How Good Was Kofimania? (2019)

- In WWE we've seen our fair share of crowing moments, moments where underdogs become top dogs. Everyone from Shawn Michaels to Eddie Guerrero & Jeff Hardy. These performers lived for pro wrestling and won over the hearts of many wrestling fans. Similar to this was Kofi Kingston. Kofi had been with the WWE for 11 years in 2019, and in those 11 years, he had been one of the most consistent and exciting talents in the business. He had worked his hardest to do whatever was asked of him. He had won every title in WWE except for one, the WWE championship. But in 2019 KofiMania was born and the rest as they say is history.

Daniel Bryan knew what it felt like to go into Mania as an ultimate, fan favorite underdog. Putting Kofi over was a very respectable move. I respect Bryan and everyone else involved in the decision to put over Kofi at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Bryan is showing off n AEW
Wat doesn't put over jebroni
I always like to look at the bigger picture. Kofi has cemented his legacy, he’s practically a grand slam champion and future Hall of famer absolutely. He’s paid his dues, he worked his butt off for eleven years and it paid off brilliantly. Daniel Bryan, Vince McMahon, even Orton all did well to put Kofi over and just like Bryan years before in the same shoes as Kofi, had an insurmountable heap of fan support. Yes it ended terribly but this is the WWE they don’t stand on ceremony. Not only are they great at telling underdog stories but also delivering sick twists just for the sake of shock value too. It’s part n parcel of the WWE product. His reign was so lengthy that we all still remember it. It’s just bad when you win a title but drop it within a day or a week. Kofi had for 6 months, he made his mark. As I mentioned earlier, Vince has a way of making you look unstoppable one minute then a complete joke the next. Examples: Bianca Blair dropping the title in squash like fashion to Becky Lynch in an impromptu match at Summerslam. The fiend dropping the belt to Oldberg then fast forward a year later and his last ever match takes place at wrestlemania where he jobs to Orton after just one RKO. Effectively ending the match within less then a minute. Ouch. Finally CM Punk’s summer title reign was a joke. This guy delivered arguably the greatest promo in the WWE that your ever likely to see, he founded a new zeitgeist, a new era, for the WWE universe back in 2011 but then he spent the whole summer feuding with Kevin Nash over a text. A flipping text. You see WWE storytelling is never without a sense of irony or controversy.
Kofi is mid card at best. Daniel Bryan definitely did the right thing, but Kofi isn’t and never will be a main event talent like Daniel Bryan
@@master-of-mind5881 WWE 100% did the right thing with Brock squashing him. He’s never been more than a mid card talent
The buildup to KofiMania was one of the best and most emotional I’ve ever seen, almost as good as Bryan’s. DB deserves credits too for being the perfect heel for Kofi’s buildup
I will give Bryan wayyyy more credit. He carried that feud.

I'm glad I can just watch wrestling for fun, and not compare these wrestlers to some great athlete that actually wins without a scripted fake competition. Damn yall really take this stuff that seriously?
Kofi's run was really good, in my opinion. It was a solid, lengthy 6 month title reign and he beat many top names in the company. The only bad thing about it was the way it ended, but then again, what matters is the title reign itself, and not the way the holder loses it.
honestly kofi was the only good world champ out of the new day, idk if xavier has had any world title wins cause i only started watching wwe about 4 years ago after an 8 year break from wrestling but big e's reign was shit ngl
Yea. Historically it always matters how you lose the title. The way he lost it was disgraceful. Not that kofi is the rock. But cud u imagine the rock getting stunnered in 10 seconds and losing a title on a non ppv event. Cmon now. That was straight disrespectful what they did to Kofi. Idk why he even allowed such a thing. Id rather take a paycut then get done like that as champion.
legit tho, why the hell did kofi charge at brock, brock demolished him.
@@maclion3714 he got destroyed by Brock Lesnar, sorry but that's how it should have ended. Kofi being even remotely capable of having a somewhat competitive match with him would have been stupid.
Fun fact Brock Lesnar best both Kofi Kingston and Big E to win the WWE championship
@@TimeBomb014X its easy to write an interesting match between the two. Just like triple h did for himself all those years. A regular match ok. But not a title match thats bullshit idc how dominant brock is. And big e definitely shouldn't have gotten snatched like that. I've seen crazier things in wrestling. So it ain't hard to make things right. And thats not taking anything from brock. I like Brock. I just think they could easily make things interesting. And they don't do many other champions like that. That was sketch
I’ll never forget how happy me and my family were for Kofi when he won. We were cheering loudly and crying at the same time. Seeing his career ever since the beginning, it was really beautiful stuff. I wish I can relive that moment again.
It was just an organic moment, everyone and their mom was cheering on Kofi
Me too! But I did feel like his WWE championship reign had potential. There was a video of partfunknown when Adam books on how he would do KOFIMANIA and I like his revamp version better.
Bet you’re black lmao
My mom cried when she saw it. XD
You can relive it. Just watch it again . Cause he's never gonna be champion again. He may have deserved it. I still wasn't buying it. He's good but to me he's a mid carder.
I've been a Kofi fan ever since he debuted. Dude has a natural personality that you can't hate
He needs his Jamaican gimmick back
yes he is great

