I would have recommended either the Tokyo Dome or Legend S performances. Su's voice (and Su herself) needed time to mature to be able to properly perform this song. Something she's even said herself. They had this song available for the first album and did not use if for this reason. When she talks about the difference of then and now, she says she was just trying to get the lyrics right in those days. Now she "feels" them and tries to portray that feeling in her performance. You would not have made it through those versions dry eyed, so try it on your time for your own enjoyment. Legend S, when she's singing "We shall never meet again but I want not to forget you forever" Mikio is shown as an almost ghostly figure. Mikio is the guitar player that passed away early last year.
The song is about no matter how dark it is, there is always something good on the other side. You can't have happiness without sadness. You can't have light without dark. There is no rainbow without rain.

    ⚡ / ☂️ 🌈
The guitarist on the left, Leda Cygnus is credited with the arrangement of this song.
Beautiful as this version was with a 16 year old Su, she topped it at Tokyo Dome when she was 18.
As many folks have mentioned, she performed the best version so far at 'Legend S' in her home prefecture of Hiroshima to celebrate her 20th birthday.
'No Rain, No Rainbow' is a rarity. Even though it had its debut in 2013, it's only been performed five times, and never outside of Japan.

Yes, several stunning performances of NRNR, but this Budokan version is the one I keep returning to. Especially with the intro video and following with Akatsuki. I refer to it as "The Girl who bears the Cross named Despair" Suite. And much as everything they do got better. I still consider this Budokan suite a masterpiece. Rick Wagner-sensei can I say that after all this time I have only just noticed the emojis that head each post tell the story of the song being discussed. that...that is just amazing lol!

    • @rickwagner-

@Su is Queen I'm probably too old for emojis, but I'm also old enough not to care. : )
There is a strong emotional attachment for me to the Budokan concerts since they were the first full shows I watched and got on disc.
I fell in love with this song from Budokan Black Night, before the Tokyo Dome or Hiroshima performances happened.
Still think that 'NR,NR' has gotten better every time it's been performed.
And Su's spoken introduction at the 'Legend S' concert is especially moving.
      DESPAIR 『絶望』
      "The bright beam of light
That wiped all light from the world
Also ceased people's light of hope
      The skies turned dark
And endless rain fell upon the people
Who had lost all of their light and hope
      But endless rain doesn't exist
And the people hope of black skies to clear out
So the heavens can restore the light that had been lost
They hope to discover that there's happiness at the end of sorrow
And they pray for light of hope to return to them."

This is a good version but the one for her 20th birthday in her home town of Hiroshima (called Legend S: Baptism XX) really is the one, her emotions really come through and being older she really conveys those feelings in her voice.

You didn't cry, because we haven't give you the context, and you're looking at the wrong video. The one you should be watching is the official mv, from Legend -S- Baptism XX. This is Mikio' Fujioka, the Kami band lead guitarist's last appearance, before he passed away not long after the concert. And that's not all. This concert was a homecoming for SU-METAL. This was celebrating her 20th birthday. In Japan, 20th is when you recognized as adult. But, Yui couldn't make it. So, this was a concert where they had to do it with 2 girls instead of 3. It was very sad watching them, and the audience was all trying to support them at best by singing Yui's part.
Before the song starts, there was a video about dedicating this song to Hiroshima's loss due to 1945 atomic bomb, saying that there is happiness after sorrow (or something like that). Also, before the concert, if I'm correct, Su was highlighting the iconic places of Hiroshima. So yeah, it's a very moving song, but that one concert in Hiroshima is the one that stuck in your heart. So, please do watch that video, and listen closely to Su's voice. If you want to see the prologue video, it's out there in Dailymotion.

