- Some Call of Duty games are just bad. While others are some of the best games ever made, responsible for cultivating communities, cultures and even modern media.
So here’s EVERY Call of Duty Multiplayer ranked WORST TO BEST From COD 4 Modern Warfare onwards.
The history of COD is polarising. It is the best selling video game franchise of all time with a new premium release every year. And not all of those releases can be good. In fact som are horrible but as mentioned. Some are amazing. Ranking all these game is essentially an impossible task as it is largely subjective. I have tried to remain unbias in making this list but it can be difficult at times to seperate the nostalgia from the game and in some instancs is an intergral part of what made the game the way it was. Let me know what you think of the list and my reasoning behind it!!

17 years is pretty insane! Bravo 👏 I've been playing since I was 12 or 13, since my parents wouldn't allow me to play M rated games until then. Started with mw3 and bo2, jumped to bo3 next and have played every cod yearly since then. Ww2 was actually one of my least favorite in the franchise so I went back to enjoy other cods I missed out on like aw, ghosts, bo1 and mw2(played the campaigns of bo1/mw2 since hackers plagued the MP at the time...)
I hope we get a mwr style bo1 remaster one day. Collections were such a good system in cod. I could see a really creative way to make a collections system that takes both classic bo1 style cod points and new paid for cod points to buy cosmetic gear. Since you need to be higher skill to earn cod points, not as many people will earn them so Activision can still make a profit while hardcore fans can feel rewarded
I've heard and seen lots of good things out of bo1 so I hope it gets a faithful remaster, not like the current mwiii remake of og mw2
Honestly WW2 was easily the cod I felt I missed the most on. In hindsight I probably was too bias on that pick and if anything that’s what I would change.
I hope we get a bo1 remaster as well!! I think of all the cods a remaster of that game might age the best. Knowing activision though they will probably continue to just remaster maps and guns until there’s another infinite warfare type situation where they’re forced to release a remaster to help with sales 🥲🥲

I felt a bit scummy for calling it all cod multiplayers and then not including those three. But “all cod multiplayers (except the first three)” doesn’t sound nearly as catchy lol.
I hadn’t played the first two and my memory of call of duty 3 is very limited. - being a video based on the community’s perceptions at the time I didn’t feel nearly confident enough to comment on those titles.
Similarly I think a lot of people in the community have only played 4 onwards.
It is something I could have done better in this video for sure though. I might have to go revisit them in the future!!

I feel that for me the getting a physical game in a box at midnight was the biggest thing, the waiting was what made the experience better. BO2 is the best definitely

MW3 2023 has the potential to make it in the top 2 in my list. It combines all the best parts of several cods. Re-masters the favorite maps from MW2, adds modes from MW3, BO2, and WW2. Has the weapon variety of MW2 and while also beating WW2 in total weapons. Doesn't go overboard with specialists like BO3 and IW went. And has a unique new way of including perks.
The reason why I think it can still climb is the aftermarket parts and season weapons added to tieback the weapons with OG COD games. Along with additional maps they're adding generic modes and modes like war.

why no mwr ranking? do u feel its too similar to cod4 to be justified as a separate ranking?
This is a great question. In hindsight I wish I did include it. Or at least mention why I didn’t, but I was concerned about video length. 2 main reasons for not including it though:
1. It initially released in a bundle with IW. I felt like this immediately locked it off for a large portion of the player base and meant a majority of the people who were getting it knew what to expect, and were also going to enjoy it regardless of quality purely because there was so much nostalgia there. (I definitely don’t think it was a bad game but that point is still true). This meant that while I do consider it a different game it is very difficult to seperate the two of them. This goes into my second reason:
It would have ranked very closely to the original, probably just behind it. Not only was it the same guns and maps but like i said, it’s extremely hard to seperate the nostalgia from the remaster. Especially given a majority of the people playing it were fond of the original.
- nor did I want to do either game a disservice by putting them together. Because they are different.
Weird because it’s probably in my top 3 personal favourites (I put a lot more time into it than the original) I’m guessing it’s one of yours as well since you asked this question?
@@Zebjely mwr is my all time favorite cod. i was too little to play multiplayer during the reign of the og cod4, so mwr had the nostalgic campaign but the multiplayer also occupied the same place in my heart as the og cod4 does for real old gen players. it’s easily my most played cod but due to it’s unusual circumstances im not surprised to see it left off of a lot of these kinds of lists. i was just curious as to what your take on the game was, your reasoning for leaving it out, or maybe if you’d just plain forgot about it. i am not surprised to hear that you loved the game like i did though (i am also a huge ww2 fan)

But I’m very happy you got to experience that game because it is iconic. And hearing you say all that makes me rethink my opinion that lot of the community would already have a based perception of it. Regardless it’s really nice to know that it’s loved even by people who didn’t play the original and I think shows how great those games were that with literally just updating the graphics they would be better than every cod game released in recent years