For those saying ratings fell under Kofi as champ they were fallling before he was champion and Brock winning the title didnt do much for them either. they were so bad Fox who wanted a more sports oriented show where shooters like Brock were booked extra strong .Allowed WWE go back to a more traditional formula to fix them .
To those who say where Kofi faced no credible oppenents he faced AJ Styles and Sami in a triple threat , Dolph Ziggler , Kevin Owens , Samoa Joe Randy Orton before losing to Brock If those arent credible opponents in your eyes then I dont know what is .
Most people's problem with Kofi as champion was they wanted him to do and be the exact oppopsite of the character that made him popular in the New Day and got him in the world title picture in the first place .Bookingf sucked the life out of his reign with unecessary rematches. So the intial appeal of each fued he had was gone by the end of it . He did have standout matches though the triple threat vs Styles and Zayn , 2/3 falls vs Ziggler, Extreme Rules vs Samoa Joe , Night of Champions vs Randy Orton , vs Kevin Owens at MITB it was decent reign.
@Warge, yep they are talking to you
Right I swear it’s the most annoying thing when they say his reign was boring
Man, they really made Kofi go through the most to be WWE champion. Just to lose it to Lesnar in a few seconds. 😔

I think it was incredible, Kofi finally got what he deserved after being so loyal to the company that gave him a chance. Leading up to Mania, it was perfect. The storyline, the unbeatable villain with the huge henchman, and the underdog who's forte was tag-team wrestling. And the climax when Kofi pinned Bryan, magical. I will admit it did cool down after the summer and his reign shouldn't have ended in 7 seconds.
Imagine going to see Rambo in theatres, and leaving out thinking how great of a black ops soldier Stallone was in real life. Lol.
Kofi is a first ballot hall of famer, even before winning the WWE title. He had consistently worked hard and remained loyal to WWE for more than 11 years
I don't think people talk enough about how important KofiMania was, cuz this storyline and moment paved the way for more black/POC talent in WWE to be in top tier positions like Bobby Lashley, Bianca Belair, Big E, etc.

Also the ratings start going down, thanks to kofimania.

I haven’t watched WWE since 2012 but this story literally is bringing me to tears.
The stars aligned to make this happen. It was audible that was never meant to happen but I’m damn glad it did. Daniel Bryan acting as the Triple H to Kofi’s story was icing on the cake. Everything about this was wrestling gold!
Honestly I think people (especially the indie nerds) are being too negative about the reign because of his New Day gimmick. Of course, I’m not saying it’s the best reign and they could have certainly done better but it was a great reign nonetheless.(Not considering the last match tho)

Kofimania Briefly brought me back to why I loved WWE
I agree with you. The lead-up to Mania was incredible. When Kofi finally won the title, I damn near cried. Unfortunately, the aftermath was really weak. I especially didn't care for Ziggler facing Kofi. If anything, that "It should've been me" shtick should've gone to Ali. The matches were good enough, but I just couldn't get invested. The Samoa Joe fued was similarly whatever, but the fued with Randy was pretty good. Then along comes Bork Laser just for some 2 minute squash match in Saudi against some other UFC guy who dips not long after. That was the point I stepped away from WWE. Well, that, The Fiend being ruined, Rusev getting cucked, and the Saudi show in general which to me just feels like a bunch of glorified house shows, and Raw in general just being a chore to watch.

My personal opinion, if a title win comes of a great feud, has at least 1 good feud, and loses the title in a way that furthers the story.
Kofi’s run up to Mania was great, his feud with Orton was the spark needed, and while it sucks it was Kofi, it did get the heat WWE wanted Lesnar to have.
