  • Welcome to another trip report! On April 29, I flew from Ottawa to Iqaluit and back only to film. Canadian North isn't a very known airline, thus why I flew them. They operate in Northern Canada, connecting rural communities to hubs in Iqaluit and Yellowknife along with southern gateways in Edmonton and Ottawa. Their main competitor is First Air, a similar airline that I booked to return to Ottawa.
I flew into Ottawa the night before on United Airlines, and I stupidly decided to stay the night in the airport instead of a hotel. Canadian North had a computer issue, causing us to be delayed over an hour, causing me to miss my connection on First Air (I was almost stranded in Iqaluit). The Canadian North experience was exceptional. The seats could have been better, but the friendly crew and tasty service made up for it.
I would like to thank Frank Reardon, I recommend following his Instagram @frankreardonphotos, he posts fantastic photos of aircraft and scenery up in Iqaluit. Another big thanks to Brent and Dianna Crooks for offering me a place to stay the night if I missed my flight.
P.S. I recommend you follow my Instagram account @quintinsoloviev. I upload photos and videos of my trips as they happen!

Excellent video of Canadian North service to Iqaluit. I am a commercial aircraft enthusiast also. I had the good fortune of flying up to Resolute Bay, then in the NWT, now Nunavut, in late August of 1988 from Edmonton. This brings back so many wonderful memories of flying in the High Arctic. I flew Air Canada from Chicago to Edmonton with a change in Winnipeg. Overnighted in YEG and then took a Canadian Airlines International Boeing 737 200 Combi (still in old Pacific Western colors) to Resolute with stops in Yellowknife and Cambridge Bay. We stayed in YRB for 3 nights and flew back the same route. What an incredible experience!! It is now going on 31 years since I made this trip. I would so love to do it again. If only I had the great video cameras of today to have recorded it. I do have it on an old VHS tape which I cherish to this day. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful trip to Iqaluit. It was just like being there with you.

This Q re-view is brought to you by jus de tomate. Been a while since I first saw this video and I forgot just how wonderful it is. very well photographed from start to finish, and a teddy bear that just about steals the show. And of course the obligatory put your camera away but we know how that ended. Well done Quebec Foxtrot Sierra and thanks for sharing!!!

Just discovered your videos. They’re awesome. I’ve been to YFB several times myself. Too bad you didn’t get to spend the night in Iqaluit. It’s a completely different part of Canada that very few Canadians will ever visit.

I know this is an older report, but I really love the sound of the flap actuators. It feels silly that I miss it on the newer 737 aircraft, but that sound was an integral part of the flying experience when I was little.

Agreed. Major flashbacks to my first flights when I was barely old enough to remember the experience. I can remember that exact sound, but I didn’t know what it was at that time. All I knew was that it meant the flight was almost over.

you must have gotten to YOW at O-dark hundred......nice shots at the airport....do like the new colors (black tail with red maple leaf)....your sound is magnificent ...with my Bose headset, I could enjoy ALL the sounds kinda like Binaural 3D clarity ....how much drag is that loose strip creating...great watching the triple/slotted flaps in operation.....Fowler design..... cups did have a frosty look to them ...wonder why the "no camera" issue......top secret...haha....ATR had early issues with wing icing/deicing boots....SILVER Airways is getting them....how long did you have to stay at YFB.....great vid Quintin

Probably a security alarm on a gate door out to the field, actually. In most airports, I’ve noticed that they sound like that, despite that “temporal 3” code pattern being standard for most fire alarm systems in the 21st century. Often, an employee forgets to enter the code. About half the time I fly I hear one go off.
