You are incorrect about the keycaps. They can fit onto a Topre board!! I've put them onto my HHKB, however, there is slightly more wobble on some the keycaps and the tactility is greatly diminished. Question - have you thought of swapping the domes on a Topre board for the Domes in the Brothers board?
The keycaps from the Brother typewriters are actually compatible with Topre, I've seen people using them on a topre board. They don't fit as nicely as stock topre keycaps fit, or sound/feel as nice, but they do indeed work.
I found a few Xerox typewriters that appeared to use this switch. They were being scrapped, so I decided to take the keycaps for myself, since I didn't have room for the full typewriters. Fortunately, those caps use the same stem as Honeywell Microswitch SD switches, so I was able to find and 3D print a SD to MX adapter. I was going to do the same to an IBM Selectwriter, until I realized "Holy cow, these are actual buckling springs", and decided to keep the whole unit.
you like part counts? check out old siemens nixdorf KBs. you have a total of 5 parts, if you count the front with the key caps as one. carbon contact bubber domes, like in old game pads, and a singly foil PCB with a big fat rDIP chip on it. on the older ones, the stems of the key caps were made from acetal, and superbly smooth with no lubge. best rubber domes i know. (mine is broken, but no, you cant have it!)
Dome and foil is the same technology as most modern membrane keyboards today. The only thing that makes these different from garbage is the quality of the rubber and the slider.
This is incorrect. Modern keyboards operate with a set of three membranes, and are based on conductivity. These do not employ membranes at all, and are based on capacitance instead. Modern domes also don't use foil or foam. These switches are actually extremely unique, there's nothing else out there like it that I'm aware of.
Fair enough. Although I still think of them both as 'buckling rubber domes', but the capacitive vs conductive is a reasonable difference. I assume capacitive would allow a key to register before bottoming out?
Triple shot keycaps. Did they really didn't care as much about cost back then?
Things simply cost more back then, so they could afford to spend more on their manufacture ;) .

Learning how stuff works while listening to gods voice. This is what heaven is like.
Atari Guy rarely heard morgan freeman reviewing a keyboard
Complete Absence Of Light i dont think his voice can beat morgan tbh xD
I have bass boost and it makes your voice sound even better.

Are there tripleshot keycaps for matias/alp switches?
Look for Toshiba portable computers. Look like big 80s laptops.
When is the topre tear down coming?
Hmm...I do wonder if this mechanism is similar to the switches on a 80s Sears electric typewriter I have.
Could you please do a teardown of a model F buckling spring?
Very cool teardown, but the nasty condition of they key board almost made me vomit my morning coffee.
zijn deze domes beter dan btc domes ?, ik wou een dome swap doen, btw love your vids
De domes zijn niet uitwisselbaar.
ik denk wel dat ze in een btc foil and foam passen, ze gebruiken beide een zelfde soort systeem
And also the space bar has a spring
Did they ever make straight PC keyboards?
your my favorite YTuber :D keep doing mechanical keyboard videos bro
Thanks man :D .
you welcome, but i really like your channel :D, can i contact you on twitter
??
Alrrome 111 of course :)
do you have skype ??
The heck are dome and foil switches? I've never heard of them until today.
do you watch this channel?

Well... I'm an avid viewer of his content, l comment on his videos frequently, and I'm subscribed to him. No, of course I'm not.

can we get some sort of review or typing video of these? I've never seen them before
Yes, there will be a review with a typing demo... WAY down the line xD .
I just can't figure out what the intro voice or sound tries to say.
Should be cheaper than mechanical, but no, THEY ARE NOT! COST TWICE AS MUCH
The Brother Proto Topre might destroy Smith Corona Leaf Springs and burn it to the ground
And where is the typing test video?
I'm also waiting as well
Ich bin ein Keycap? :D
Something Danish, maybe?
@@TommyFenstermacher5150 that's German, dummkopf
9999 Subs
OMG That keyboard is so fucking gross!
