Bridget Teyler The contractions. With my first daughter I tensed up and ended up getting the epidural at only 3cm. So I keep thinking that I’m going to give in again or that I’m going to freak out again! But your videos are definitely helping me keep more calm this time around

    Breath technique times
1:14 - Destresser Breath - breathe in 4-6 secs, exhale 6-8 secs, 4 times in a row (get through contractions)
5:43 - Transition breathing - short shallow breaths; 2 in, 2 out (resist the urge to bear down/push)
7:57 - "J" breath - breathe in, low moan out, tighten abs/uterus as you breathe out

I just gave birth two days ago and the fact that I had watched this video previously really SAVED THE DAY!!!!!
I went into spontaneous labor at 40 weeks & 2 days and we had no babysitter! Due to COVID-19 I had to labor in the hospital completely alone! These breathing techniques got me through my entire labor with no epidural, no complications, and not a single vaginal tear!

One more tip: Relaxing/dropping your lower jaw as you breathe out also really helps to open up the cervix (I think I got that one from the great Ina May Gaskin). I came back here to say THANK YOU. This video among many of yours has helped me give birth Naturally without any pain medications AT ALL. Praise God!!
To all mommas who’ll deliver soon, trust me it is possible to have natural birth with just doing the Breathing techniques. Doing it consciously and purposefully made me ride every painful contractions as they come. next thing I know I’m 8cm dilated when we came to the hospital (I had to have my bag of waters ruptured by my OBGYN in the hospital). I’m a FTM I thought I had to wait till my waters broke before I should go.
I was literally watching this video in the labor room to refresh my memory while I waited to reach 10cm and just doing the Destressor breathing technique. BREATHING IS KEY!

Thank you so much for the tips and especially the breathing techniques. I was able to successfully labor at home doing the breathing, headed to hospital once I felt that the contractions got stronger especially knowing I was already 4cm and 50% effaced. Once I got to hospital I was already 6-7 cm and 100% effaced. I still kept focusing on my breathing and only that. Two hours later with no pain medication/pitocin I had a baby boy naturally. Good luck to everyone especially with this Covid19 pandemic, just focus on the positive and breathing and in no time you will have your baby in chest

I watched your video a week before giving birth and on the day I went into labour. Baby was born in the bath at the birthing unit in under 5 minutes last week. I used all your breathing techniques and 'breathed' my baby out. It felt like she was coming out on her own and I just needed to help her along. My first baby I remember making a bit of a noise when pushing that it scared my partner haha. But with this time round as I focused on my breathing, I hardly made a sound at all and I was soooo much calmer. I remember once she came out I looked to my partner and said, "I did it!!!". Not just because I gave birth but because I used your breathing techniques and I couldn't believe I remembered what to do and just how it actually worked! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us mama's xo

I had to come back to this video and let you know that because of you and this video, I was able to have the natural, epidural free birth I wanted 3mths ago. I had pitocin and an epidural with my first. I had a reaction to the epidural and long story short, wasn’t able to walk without my leg giving out on me for about 3mths. I didn’t want the possibility of going through that all over again now with a toddler to care for, too. While I was in labor this time around, I literally typed in how to breathe when in labor (lol) and clicked on your video. I watched and did exactly what you instructed the entire time. I went into the hospital breathing as you instructed, blocking out all noise around me and was just focusing. Within 30min of arriving, I delivered. When I was in transition, I wanted to get the epidural but the doctor felt I was doing great and told me to continue breathing as I was. Thank you so much, you are amazing! I will definitely be suggesting your video for any pregnant woman I come across! Xo

Hey Bridget! I just wanted to leave a comment thanking you for your RUclips channel and all your valuable information! My wife and I watched quite a few of your videos in preparation for her labor, especially the breathing technique ones and they worked amazingly. My wife unexpectedly went into labor during week 37 of her pregnancy (which could have been in part to her doing your birth ball exercises 🤔😂) but I was able to be with her and help coach her with her breathing through out labor because we had watched your videos together!! I even found myself saying “remember what Bridget said about breathing” while mimicking your techniques throughout her process!! 😅🤣 She had a natural birth with extremely minimal tearing and did NOT need an epidural during labor! (This was literally 3 days ago!) While I know everyone’s pregnancy and labor is different, I just wanted to thank you again because the techniques really really worked for us! So even though I’m a “Papa” lol I just wanted to thank you again for your channel and information and would recommend it to anyone reading the comments or wondering if it these techniques actually work!

Can’t recommend this video highly enough. I’m a first time mom and literally breathed my way through labour with the help of one shot of pethidine which I don’t even think made much of a difference. The midwife was so impressed and couldn’t believe I used just my breathing to get through a fairly fast and intense labour. My midwife was actually bored because I didn’t need her help. Women’s bodies are made to do incredible things and we just have to trust them.

Thank you so much Bridget for the breathing techniques.i started labor at 4am but stayed calm and did the destresser breath at home and didn't panic, and continued to do it at the car on the way to the hospital.6am we arrived at the hospital and just continued the destresser breathing. At around 7 am I did the breathing during the transition to resist the urge to bear down, and finally started to push baby out from quarter to 8.Did the J breathing for 20 minutes and at 8:05am am,baby was out! Wow!That was amazing and thanks to you Bridget for your informative videos!

I had to be induced due to preeclampsia so I was nervous of how this birth would be different because of the induction but I did not have an epidural and I literally breathed him out. It was amazing! Hey Bridget! I wanted to reach out and thank you for the video. I gave birth last week and was able to labor at home until I was 7cm all thanks to your breathing techniques! By the time I arrived at the hospital, the nurses were shocked (and I was too!) that I made it that far without coming in. I also used your breathing techniques in order to relax more. There was a period of my labor where I stalled for 10 hours and no progress was made. I was an hour away from getting a c-section. During those long, stressful 10 hours I concentrated on my breathing and calming down. A true miracle happened in that last hour that I finally dilated enough and was able to deliver my baby girl the way I wanted. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

I was so scared for labor but Bridget's videos all prepared me so well and i went in for induction so confident that i could do this. They induced me at 10PM and i gave birth at 12pm the next day. The midwives said that it was the shortest and fastest and smoothest delivery they experienced in a long time. They even called it the magical delivery. I had some good food and good sleep before going to sleep after the induction then i woke up at 3am with pains that kept intensifying but I focussed on breathing techniques and yoga ball movements. It really worked, i was so focussed of these things that i forgot paun relief things even existed. Ladies, this is the best channel to educate yourself and go in with full confidence knowing your body is made for this and that your body CAN do this!! 💪💪💪💪

I have so much to thank you for in making this video! My goal this pregnancy was to go all natural with no medication. I watched your videos for about 2 weeks straight before birth! I DID IT!! I practiced every day until labor on my breathing and relaxing my mind and body to connect with each other!! I was in labor for about 12 hours.. but after my water broke everything was so intense and I stuck it through by breathing! I pushed 3 times for less than 5 minutes and baby girl was out. Your videos are amazing!!

I just wanted to come back to this video and say it helped me so much during this second birth omg it literally made the pain even more bearable because focusing on the breathing instead of the pain even my nurse told me I was doing a great job breathing and I’m so glad because the first time I felt like I forgot how to breathe because I was so stressed and panicked I just kept hyperventilating this time I conquered the labor and not the other way around so thank you so much!

    Honest opinion??
I did these techniques, and it actually helped me not until I reached 7-8cm. I just couldnt bear the pain anymore, i was just silently screaming as my nursing attendant said I shouldnt scream loudly cause it wouldnt help me with the pain. But yeah, thanks for these techniques, I somewhat got to manage the labor pain.