1) Modern Warfare 2 - The absolute chaos that is this game and the one that got me hooked into the franchise and was perfect at the time for my ADHD brain and is my most played game ever #360noscoping 😂
2) Black Ops - Had the best overall map selection than any COD ever to date, every one was perfect for balance. Like you mentioned a completely different feel to MW2 but I liked that as both games fitted what ever mood as I was in whether I’d want a more chilled gunfight or S&D or absolute chaos with Pavelow’s everywhere 😂 a very very close 2nd
3) Black Ops 2 - I know a lot of people preferred this to the first entry and I can see why hence me putting it just after. I still absolutely loved this game but BO1 holds a very special place in my heart, but this game was the PERFECT sequel.

Loved reading these. I feel the same way about bo1 if you couldn’t tell from the video lol. Although I’m willing to admit bo2 is OBJECTIVELY the best cod, bo1 was something amazing. The campaign and whole mood/setting of the game really resonated with me personally as well.
MW2 like you mentioned was just chaos lmaoo and really was revolutionary for gaming in general with midnight releases. The quickscoping/montage era. It’s a large reason RUclips is where it is today even
I find it interesting you have m2019 in the middle of the pack. Most people either love or hate it
I think for me when it came to MW2019 I was at a point where I had enough of the CoD entries leading up to it. I would play them casually here and there but nothing like the older titles, whether it was just the games themselves, combined with overdoing FPS games that I sort of went to Story games for quite a while. But again with age, MW2019 had the more mature tone to it which I was really fond of. They had Cyber Attack which is an amazing game mode as I played a lot of S&D on the older titles with friends and it just had that element of team playing again. There was just something that stood out more than majority of the titles (for me anyway) my only qualm with it was there was only a few maps I liked so I found myself only wanting to play only a handful of them. But again also where as I went quite a while through the PS4’s life cycle only playing SP games it was also refreshing. It was to me a mature version of CoD like Battlefield is (which I also used to love) .. Modern setting which as I loved MW1 and MW2 but it also had that more balanced feel of BO1 too, plus the campaign was a breath of fresh air 😁
naa blops four should for sure b ranked above any post modern safespace 2019 cod . jus bc it kept core cod staples . blops 4 wasn’t great but it was the last cod that still had tht cod feel to it sorta
like atleast lobbies stayed together in bo4 , streaks still put in work etc . bo4 was still not it but i appreciate it for certain things.
The thing with infinite Warfare what you got discus is very untrue ace did breakdown at the start of February we've seen more and more people playing infinite Warfare over Call of Duty 4 what supports this claim even further back when they did the separation to buy Call of Duty 4 the number didn't even change all that much and what's also interesting when you go back to the leaderboards you see more people who played infinite Warfare at this time and people purchasing map packs another problem I have what you said is that infinite Warfare definitely improve a lot of the problematic problems and bo3 the main Contender for this what's the supply drop system and the movement penalty you got for using the movement system without using a perk on top of having Superior air movement and having a less shaky screen on top of it so I don't know a lot of things are wrong that you listed.
Vanguard could have been a very good WWII game if SHGames made it grounded in the reality of the WWII era. Grounded doesn't mean realistic, but at least make it feel immersive. MW19 for sure felt immersive. I just hate how COD dropped being COD and is just focused on crossovers and bundles that have nothing to do with the game itself.
Vanguard had a much better pace than MW19 while also using the same engine and gameplay.
Call of Duty games are just not memorable anymore because of it. MW19 despite having a very slow paced multiplayer feels a lot more memorable because of how they delivered the theme.
I've been playing cod since original CoD (2003), even demo lol. MW2019 is the worst cod ever, it is so bad I don't consider it to be even cod game due to core design choices made by those idiots at IW.
Im happy you said this and definitely agree with you for the most part. Mw2019 is easily the least amount of time I’ve spent in a cod game. But it’s definitely popular (even if it was because of everything I mentioned)

