That wooden frame to hold the motor case is genius. Just saved me a couple hundred bucks! I almost bought an engine stand for my upcoming yz 250 rebuild! Thank you
I stopped freezing bearings to drop into hot cases because the bearing only shrinks about .0001", and the cold bearing will suck the heat out of the cases causing the bore to shrink on the bearing faster, especially if it is crooked. Not freezing the bearing gives you more time to drop the bearing in a hot hole. Also, before you put in the shafts, you can heat the cases in an over no higher than 350 deg F., and drop all new bearings in the cases. If you start them off straight enough, you can actually hear them hit bottom. But you usually end up tapping some to the bottom of the bore as you burn your fingers on the hot cases. :) I bought a little over for the shop.
Some times those gears bind on test run because you need both case halves for stability to whoever maybe wondering or having that issue. You may also have to center the crank is the cases with a filler gauge and rubber mallet, the crankshaft may not roll smoothly with new bearing but thus comes the heat cycle to break the engine in. Yamaha shift forks make this job harder than it should be because they are one solid peice unlike Suzuki.
Bearings should roll smoothly, even when new. There is not break in process for bearings, only a break down process. In fact, I am willing to bet there is no real need for a a heat cycle or any other type of break in process for 2-stroke engines. If put smaller gas 2-stroke engines on my dyno, and beat the living tar out of them right out of the box after being jetted. All I want to do is get the ring seated to the cylinder wall all the way around in as short of time as possible, and that means high cylinder pressures to do that, (where the most torque is at). Out of the 10's of thousands of engines and top end kits I have built, (with good detail), I have never had an engine failure due to a improper break in. If your new bearings are binding, something is not put together correctly.
I'm sure Brad knows this but using an extension to the torque wrench like that changes the torque values and they need to be recalculated. If putting the extension perpendicular to the wrench you don't have to bother with that since the effective length is not altered.
Great video it's amazing how well Brad builds engines I've learnt so much by watching your videos thanks so much for the tutorials I've stripped and re built engines on my bikes by watching your videos so would like to say a big thanks for that 👍 keep the videos coming in I really really enjoy watching them nice 1 😉
Yes. Brad is a Master Rebuilder. I would much rather hear his comments and the sound of his electric driver then have shit kicker music at a high level in the foreground.
Brad and I have something in common. I've been doing engines for many years and still do even after got hurt racing in 20'. In wheelchair now got paralyzed from stomach down, happy I can still do them every day tho 🏁

Man nice work on the rebuild and you used one of my favorite tools, the Motion Pro wrench for the cylinder!! You have to build it right and you knocked it out of the park!!
No crank puller... No oven.. No center gaskets.. Not used to this coming from CR250s! Where do you get a slug to heat transfer? I want to try this on my next rebuild.
only thing I saw the torq wrench used was cylinder head and cap. I guess if you've done it a lot you can go by feel or know the impact at low setting is sufficient like for the clutch basket
Hey I just enjoyed this video….. I have a problem finding a full rebuild kit for my 1997 YZ250 to include a new crank assembly. Can you point me in a direction, or vendor, or even a part number(s)? I appreciate you both!
I stumbled across this video yesterday, although I have watched quite a number of videos from Jay. I would just like to say that I think this is probably the best engine rebuild vid that I've seen! It's absolutely superb! A wee quick question as I'm going to be starting project YZ 250 build, after vapour blasting the engine cases etc. what do you use to protect them against corrosion? Brilliant video, keep up the great work! Scott
I have heard you say that you use scrubbing bubbles to clean bikes with. Well, I took your advice and used the stuff on 2 YZ 85 engines and it made the bearings rust almost immediately and white powdery corrosion on the aluminum. Can you respond as to why this happened?
Comedy from beginning to end 🤣🤣 No torque wrench used anywhere ... Beat seals in with a hammer Installs brand new Hinson basket and pressure plate , stock clapped out clutch hub
Just some constructive criticism. Drop the music. 1 it’s not good. 2 I zoned out because it’s worthless to learn anything while ff. Let the guy talk and explain what’s going on, even if he has to do voice over after the fact in post.

Some people just have an ability to make a complex job look so easy. Just goes to show how good Brad is.
i’m planning on doing this soon. definitely seems easy enough lol
Love watching Brad's work. Especially when he carries a couple of coattails.
Always a pleasure watching Brad put an engine together..
Man he is good. Pretty sure I could watch him rebuild engines all day. I can only wish I could rebuild motors.
Was an honour watching this. Credit to your work

Crazy how great that motor looks after the vapor blasting. Great job Brad!
Fast forward through the music, and it starts again. Glad I could build my own engines. Enough for me.
I don’t trust many people to work on my bikes . I would let that guy work on them . Awesome job man , great wrenching and fantastic video .
The music is so loud (albeit it’s good music praise God). Awesome video Gentleman thank you for sharing your knowledge with us
I cant stop watch these rebuilds :)
Best video I ever watched! I would love to see a full video!! Like to see the struggle and triumph!! GREAT JOB!
Man, he is a artist. I just dropped my 2015 off for full rebuild at my local shop this morning. I wish Brad could do it. I'm in TX
Maaaan I could do that engine. These yz’s are easy peazy

Nice! Awesome video thanks for a detailed walkthrough
hey Jay , long time brother , looking good old friend ..... Dave Harryman
The music kinda ruined the video for me, was way too loud.
It also skips over a lot of build detail. I wouldn't call this a how-to video or at least I wouldn't attempt a rebuild from this video.

How come no centre gasket for the case half’s? I always thought you use a silicone sealer with a gasket but maybe I’m wrong
Yam don’t use a crank case gasket, they use either yamabond or threebond

What about the shifter rod????
Christ is King. Amen. (Noticed the Christian music)
Amen! All Glory to the risen King!
Amen!
Is that with 8hp more?
Good job except lubing the piston and cylinder. Always best dry.
No torquing?
does anyone know what those wrenches he was using with the toque wrench are called?
A cheaper product then blue locate is ordinary nail polish 😉
Will you teach me everything 😢❤😢
Uhm one scene the shifter rod isn’t on there with the block together then 5 mins later it’s on there
Hello sir where to check the frame number? Which web site?
One of the easiest engines to build but that transmission can be a sumbitch!!!
You post whole assembly video with no speed up and no music.. like an alternate version..
I wish the music was off
Why vertex? Wiseco are better in my opinión!! Wiseco single ring is Top!!
torque wrench no longer used
not if you know what you are doing, no need for one
lolol, same. Funny how bikes are never newer than what they say. lolol
Also, I like the little wood stand for the motor. Simple but practical.
Looks like there’s a crack on the bottom of the case
