    Death grips concert veteran here. They are insane and they do put everything into their performances. Not even talking about the crazy shit they do. You can tell they care because they didnt stop playing music, they were dedicated to maintaining a constant flow of entertainment. It was an hour and a half of constantly being noided. Thats what i tell people about when i talk about that experience. It blew me away the most.

    I actually really like "Hot Head". The song is genius because it's totally nonsensical at first but then becomes this awesome and totally chill reggae song.
    You have to sit through the "Bla bla bla bla, Oh no" chops to get to the good part. That's exactly what the album "Bottomless Pit" is all about. It's like a pile of garbage that has gems in it.
    That's the best way to describe it, really.

      You don’t have to be. All it takes is being OK with music to touch you in places that you maybe uncomfortable with. just allow it to take you to a place you’ve never been. This not just with deathgrips. This is with any band that puts emotion into their music. Death grips is like a horror movie of music.

    You know, I think it’s interesting: Most folks I’ve met who come to Death Grips from a hip-hop background find them overwhelming or maybe a bit too intense at first, before eventually coming around. On the other hand, noise/experimental, metal, and punk folks I know have seemed pretty open to them at first. They might sound FANTASTIC, but not necessarily shocking or particularly intense, at least from what I’ve encountered, to those audiences.

    • @philp521
      @philp521 4 года назад +1

      yeeboii I think the way they’ve merged hip hop and noise/industrial and metal and all of that was definitely new ground, but I also don’t think it’s on some new frontier of abrasiveness or intensity (except in hip hop). It’s just really damn good at being what it is.

    This was a really incredible intro to Death Grips. I have to say though, I find the More Than The Fairy video the most unsettling. Something about Ride's low growl, Les' frantic bass riffing, and the flashing banana on a cord all combine to make the perfect fever dream.

    It’s weird how much your impression can change. The first time I heard them I thought it was just a bunch of white noise and screaming, but after a few listens to their albums I started ”understanding” it. It actually started sounding like a good song with great melodies, amazing drums, catchy verses and hooks and an overall hype and intense sound.

    I am so torn because I recently discovered "I've seen fottage" and I can't stop listening to it. It's such a badass song, I love the lyrics and the feeling they convey and the badass e-guitar or whatever creates that drive throughout the song. I've listened to their other songs multiple times now but I just can't make it work for me. It's not that I dislike the mostly chaotic tracks but there is just this drive missing that "I've seenfottage" gives me. I dunno if this makes any sense tho...

      Yeah, you like hooks and steady beats. There's nothing at all wrong with that, Nirvana are an excellent band and a lot of their melodies are pop. Nobody has to like death grips and liking death grips doesn't mean you like music more than someone who doesn't. If you like angry music that is smart and also catchy maybe try the clash.

      @@nikfs5620 no worries. Hope you like them. Their last album is trash and there aren't any hip hop elements like in death grips but they are clever, catchy and moderately angry. If you want some catchier hip hop stuff that is still angry you could try clipping or run the jewels (who you probably already know). Good luck finding music you like bud.

    To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Death Grips. The music is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the lyrics will go over a typical listeners head. There’s also MC Rides’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realise that they’re not just angery- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Death Grips truly ARE idiots.

    • @Metalhiram
      @Metalhiram 6 лет назад +5

      Ultra Nyan hahaha your comment sounds funny to start but I definitely agree with you, people already don't pay attention to lyrics and meaning but alot of death grips songs are deep and need certain amount of life experience to understand where he's emotion is coming from

    I became a fan pretty much on the spot at a death grips concert. My friends were into them and I had heard a few songs and thought they were a bit too much so just never got into it. Well I got a bit of fomo and had money left over so I went and saw them with my friends anyway. I was blown away. I have been to over 100 concerts with mostly rock and metal artists at that point and I had never seen anything like death grips. I've never seen an audience go so fucking hard. It was amazing. Amazing energy. A dude broke his arm in the moshpit even. Theyre giving slayer concerts a run for their money. And the audience was so diverse tastewise. Metalheads, punkrockers, hip hop dudes, hipster kids, you name it. After that I was hooked and could not stop listening. Everyone should give death grips an honest try.

    First heard about Death Grips in college. Was a fan of Antoine Fantoine. Hadn't seen his old Death Grips reviews and he posts a video on Bottomless Pit. Gives it a 9/10. I saw it was experimental hip hop, and I'd been listening to MF Doom, MC Paul Barman, Kendrick, Open Mike, Danny Brown... quite a bit of lyrical hip hop. I'd been an 80's punk/thrash/shoegaze fan in high school, so I thought I understood abrasive music. Listened to Bottomless Pit the first time... *WHAT THE F$CK IS THIS* . I think on my first listen I could only even begin grasping 'Eh'. Everything else was un-listenable. I've gotten more into them now, but even on what in retrospect is their most 'pop-y' album, Death Grips is like a brick wall.