This is SU-METAL at her best - well, one of the many times :-) The emotion she puts into it, her stage presence.... At first, though, she did not want to record this song for the (first) album, as she felt that she could not do it enough justice. But after she saw the audience's reaction to it, seeing people in tears, she agreed to record it for their second album. However, only (almost) four years after this Budokan performance did she feel that she had actually grown enough, emotionally and with her singing, that she felt that she could perform it as it should be performed. This was at her 20th birthday concert. That performance is stunning. Watch at your own pleasure: ruclips.net/video/pDgqo6fcliY/видео.html
This song isn't performed much, unfortunately, and it's very unlikely that they'll perform it in the upcoming tour. If you want to see something recent from BABYMETAL - that they definitely will play on the upcoming tour, try "Pa Pa Ya!!". ruclips.net/video/oO7Y8NsnkRg/видео.html It's a fun, summer-song about festivals and spicy papaya salad. ;-)

Suzuka Nakamoto became a model at the age of 3. She started performing live on stage at the age of 8. Before Babymetal managed to participate in 2 musical bands. The "Twins" are a duo with her older sister, and "Karen Girls", a j-pop group. She became a member of babymetal at the age of 12-13 (two other girls were 11).
In fact, the babymetal project was created around her. Because she was the only girl at the time who had a strong enough voice for that. A Coba Metal producer spotted her in Karen Girls and got the idea to create a Baby Metal project.
She has a very strong voice for her age, and what is important - she can sing perfectly live, without auto-tuning, and practically does not make mistakes. She also has good training, which allows her to sing well even while dancing.
so already at a young age she had a lot of experience in both singing and acting and performance. Skills instilled in very early childhood are very well fixed. That's why she feels so good on stage. She's been there almost all her life. This is her home.

when this was done she was so worried that she didn't bring the emotion to the song. it is not a song they do a lot. the last time they did this was in 2017 for her 20th birthday. that video is so much better. it has so much emotion. after the show for her 20th birthday the main guitarist that had been with them from the beginning fell from an observation deck and died the following month. the video was the last show for him so now this song can be considered a tribute to him because her singing is like she is singing about him and the song Starlight is also a tribute for him and for Yui leaving. the link is ruclips.net/video/pDgqo6fcliY/видео.html . to me just the title is showing the emotion since you cant have a rainbow unless you have rain. to me this means you have to go thru pain to get to the point you are happy but you will get thru it. and if I am not mistaken they have only done this song live like 3 or 4 times only. Su is so a perfectionist that she wasn't happy til she got the emotion right. also that is why it was not on their first album but on the second.

Thank you for the video, great reaction :) I've seen it mentioned a few times in the comments already, but a larger chance for tears would have been the 2017 Legend S version I think. Not only because she was older at that time, but because it was her big 20th birthday show in her hometown Hiroshima(they had never played there before), and Yui, the member that left for health/personal reasons, actually suddenly couldn't perform that day, on doctor's orders, so Su would've really had someone to think about, somebody to miss while performing this song. This was a huge surprise for everyone as none of them had ever missed a show up to that point. They also had nobody to fill in and had to do the show with just Su and Moa, leaving an empty spot on one side. After that Yui never did a show with them again, it truly is a sad story, she did not get to have a proper goodbye.

Nice reaction ^^ So a bit of a background as in why I had suggested the 'Legend - S" live version instead of this one. That was the first time they were performing without Yui iirc and during the many Su closeups you can clearly see her almost tearing up. The song is about the pain of separation from someone dear...so who knows if she already knew at that time that Yui wouldn't come back to BM. Also, coincidentally, that live performance is the last of Mikio Fujioka before is tragical death, and there is a moment in the video, just during one of the most emotional lyrical passage, when there's a close up onto Mikio doing a bit of a solo...so you can understand why fans would double-tear up at that LOL. As always loved the reaction; maybe in your own time (or even a bonus reaction to compare?? :D ) take a look to the Legend S version; I think that is also one of the greatest showcase if Su voice and presence - even better than this one (cause Legend S is 2 years later iirc). Have a nice weekend ;)

Thanks BJ, good reaction. I think we shouldn't be wanting to make you cry based on what may effect us, we may have more connection with a song because of 'reasons', you may not yet have that connection, maybe you'll get it on the second or third hearing, who knows. Tears should happen naturally and for their own reasons - just as happened to you when you watched Road of Resistance. Fair enough there are songs (like this one) where crying may be more likely, there are other songs that just catch you by surprise and where you can't necessarily even explain what it was about that song or that moment in that video that hit you emotionally. I suspect you felt something with Su's first scream in 'Headbanger' but don't worry, I won't tell.
Just keep the Babymetal reactions coming, maybe you'll get another teary moment when you least expect it, maybe you won't - if you do it will be far more moving and satisfactory for the rest of us when it happens out of the blue.

