Two small things : 1) Goodyear welted boots are easier and less expensive to resole. 2) You can resole a GY welted boot more times. You can also replace a welt when it wears out, ( more than once possibly) but when a stich down is worn out from resoling, it's toast.
Yeah but who's resoling a boot more than two or three times *really.* Esp when you've got more than one pair of boots. Like they'll still last a decade hey
@@Stridewise Hi Nick, I think the reasoning behind my initial comment may not have been clear. I guess for me it's situational. If I worked outdoors in the forest everyday and I knew I was going to obliterate my leather service boots over 5-8 years in different weather conditions, I would want a stitchdown construction. However, if I were someone who was buying a pair of shell cordovan boots with leather soles, and I wanted to be able to keep them for 20+ years, I would want a Goodyear welted construction for ease of resoling and being less likely to ruin the boots as quickly with resoling. Therefore I don't think it's as simple as claiming one is just better than the other. Elle
Not speaking from experience here but I've seen on some pnw stitch down boots, they have two layers of leather over the toebox. After too many resoles, they replace the front outer vamp piece and the stitch down holes are brand new again
@@StridewiseFor work boots it makes sense. I can wear through an outsole pretty easily in 2 summers of construction. So like 1 year straight of wear and I’d need a resole. If the upper is high quality I could see a nice pair of work boots getting resoled 3-4 times.
ey man happy to see another vid, I haven't been very up to date with your jacket going live but I feel as it's all giong to be awesome at the end. happy to see you are still hyped and happy.
Great video! Last fall I was looking for a nice pair of leather shoes that could replace sneakers for me for when I don't want to wear boots, something I could wear with shorts too. I found that Red Wing actually made a shoe version of this boot and they're fantastic! It's the same as the boot except it ends where the canvas begins. Love it! I found it a little narrow at first as well but they really broke in and are incredibly comfortable, just as much as sneakers
4:19 It's hotly debated whether stitchdown or Goodyear Welt is better and actually GYW is going to get you better water resistance most of the time. Stitchdown is usually (but not all the time) associated with cheaper-made footwear.
you should get yourself some rough and tough weekender chukka red wings. favourite summer shoe, it’s like an Alden unlined chukka slept with a Clarke desert boot and the quality rubbed off on it. Weekenders are basically r/mfa ‘s wet dream (10 years ago)
Hey Michael, I love your videos! As I'm from Germany and it gets much colder these days I'm just looking for some Beanies. Perhaps you could do a video about great Beanies for autumn winter? That would be great! Best wishes from Germany
“Otherwise I’ll just be blooobbbing and blooobbing.” Haha Dude, always great videos. And I’m pumped for you already catching the eyes of cool sponsors like MasterWorks. Well deserved. One day (lemme get my subs up)… let’s collab
Just some dumb clarification. SB Foot is the tannery that makes the majority (if not all?) leather for Red Wing. Also, while these aren't for me, I love the vintage look.
I have a pair of 11877s. Same boot as the 877. It's just a different color. They are amazing work boots. They are designed for iron workers. Not having a heel prevents you from tripping. They are also amazing on asphalt, concrete, or most flatter surfaces. In my opinion, they aren't great hiking/outdoor boots. The soles aren't that grippy on inclines or loose dirt. I have a pair of Daner Pronghorns for hiking. Honestly, if you wear 11877s for construction, ironwork, or some other trade, they are amazing. I would rather wear my Danner Pronghorns for hiking, hunting, etc.
I personally think these look great, they remind me of the WC Russell plantation series birdshooters that I'd love to get. The WC Russell is a true Moccasin construction though and I'm sure is a higher quality boot.
They're a great pair of boots. The only downside is the midsole is not leather. I love the honeywheat Vibram soles, they are a great color and definitely very durable. This video made me regret selling mine to my brother when he couldn't find a pair 😅 Also: it would be interesting to see you do a video about the older version of these, they're called the Wabasha and you can get used pairs for a decent price. Their construction is quite a bit different, I think you might like them better!
Great video! I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of 3335s but since they are rather hard to find now I’m not sure how to size them. Do you know how these fit compared to the 875s? Thank you!
I suggest you look into danner lights if you want a similar look with less leakage. The gore-tex helps, but it will still seep through eventually. Also leather and canvas boots aren't ugly, The look great and are usually so much comfier especially in hot weather.
Danner are definitely more hardy & work focused but I don't think is what he's going for. I think red wings look dorky but they are probably still more stylish than danner
@@Drownedinblood he's hardly hiking though is he? Nothing super strenuous anyway. Danner lights are so handsome though. Any other boots with similar look?
Hey Mike, is that a Zenith Chronomaster Revival you're rocking on your wrist? Wow, that's an expensive watch...if you have so much to spare, you're not that economically disadvantaged as you'd like to sound...are you? P.S. no offence intended, of course! Love your videos ;-) And those sunglasses are rad!

thats plain wrong stichdown is more common in the pricier range, good year welt starts below 200$
michael you are looking really great recently
Are they selling these again? I thought they were discontinued for awhile

Great video and you have me sold.
My only regret with these boots are not sizing wider

I got a pair, I'm assuming they got discontinued during the pandemic. You can find a on offer up or fb marketplace
They're cool
Are these made by red wing? I have the old wabasha which is similar but I think was made by rancourt. I definitely love the look.
I didn't know dj Qualls did a youtube channel.
Hilarious and informative, AKA perfect:)
I can't explain why this guy always immerse leather boots on water, probably he lives in a swamp
