Gordon Ryan is by far the richest jiu jitsu athlete. However, when it comes to guard passing he is not greedy. He does not take more than he should, he just takes enough. Too many of us criticize Gordon Ryan for being greedy, yet his jiu jitsu is the least greedy of all.

This is a 1) minor sport/martial art's 2) second best 3) sport team's 4) random rolling footage, with a focus on the 5) background player's beautifully executed 6) minor positional play. Evening, dove. I commented last time on my success passing knee shield where someone demanded that take out a recorder to document. Sorry not my thing. BUT i will say that i recently came across a video that bore a resemblance to my methods. It was a Renzo Gracie video. He almost literally just steps through(not out of) it. Its the closest ive seem to my approach. The interesting thing i see with many of these popular methods is that they all seem not to address the opposition's base. The method shown by Renzo tips/tilts the opposition's guard. It puts you in a high smash pass position or a stack a high stack pass position. My groin is better now so i will go to some open mats at Integracio ATX, and 10 plt over the next couple months and ill update on the progress/results👍
b team might be looked at as second best but it is ridiculous to act as if that is all they are. It is a gym full of top level champions who just don't happen to like gordon ryan who is the best. It is totally reasonable to expect them to be the world's best gym in one or two years for a continuous period of maybe five or ten years. Might not happen, but don't go overboard relying on the name of the gym which is literally a frickin joke anyway.

Rather than thinking about it as not being selfish, I conceive of it as the best guard passers are a little bit sadistic. They like to leave their opponents in a twisted up position a little bit longer before they execute the pass. The most satisfying pass for me is when the guy just gives up all resistance and essentially says, "here, this is too miserable, just take it."

Good video......this is exactly what I've been working on. I have little to no problem passing the knee shield ( as a BB) because of the amount of weight distribution and pressure. Without neither you'll get exactly what you seen in these videos.......loose passing. The guys I roll with are forced to carry my weight.......learned this from rickson ( not personally) apply directional pressure when you pass and you will gas your opponent.

Can I please make a request to cover half butterfly passing at some point ? I feel like this is a tricky position and needs a lot of different movement for the passer at times, with two different tactics from intial half butterfly and chest to chest butterfly

I train gi exclusively (boooooo) and use a lot of the same concepts from Headquarters. I find the longer you continue changing directions between smash/leg drag and knee cut/chest to chest to achieve small victories, the more frequently you pass. And I think there are 2 big reasons that you left out. 1) each time you change direction, it's on your own volition which means you'll be a step ahead of the guard player. So as long as you don't make a mistake, you can gain an inch each time you do it. Every change of direction, inversely is an opportunity for you opponent to make a mistake.
2) playing guard against a pressure game that constantly moves side to side is exhausting. Passing with pressure side to side is actually a pretty good way to conserve energy. So you end up with a massive gas tank asymmetry between you and your partner which grows quickly when you force them to constantly change side with your weight. Tainan Dalpra is a master of this.

I think a better way to look at it is you must control the hips or the head, so if you find yourself in side control top but you dont control either, it is better to drop back to the hips and work back up to the head from 1/2 guard.

Sooo weird. I am just starting half guard. Started yesterday actually. That's is whats next on my curriculum. I use specific drills for whatever move we are on during starting off with sweeps, from there move onto attacks, then passes. They'll see chains as we go but I still teach chains at the end of the curriculum of whatever positions we are on. Soo yayyyy half gward

I find passing guard is getting more and more difficult to complete. I just started forcing top 1/2 guard and working from there. Yesterday we actually started doing some drills forcing the top 1/2 guard. Over the last year or so I have been working with top and bottom 1/2 guard and ether position is probably my best position. Yesterday my trading partner did a lockdown on my leg and almost made it too difficult to remove that leg. I tend to not waist my time pulling my leg out of 1/2 guard and just grab a Kimora. That typically gives me the reaction I need to pass.

Yeah it is currently sold out. Because it is my first instructional, I wanted to be sure to get out the bugs and make sure people are getting results before I release it to everyone. I am currently making some changes to the course based on feedback I have gotten and will re-release it in a couple of weeks with no limitations on qty
