Yes, I'm aware Hackensack is spelled wrong in my subtitle.

I love these old movies. I eat a lot of meals alone in restaurants and I watch them on my smartphone. The fact they are silent is actually a bonus.

Thanks for not feeling the need to fill the silence with random music, which seems to happen a lot when people upload silent footage like this.

This all looks very familiar. I made that trip many times, mostly in the MUs. I remember the old cameras running out of film, changing reels and stopping to rewind. On one trip my father stuck his head in the engineer's cab and asked if us kids could ride with him and get a look at the tracks ahead. No problem. This was probably back in the late 50s or early 60s. Our whole family put a lot of miles behind us in the old Lackawanna electrics through DL&W, EL, Conrail and NJ Transit. Today many of the trailing cars have new life on tourist railroads so I get to ride in them again!

I moved to Millburn/Short Hills in 1979 while in High School. This really takes me back to that magical time. Road the line frequently until 1987 except while away at college

Most definitely a weekend, likely Sunday as the only departures on the board at Hoboken were on the Morristown line. Very interesting footage, rode Morris Plains to Hoboken as a kid and teen many times in the 70s and early 80s.

Quite a piece of history. Much of what you see here, including the MUs, would not have looked too much different had it been taken 40 years earlier.

I wonder if NJ Transit have considered reopening the Roseville Ave station. The neighborhood is slowly coming back but reopening the station open will def help.

Appears to be an earthquake happening on the entire trip.

Interesting to see the Harrison Station, which was removed to accommodate I-280.

The station stop was canceled in 1984. I'm not sure when the station building was removed.

Trains never stopped at Harrison very often. That was one of those mystery stops you wondered about when passing by.

Why did they stop using the station at Harrison NJ?

Just wondering I have 22-minute mark when they're leaving steam coming out by the tracks

I didn't see Morris Plains. It's right after Morristown.

I don't think its passing was filmed.

A few stops were missing Highland Ave Station, and S. Orange which today is pretty much the most popular station on the line.

@@a.b.sproductionsllc This reminds me of the conductor calling the station stops in the old MUs. No PA systems back then

Just stumbled upon this. Some very cool footage. I was either a few months old or a year old depending when in 1979 this was filmed. Will you be posting more ex-Lackawanna footage soon?

All else I have is some stuff at Waldwick and Ho-Ho-Kus that I should post from 1981. I need to post it.