The name of the band "Babymetal" (Bebimetaru) comes from the words "baby" (beibi) and "heavy metal" (hebi metaru). The correct pronunciation rhymes with "heavy metal", i.e. no emphasis on the first a as in "baby". However, the band do not strictly enforce this, and most native English speakers still pronounce the name as baby metal.

Great Reaction, and I'm pleased you did not cry even tho we prompted you to. True reactions are much better. You have given us a new term to describe Babymetal songs. "Pretty", I have tended to use the term Disney-Metal. A Genre only our Queen can deliver, when she transforms into a Disney Princess and belts out prog-metal Power Ballads, examples being this and The One. I hope you get close enough to see Moa Smile, but a warning if you get too close they have this..Aura, that you can actually feel. The only other time I had that experience was years ago when I seen Bob Dylan. You know you are in the presence of greatness.

The alternate option would be the Glastonbury performance but it is festival and the crowd do not really know BM so are not as avid.

She has only performed this song 5 times, so it's quite rare. At the time of this performance, she felt she was technically capable of singing, but couldn't catch the emotion properly. Su is a perfectionist. Check out the Legend S version, much better.

Again thank you for reacting !
Yes, Yui left because of health reasons.
My guess is when you mentioned One Ok Rock at "Japan Dome", I assume what you meant was: Tokyo Dome.
Babymetal has also played there, 2 nights in a row sold out.
Something you might find interesting, when this song was first created it was suggested to Suzuka (this might surprise some people): try singing it like Billy Joel Honesty.
The song is a tribute to X-Japan Endless Rain, which is a song similar to November Rain by Guns N Roses (some think it might have also been inspired by Endless Rain).
Here are some of the most played songs of the setlists in recent shows (not in that order), some are obviously classics and you've even already seen some:
    - Distortion
    - Elevator Girl
    - Gimme Chocolate!!
    - KARATE
    - Megitsune
    - Pa Pa Ya
    - Road of Resistance
    - Shanti Shanti Shanti

Su-Metal is White Babymetal, who sings timeless songs of love, life, and loss. Yuimetal and Moametal were Black Babymetal, who danced and sang sharp songs about here and now. They also wrote Song 4. Yes, very pretty song. It is interesting how, well, melodic, the melodies are. One can hear this by checking out the "R3 Music Box" channel. This song is also a tribute to X JAPAN's endless rain. X japan is a huge influence to babymetal because their producer is a huge fan of x japan. Most babymetal live performance actually atleast have a tiny bit of tribute to x japan. X japan's member ofcourse know babymetal and have met tthe girls and love them and know that his band has a huge influence to babymetal. Su and moa performed and sang endless rain with queen's brian and another member along with other artists on a japanese show on new years eve which is perfect because x japan's last pive was held on the same day.
So if you want to react to X JAPAN'S endless rain react to their last live performance

A song we are likely never to see performed again. They have only performed this live 4 times, once in each of the following years - 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. And now that the new album's coming out, there's even less chance.
It's beautiful, one of my favourites, but I do agree with most commenters below that either the Tonkyo Dome or Legend S versions would have been better. She's older and the emotion of the song is stronger because of it.

    ----------------------------------
    Why can't I sleep?
    Why does the night end?
I don't want anything, even tomorrow,
    the future without you.
    Why was I smiling?
    Why so though feeling lonely?
Nobody knows that I really just
wanted you to be by my side.
Even the despair becomes the light.
Though an endless rain continues to fall.
Even the despair becomes the light.
A sad rain throws a rainbow
    far far away.
    We shall never meet again,
but I want not to forget you forever.
    If the dream continues,
I wish I'll never wake up from it.
    Why was I smiling?
    Why so though feeling lonely?
Nobody knows that I really just
wanted to see you. That was all.
Even the despair becomes the light.
Though an endless rain continues to fall.
Even the despair becomes the light.
A sad rain throws a rainbow
    even now.
An endless rain fills my heart
    forever.

Ok Here's the thing. Before Yui left the regular thing in their shows was the switch up in the show dynamic. Mostly all 3 girls fronting with Su leading BUT then you'd get a song lead by just Su or she would get a break while Yui & Moa Performed a Duet Track... So You habe LOADS of different performances that will surprise you that may never happen again

The one that had to leave the group was YUI. She was my favorite and I was heart broken when she had to leave. When they start their US tour in a few weeks we will have a better idea of what the set list will be. I would think it will be heavy on the new album. They do not change the set list too much when on tour, with the exception of the LA show at the Fourm. They will be playing much more at that show. Look forward to seeing you in Tempe.

