- The boys race to the Mexican boarder from Palm Springs. Jeremy is in a Lexus LFA, James in an Aston Martin Vanquish, Richard a Dodge Viper. The last to make it to the Mexican border would have to travel into the country itself to drive the Mastretta MXT, a Mexican sports car mocked by the boys in an earlier series. Speed and power solves many things
Considering he did about 160mph on the road it seems believable
I'm sure he was really laying down the hammer hard between shots, but there's always chance that the longer route was less congested and was able to stay at highway speed longer than the more direct route. I'm from Virginia originally and now I reside in Pennsylvania and this is absolutely the case the way their highway system is laid out compared to the way it was in The Old Dominion.

1:26 For anyone who doesn’t know, Jeremy Clarkson referenced the episode where Richard Hammond insulted the Mexicans and where Clarkson himself made a joke about the Mexican ambassador sleeping all day with the TV on.
And, TBH, they really crossed the line in that incident. Most of their jokes using national stereotyping go right up to the line, maybe pushing it a little, but don't go too far. The jokes about Mexicans were, to quote one observer, "as funny as a cold sweat and a sharp pain down your left arm."
Although Jeremy said he patched things up with the Mexican Ambassador, the citizens in the country of Mexico doesn’t know that they’re now on good terms. Plus Richard blew it for the trio by going too far and James and Jeremy were deeply annoyed and I would’ve done the same thing in sabotaging the Viper to slow him down.

@@cliffordhn I don't think it was. If you listen closely at 3:01 you can hear the train horn pretty silently as the picture changes to jeremy in the car. And when the horn blows, in both shots, inside and outside the car, jeremy is speeding past the train. So i think they were the same moment shown from two angles.

I went on the 111 down to Bombay Beach with a friend after camping in Joshua Tree and it is a very unique drive with almost no one around. The amount of train traffic out there was absolutely incredible as well. I think Clarkson took the better route personally even if he had lost.

My God that LFA looks gorgeous going down the highway, dream car
I can't get over how amazing these three cars are and they weirdly fit well together. Aston martin looks stunning especially in that baby blue colour and sounds pretty nice too, probably the most comfortable GT cruiser between the three. Lfa sounds the best and it feels like it's track ready standing on its toes ready to blast off. And the viper is just so raw and plain badass especially in that black, a leather jacket, a cigarette and that viper would be a holy combo

LFA project has have been developed from 10 years. 6 years tested on Nurburgring. V10 engine made by Yamaha, which is specialized with small, light sport motorcycle engines. It goes till 9 rpm ! V10 is the best combination of the power and sound. This is is a combination of Ferrari sound and motorcycle sound. Yamaha is an expert also to musician instruments so it has knowledge about sound technology. Engine reaction is so fast that only digit tachometer can follow it… To go to 9 000 rpm takes half second. It is the most expensive japan car in the history. Production only 500 cars.

Yamaha instruments are sub-par to most other brands so I wouldn't call them "experts" they make good beginner to intermediate instruments, that's about it. To call them experts is to put them up there with the likes of legendary companies like Gibson USA or Steinway...
Fredrik Kalgren While i totally agree on the guitar front, I have also been playing 10 years, the keyboards that Yamaha produces are very decent for the money. I however am struggling to find the connection between the LFA's engine and Yamaha's keyboards. While they may be made by the same company, they are not made by the same group of people. Or the same division. Probably not in the same building. Possibly different countries. It does sound great, but i cannot agree with that information.

But is there any other engine company which has connection with musician instruments ? No. So this means Lexus has chosen the best experienced with sound manufacturer. They wanted to have complete masterpiece, even with such a detail like sound surrounding a driver.
I guess you can say that. I mean it's better approach than BMW's idea to make the M5 emit artificial engine noise into the cabin..as a BMW owner i always shake my head in shame at that idea. The LFA does sound a Formula 1 car and is the closest i ever heard a car get to one.

Calexico is my hometown, and I can't believe I didn't know they filmed here. Also, they parked the wrong way on that street before the border, it's one way. Hammond took the wrong way into Mexico that's only for cars.
I live in El Centro and Calexico used to be my hometown I thought of the same thing that they went into a one way street hahah !

A GPS is good for finding out where you are, but if you want to see all the roads to your destination and which route to pick, a paper map is far superior.
A GPS may know a route there, but it may not be the *best* route there.

Highway 111 is slightly longer and the condition of the road is rougher than Highway 86 but there is little to no traffic on that route so you can make it up with speed. Been driving these 2 highway for the last 3 months for CBP and I would definitely choose 111 to get down to Calexico.