That said, while I do own bo1 and mw2(og), I don't think I have enough play time in those games so I'd rather just not rank them(they were high on your list so I thought I'd mention this).
Infinite Warfare imo is the most egregious on your list but also understandable since your going off of the vocal community's perception of it. If bo2 had the same reveal trailer problem with it, 4mil dislikes, would that have made bo2 a bad cod? Just because it had a futuristic setting?
I actually really did enjoy infinite warfare from what I played as well but I spent a lot more time on MWR that year. I also recall RUclips views in general for every creator being significantly more poor if they made infinite warfare related content.
Just didn’t seem like that’s what the community wanted at the time. Which is sad because I can see the appeal and like I said if it was the first advanced movement cod to release it absolutely could have been a lot more positively revered imo. I’m still surprised it was your favourite though. Is there any particular reason for that?
Very good point about the BO2 reveal as well. I suppose my point was that it was doomed from day 1. RUclips dislikes does not necessarily correlate to quality of the game but it does provide and indication of how many people were willing to accept it. BO2 once it released was able to overcome the communities negative viewpoints. I had totally forgotten about how no one at that time wanted a futuristic cod either though!! Interesting to think about.
@@Zebjely infinite warfare imo has always been what I like to call "the best of advanced movement cods" call of duty game. Aw streaks had variants, iw streaks also have variants. Bo3 had a better jetpack system, iw refined it. Bo3 had pick 10, iw had a pick 10. Bo3 had hero gear, iw had its own hero gear based on the mastery camos and even mission team rewards. Aw had a ground slam ability, iw made that into a trait.
That said, iw had a lot of innovation too that went unnoticed because bo3 players saw something similar and called it a copy in iw. Specialists vs Rigs for example. Bo3's were very strong and op(not as bad as bo4, but still strong), while infinite warfare rigs are a lot less lethal(not a whole lot better than default guns), they offer more new weapons/abilities than bo3 had(few are actually reused), and they had an extra trait(aka a free perk) per rig you can chose from(bo3 didn't have that at all).
Then there's also brand new innovations that are criminally underrated like Mission Teams, Prestige Rewards and incentives(you get actual guns in iw for prestiging), and collections were first introduced in cod iw. Lots of the tactical and lethal grenades are new for its time.
There was lots to enjoy, lots of things that rewarded you for playing and being good at the game. Every gun had so much personality(like you explained when talking about bo1 guns, everything feels like it has a role). There wasn't even a 24/7 grind map so players could feel more awarded when unlocking the mastery camo Black Sky, there was actual status when you see someone using it.
@@Mattsuki Absolutely agree progression is lost in modern cod games so it was awesome that IW had prestige rewards (and even prestige in general). And there were a lot of cool prototype weapons that if I recall correctly weren’t actually too difficult to get through the armoury system as it was quite similar to WW2. IW was definitely hard done by to extent because it did play and feel very nice. There’s something about those pre-cod 2019 engines I also like a lot more personally.
I would have to argue against rigs though in that I felt they were all very similar and the lack of power made them more insignificant. While bo3 specialists could be frustrating I felt they were all extremely identifiable even for casual players.
Your points are making me feel like I put infinite warfare too low now 😭🤣 especially because I did actually like it, I just spent far more time on MWR

Great vid, my only disagreement would be that mw2 was a big step down from mw1 2019, I genuinely felt they’re idea of making cod so realistic is where they create so many flaws for us regular players. Keep up the great work :)
I understand that criticism. I think I spent a bit too long criticising mw2019 and justifying why I put it so low as well. And while I still agree with those points it would have been nice to talk longer about what made it so successful.

I love waw but think you’re being blinded by nostalgia here, or you just don’t like cw.
Waw net coding and hit registration was terrible even for the time. Everyone used the mp40. Seelow was a map that existed. And like I said it was a copy and paste or mw.
I’ll be the first to say I loved world at war multiplayer. It still ranked high. But definitely don’t think it did much to warrant being higher than cw. I could be wrong but you’d have to convince me otherwise
@@Zebjely"nostalgia" i didn't play waw as a kid so i cant really put that in, "everyone uses the mp40" everyone uses meta in every cod ,you put cod4 on top 5 but that game is a m16 simulator, plus on pc the mp40 was nerfed, and cw has way worse balancing like the tec9 and that other gun from season 2 and there's no reason to not run dead silence and ghost, "its a copy paste from cod4" yeah its similar to cod 4 but cw was trying to be like mw2019 and failed miserably. cw was one of the cod mp's ever, there was nothing standout about it except it had a terrible killstreak system
Bo2 is every 2000s baby’s favorite but in reality og mw2 is the best sorry young in’s you didn’t get to experience it
This was a really good ranking in my opinion. However, strangely enough, I actually really enjoyed the Modern Warfare 2019 MP. Idk if it's the 2019 nostalgia speaking for me here, but it just felt like a really fluid experience for me, and even though I played the game a lot, the SBMM wasn't nearly as aggresive as MWII's SBMM.
Honestly yea. I feel bad because I spent a lot of time flaming it and almost made it sound like you can’t enjoy it if you’re good at the game which isn’t true at all. I just felt the need to justify why I put it so low.
It did a lot of things right. And if you like the new engine mw2019 really introduced us to that new style of gameplay

I appreciate that, and agree with you. I feel like there was such a significant quality increase in games from 6 onwards. I would probably drop bo3 before removing cod 4 out of a top 5 though. That would just feel disrespectful

You lost me at MW2019 being ranked so low. That is the best COD of all time and the reason so many COD players came back to the franchise. Its laughable you ranked it one ahead of infinite warfare. Is that supposed to be a joke?
Just because the game looks good doesn't mean it plays well