The two most emotional songs (IMO) are Akatsuki (Unfinished version ruclips.net/video/zS-gB0wYeM0/видео.html ) and Tsubasa wo kudasai "Legend D" (Live at at Akasaka BLITZ 20.12.2012) ruclips.net/video/QU8DEgPgW8E/видео.html though the second one needs some context. Early concerts had a story that ran through them and had a theme of Su's 'Death' and 'Resurrection'. This is the ending song of the Legend "D" (Death) concert and in the story Su sacrifices herself in place of Yui and Moa. The song is a cover of a folk song and not an original BabyMetal song.

I think your tears before may have been a bit misinterpreted. You seem to be more overwhelmed with the emotion from the triumphant quality of a performance, as it makes you feel proud of them, rather than a sad, emotionally charged song (even though you obviously appreciate those greatly, too). Fortunately, we do have plenty of that triumphant quality in supply. ;)
We like seeing people's humanity expressed, and we like sharing BabyMetal with people. They mesh quite well.

Well, that was a disappointment. :-P I have listened to this song dozens of times, and I was crying 5 seconds in. Please watch the version from Legend S and pay attention to Su during the last chorus. If it hasn't happened up to that point, that's where I crack every time. ruclips.net/video/pDgqo6fcliY/видео.html
I'm not sure if it's true, but a very touching and fascinating (to me at least) story that I have heard about this song is that it had been written early enough to appear on the first album, but Su said that she feels like she is not ready to perform it the way it would need to be performed. So they postponed it until the release of the second album. Isn't that remarkable? Says a lot about the professionalism and passion of these girls, even at such a young age.

Oh honey, you got the wrong video. The much better version is No Rain No Rainbow Legend S Baptism XX. They even got an orchestra to go with it. The video was taken from Hiroshima concert, at Su's 20th birthday in 2017. A few days later, one of the guitarist (the one who played next to the bassist in the video) died in an accident and this video was compiled (what we think) as a tribute to him. I supposed Babymetal fans cried a lot when this video was released a few months later. Hence the reference from your viewers. I love your reviews and reactions. Please keep it up! xx

    Hi BJ
I wouldn't choose this one if I wanted to see you cry again like in Road Of Resistance... as I don't think the cry comes from a sad or a beautiful song. I get the feeling that your tears over Road Of Resistance has more to do with the fact that you are already so much into them, and rooting for them so much that such gigantic accomplishment like the one that is displayed on Road Of Resistance, together with so much energy being exchanged between those 3 little girls and the immense crowd, it can only result in either tears or a lot of swearing words...
That said, I would rather recommend watching 2014's Live In London, The Forum (I think it's the first headline concert outside Asia and just 2 days after the "IDZ" in Sonisphere you've reacted to) and make a "special" 2 song combo: "Babymetal Death/Iine!"... Yes it's a smaller venue than those big arenas like Budokan, Tokyo Dome or Saitama, but the expectation of the crowd, the moment when that big curtain comes down it's magical... you see the 3 with sort of serious/closed expressions as the "BabymetalDeath Ritual" continues and when you get to "Iine!", the smiles from Yui, Moa and Su just melting the viewers and ...and... and... damn, it's overwhelming ... it's chilling...
Ah, allow me another recommendation: a special Black Babymetal one (you have a Sumetal-solo, you might as well do a Yui/Moa one): "4 no Uta" (the one written by both Yui and Moa during a bus trip) in Budokan Black Night.
Of course, tears come a little easier when/if you get to be a big big Yui fan as well and all these pre - October 2017 shows reminds of how it was then... nevertheless, they keep going ( Meta Taro in Legend S with the crowd singing the Yui part is amazing and heartbreaking...) and keep growing stronger. I'll always root for them with or without Yui. And I'll root for Yui whenever she gets back to the spotlight doing whatever she feels...
Anyway, there's a bunch of recommendations from fans all over these reaction comments and all of them are well worth. I'll be very happy to see the next reactions you'll have of Babymetal and I bet the tears will roll again in some epic, powerful and glorious choice like ROR...
    Cheers! Peace!
