I had gotten back my 98 rm250 after it was stolen. It was missing for 12yrs. Got it back as a basket case. I've been slowly rebuilding it for 3 yrs now. It actually took me 3 yrs to find a new expansion chamber for the bike.
Nothing beats the feeling of hearing the motor run and going threw the gears after having cases split I been rebuilding motor for 30yrs and even tho u don't question ur work if u know what ur doing there is always still margin for error with all the little parts completing a engine especially the transmissions
Most of the time I don't even take the transmission apart I just take aluminum foil and cover it and tape it up and keep it all together and just replace the crank in the seals
I loved watching this build. The bike looks beautiful. I raced one in 1989 and it brings back memories. During lockdown in 2020, my son and I did a frame off on a 1991 RM125. It was his senior year of High School and it was his graduation present. These bikes were very competitive wining MXGP Championships with Donnie Schmitt and Stephan Everts. They were also extremely successful in Supercross and also US Nationals with Guy Cooper winning the 1991 title.
Suzuki dirtbikes are always excellent! Old ones or new ones. Have a sweet 06 RM85 & 05 RM65 in garage my son enjoys. I ride a Yamaha YFZ450R & Raptor 700R-SE sport quads. 👍🏻💯 -Ohio
Outstanding Work!! This is what I should be doing. I have the skills. I have a ton of tools. I’ve worked on a ton of bikes. But I’ve never done a complete build. I really don’t have the scratch to spare. No matter. You guys did a fantastic job. These are the bikes from my generation. The Golden Age of MX/SX.
Looks like a bike Ronnie Tichnor , Guy Gooper or Buddy Antunez would be out ripping around on back in the day. Awesome. Brings back some memories for sure!
Such a beautiful bike. When I do any kind of sticker applying I always get a heat gun or a hair dryer to heat up the sticky surface. So when it’s put down and it gets cold it will stick to those plastics forever.
I use to uncrate those bikes New, I believe they had a sticker on them "Slingshot" for the case reed induction. it was my job to set them up and get em running. I worked at a place called Inland Empire Suzuki, Kawasaki as a service tech back in the day. Brings back memories. You guys did beautiful job.
Who ever spent 20k on that bike needs some serious life lessons. Love watching the channel and I know you know that but the guys crazy. When it’s a dream bike it’s more like a factory bike that you could never get your hands on in that case it would be fine but to get the frame done get the whole bike vapour blasted and not to many after market parts it’s crazy
@@johnberry2877 he got them covid tax prices but I doubt that’s how much they spent as I watched the video and they probably put that price so it gets more view but if they did spent more then 10k he needs help
Doing this all yourself, it doesn't actually need a ton of money thrown at it. Sticking with stock parts, cleaning up stuff up, painting or cerakoting yourself you'd be around 3k US all in. He definitely spent a bit more upgrading it, didn't do everything himself, and the wheels and tank probably cost a fair bit. Definitely a nice bike, clearly did a good job choosing what parts to spend money on and what parts to clean up and save money on. A lot of guys blow 20k on restorations and end up with bikes that are worse than the guys who spent time cleaning things up to save money for upgrades,
All of the older bikes are built like a tank. I know some people who have snapped cases and frames and everything. But I haven’t heard of much of that especially from the older bikes
excellent production, thanks! I spent the last 2 years fully restoring a crate 1985 CR250. Exact bike I raced pro when I was 22 years old. It's funny watching others build the old bikes and comment, I'm like, yep, yep, yep. I also went Race Tech for the suspension and bought powder coat equipment and did that myself as well as the Harbor freight blast cabinet that I converted to also vapor blast. Probably have about $4500 in it and at least 500 hours of time, brand new everything. Not sure what I could sell it for. People that see it are amazed, it looks like a showroom bike. I've had it out a few times to jet the 38PWK Air Stryker and it rips!
Jay / Michael, you two knocked it out of the park!!! Jay your comments of emotions were right on the mark. I couldn't look away while watching it. One of my favorite bikes was the 91-96 RMX. I would sure like to have a brand new one like that now. Great video.
I’m building this exact bike right now, and to see what can be done with this platform is amazing going into such detail is truly impressive. I only wish I had that much cash to throw at it 😁!
some cases like the 92 - 01 cr250 cases actually have spots for a screwdriver to pry the cases apart. Mine were so stuck though I ended up using a case splitter and a c clamp to pop the tight side out
First off, I absolutely love videos like this with the tech narration because they remind me of a lot and I learn a lot so please keep putting out videos like this! 👏 Question: Was he greasing the inside AND the OUTSIDE of the new engine seals as he was installing them? I was thinking if you greased the outside you might take a chance on spinning a seal at some point. Am I wrong about that?

As for the kick start.....LOAD the starter instead slamming the gears......treat your bike right and it will serve you well for years.
Vapor blastinh looks so damn good but man its so hard to keep it clean idk what its changing with the metal but it makes it so the metal stains very very easy and is a mofo to keep it spotless
God that engine just looks so damn sexy 😍!!! Minus the lectron because Air Stryker is where its at or a smart carb if you wanna spend the money but lectron nope not that junk lectrons cut the life of the top end in half

Dang shes a beauty! Id like to see the tip of that seat softened to match the metal tank as it peaks over, but geez what a nice job!
That tool you mentioned is the install tool for rivet nuts. Handy but you can get by in a pinch with a bolt and two nuts to press them in!

Sweet bike rack, good for space.
Those magnesium flywheel cover on these bikes all have taking there beating . Glad I’m not the only one who’s had to repair one lol
How’d you repair it, I have this problem on my 92’

2 strokes are art, too bad CA hates everything. This is art nonetheless, an updated RM-125 that came out lovely.
Wow this was insane. Super co to see how it became the coolest bike. 😊
