I agree with everything except with the fact of the "resoleability" of the thorogoods, I have a very old pair that used in roofing, and REVIVE SHOE REPAIR did wonders on the resole. They actually feel like tanks with a leather midsole and the cristy sole he used. Excelent video by the way, unbiased opinion based on someone that uses the boots for work not fashion and agreed with nicks being built like tanks, took me a month to break them in.
Hey man, thanks for the comment, gotta see those rebuild boots, hars to find believe it or not, haven't seen many out there. I will check thr revive repair shop. 👌🏻
Just had my thorogoods resoled for the 2nd time. As long as you treat the leather of the boot and the welt isn’t split they resole them exactly the same as the red wings.
I use the 6" Thorogood moc (steel toe) at work. Mostly driving forklift and smacking the boots into pallets frequently. My heel on the outsole has definitely taken the most beating from a functionality standpoint out of everything. If Redwing made the 877 or 10877 with a steel toe I'd definitely get them. Are your green insoles the Spenco RX comforts? Nice comparison. All worth owning if they fit your needs.
The Spenco!!! Yes those are man! Totally forgot, I got home quite beat up from work 😅 was waiting for one cold to cool the brain. I hear you on the Redwings!🙌🏻 Gotta say Thorogood had a place for sure
This was VERY GOOD break down of the best boots for the money in exactly the environments you work in. I do roofing, so every boot leather will get destroyed. Thorogoods for me with toe cap.
I love Red Wing boots a lot. I have a few pairs of them. And for the most part? I believe they are about as durable a boot as I'd ever need. I am a field inspector for a roofing company. But I still have times where I put a whooping on my boots. That being said, I have a pair of White's and Nick's on the way. And I don't think the Red Wings are as robust as those two brands. Red Wing still makes a great boot yes. But White's, Nick's, Wesco, and Franks are about as overbuilt as you can possibly ask for as far as boots go. I'll always love my Red Wings. Very excited to see how much better the White's and Nick's I have coming are though. thanks for all the videos brotha. I do appreciate your perspective.
Thank you for passing here Chris! You can't go wrong with Nicks or Whites and yes, Redwing has its place for sure. I use them too :). Congratulations on your purchase

Same spot here, brother. Still, I use the Thorogoods, which are similar to carolinas, but far away Nicks in quality for sure. I love both and use them depending on the day, most of the time Nicks, of course! 😆
Great content here, Brother!!! The video really does a fantastic job addressing numerous questions Folks have about the different boot options available. Many times Folks just don't know what they want/ need to feel comfortable when they're not in bed. Thanks Brother!
Today I will choose the Perrry select with double shot leather. They have 20% off, and it's about Redwing price. Normally I will choose redwing over thorogood. Quality is very different
@@MIIIB yeah I’d have to agree and I’ve never owned a pair of Thorogoods. A lot of guys I work with say they love them, but I’m a RedWing 877 Classic 8 inch Moc person myself. I think a lot of people that complain about redwings dont get the right size and never get them properly broken in. Myself, I wear an 11 in a tennis shoe and have to have a 10 in a redwing. All about the correct size. I think people go for the Thorogood because of the little to no break in period. Yes the Redwing is stiff at first but mine never hurt my feet or felt as uncomfortable as some people say they are in the beginning. Like I said I think a lot of people get the right size and have a boot too big for them and that causes the problem.
Over time Nicks boots outlast the other two and end up being more comfortable. The four layers of midsole form to the foot and don't crumble as with cork.
I live about 20 minutes away from the Thorogood factory in Merrill so whenever I feel like I want a back up pair of boots to my red wings or I just want something in place of a resole, I head over to their outlet store and pick up a pair of factory seconds for $50-$95 a pair. My issue with Thorogood is I can never seem to get a perfect fit, they're either a bit loose, or they're overly tight depending on the width, and I've tried every size between a 9.5 and 10, you can literally try them on in the outlet and a steel toe pair wont fit the same as a soft toe. Still though, GREAT insoles. Can't complain about overall comfort, I just wish their widths were a bit more dialed in. Their D standard width feels a lot tighter than red wings. With red wing, I can guarantee that my size in an iron ranger will be the same size as another pair built on the same last, and you just don't get that kind of consistency with thorogood. It's really disappointing.
Oh man, that doesn't sound a bit disappointed. Well, in my opinion, I feel Thorogood like sneakers, really soft leather, but overly soft to the point that I can feel the laces, so it is a bit uncomfortable to use them all day; what I can say positively is that it feel like sneakers so maybe a 6" boot will be the better option. I'm not sure about the pull-on, I haven't tried those.
Out of the Red Wing price range i usually like Chippewas the most altough Red wing is great as well. Nothing compares to Nicks or Whites in my opinion. Theyre absolutely incredible. Still have to try wesco at some point.
Bro I just discovered your channel and I'm really happy to hear your insights and thoughts about high quality boots. Most of my collection are Red Wing heritage but it would be cool to save up for a pair of Nick's.

How was the break in on the Nicks? Have you applied any oil or conditioner or anything like that to them? I'm wondering if that color is original or is it darker from being oiled or something.
Yes I gave a bit of oil to the waterworks boot. Didn't change the color . No breaking oeriod for those babies, 1964 leather is pliable enough to be use instantly

Red Wings has none. I have a pair of Nicks on order (many many months wait) and a pair of JK on order (5 weeks wait). Well, in conclusion, you either go for the most expensive one you can afford with the best quality one for years , or just go for the cheapest that get the work done just for the day. YOU PAY WHAT YOU GET.
Ariat boots are beautiful but are completely garbage. If you work in them they just don't last. I thought the first pair I bought was a fluke but nope. The second pair fell apart in months too. I ordered nicks in the beginning of December and can't wait to see it they hold up to the hype.

I have to agree! They are very long lasting, the heritage line.
I'd love to buy a good pair of USA made Red Wings........ BUT............I need to wear composite safety shoes for work. Guess how many composite toe shoes are US made? Very, very few. Red Wings has none.
I have a pair of Nicks on order (many many months wait) and a pair of JK on order (5 weeks wait). Yes, they're more expensive, but I'm tired of being forced to buy crappy foreign made shoes for work.
I had a pair of 200$ redwing boots that were destroyed after 2 months of linewalking, I'll never buy another pair of redwing.
Heritage series or dont buy!!
Not sure what model since they have a loooooot but the ones made overseas are crap
@@MIIIB the heritage line are made here in the U.S.A.
@@jaypeeg.6510 Yeah! I know 💪🏻
Hahaha, two horses.
😆
I don’t think thorogood is better than danner. Maybe low end danners.
Maybe brother, I don't own Danners, but some friends do, Thank you for your input !! I should look at some high-end Danners.v
No.
And period.
Cheers 🥂 brother !
Well, in conclusion, you either go for the most expensive one you can afford with the best quality one for years , or just go for the cheapest that get the work done just for the day. YOU PAY WHAT YOU GET.
Yep. Basically
Great show but you need to spk better English sarry 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏💯💯🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for the tip! A bit normal when you speak 3 languages.
Ariat boots are beautiful but are completely garbage. If you work in them they just don't last. I thought the first pair I bought was a fluke but nope. The second pair fell apart in months too. I ordered nicks in the beginning of December and can't wait to see it they hold up to the hype.
Buddy, you will know the true work boot once you hold them in front of you. You will know 😌 right there. No turning back I can guarantee.
