! First Hamilton I’ve seen that I’m gonna strongly consider.
Yeah man…by the end of the video I’m really wanting one. I like a bracelet but I bet this looks great on a tropic rubber strap.
very nice watch
i bought this today
100% nice
Great looking watch, I do hope Hamilton upgrades the lume on their dials...
This one caught my eye too Chris. I dig what Hamilton are doing and I think that the enthusiast community takes them for granted. There's a sense of 'meh... Hamilton' about the brand that is undeserved.
Love the mineral bezel... I don't like that watches no longer patina like a watch should, so every little bit helps. Would've preferred 40mm but that's a personal thing and the twin-stich strap? I'm over them. They're not really even historically accurate. Most straps of the 40's and 50's had a continuous line of stitching across the end to form a loop...
Jeez... I'm testy today, hey? 😊
Now that the 38 Murph is out would love to see a comparison.
It looks lovely. Nice review!
I love it! Great video too and feedback!
I wish the bezel was made of steel or ceramic ...
I think it looks awesome. Congratulations.
I love the look but there are a few things that likely will keep me from getting this. First, I wish the lugs were 20mm and drilled. Additionally, I don't see how this watch is priced as it is compared to the Khaki Field auto 38 with the same movement. Seems quite a bit too high. Even at say $800 or $750 I'd be scratching my head but more likely to pull the trigger than I am at $995. Although I generally like the look of the bezel I'd much prefer a SS version that was engraved/black infilled for the markers and numerals. ....and yeah....if yer gonna lume the watch, then lume it so it lasts.
I noticed that half ghost date position on my Longines Silver Arrow.
Ah so it's not just me...
Heat treated hands on this would be awesome and justifiable at this price
Looks great. Curious is the 43mm models have that same bezel or if it's a regular 60 or 120 click. Thanks Chris.
Bro i should have60 clicks. I have an pioneer and its 60 clicks. The hamilton says if you dont have 60 clicks we service it for free. This 50 clicks are mistake. Plz service it
I like the watch a lot, wish they would have made Murph in this size...
wish granted
@lasses3887 lol, yeah... just took them a while. Now I want the morse on said 38mm murph
Beautiful watch but I think I prefer the 38mm Murph. Hamilton is putting out some great releases.
Would have gotten this if it was in a bracelet. :)
Loved it, ty 👏
I'm wearing my Jazzmaster GMT world timer.
Hey Chris, did you manage to find a bracelet for this?
Thanks, I’ll stick with Seiko or Islander.
38 mm is the Perfect size...
Can someone explain to me why the 15 and 45 is on the opposite sides? I thought it was some design from the model 23 but that looks normal in the correct order.
This watch with a 40 mm case, integrated bracelet and better lume would be the sweet spot! Hopefully Hamilton is listening.
Great bang for the buck!
i want one
What size is your wrist?
What watch is the other one. With the rocket?
I really like Hamilton. I had the H64455523 Khaki Field King (felt more like a Princess) for 5-6 years. Wore it 3-4 times & sold it last month. At 40mm it felt too dainty. If it had been 42-43mm - another story.
Great looking and perfect for maybe $550. Also display back kills it for me. Not a fan of display backs. I compare everything now to my 36mm Glycine Combat Sub. $349 with an SW-200, Sapphire Crystal, 300mm water resistance, settled to +4 spd after 3 months. Bracelet not great with a butterfly clasp. Hard to justify so much money for not much more watch. I have abandoned status watches recently.
38mm is perfect
a 50-click bezel is a very strange design choice.
When is this watch supposed to come out
Mine has 60 clock bezel
50/48 click bezel? 🤣 🤣 🤣 I guess repurposed from a parts bin of some GMT watch? Yeah, thanks, Hamilton, for insulting my intelligence.
lol
Why it has the 45 on the bezel at 3 and the 15 at 9? Is there a specila purpose for that?
@@xavvall6819 Countdown.
No one uses a bezel for anything. Let’s all get real, these things are all decorative.
@@ilmostro16I actually use the bezel on my hydroconquest. Works well
Fauxtina Navy with different hands, don't like that or this.
0:56 - - People get too hung up on the presentation box. That Hamilton, Oris or the BALL watch box should be more than sufficient for any watch under $5k.
A few major companies should be ashamed. I'm talking to you Seiko, Tissot, Victorinox, Citizen & 99% of all microbrands to name a few.
The majority of my Invicta's, especially the Reserve line would put ALL those to shame.
Don't believe me; I'll provide pic's.
I'm sorry I'll probably gonna rub some people the wrong way, but just another Hamilton... Even within the swatch group, you can find a lot better value and craftsmanship while getting the same movement.
Black dial with a brown strap looks horrible.
They do that for vintage look I think. I think this watch would look better on a bracelet
Chinese affordable homage manufactures.. where are you when we need you?
Who cares about packaging?
Aviation Pilot watch? 38mm way too small. Needs to be 43mm++
Hey they also make it in 42 or going to be making in 42 This is really more of a everyday watch. By the way a little while ago I announced that you had one straps through a video that I did Did you ever get in contact with me I'm sorry I really don't remember
Knock off of Seiko Alpinist..
So basically a Khaki Field Automatic with a different skin at double the price.
Hamilton is overrated nowadays.
I love this watch and while I wish it had the small seconds of the larger model, it was thinking it would make a great replacement for my Khaki Field Mechanical 38. Hamilton says it is a 48-click bezel which makes me think they originally planned on it being a dual-time bezel but never updated the part when it was changed into a countdown bezel. Just wildly speculating.
They are in the price range of a Christopher Ward but the finish and details of a $3-400 dollar watch. Can get a nice CW63 with a top notch bracelet for less.🥱
But CW has no history and their branding is terrible keep changing the logo. Very bland designs
