Here is some fatherly advice to all of you out there.
NEVER, leave your car to be worked on. Schedule appointments and tell them ahead of time that you will be waiting for your car to get done.
ALWAYS, ask for your old parts back.
If any shop tells you that you have to leave your car, they are probably overbooked and won't have the time to properly repair your car, or they want to do something shady. Asking for your old parts is legal, and it helps you see work is being really done.

Not everyone has hours to sit and wait for a repair. Sure if it is an oil change...sit around and wait...But if you are having an engine rebuilt...You do not want to sit around and wait for that. And sure you can ask for the parts back...As long as you know what you are looking at or have someone who does know look at it...If you don't it is kind of pointless since they could give you whatever parts they had laying around from another model car and you wouldn't know...

Very good advice. Also ask to see what they recommend fixing on your car. They will escort you into the shop. Don’t just take their word that it needs it. I’m the one that’s always out there watching them work. I agree with getting the parts back that you can, but some parts have a very high core charge and not everybody can afford to pay that. You can always ask to see your part after the car has been worked on and not keep it. And parts like an alternator you can usually see after it’s been put in.

The defendant refunded her some money back and changed out the alternator for her like she asked. The defendant even dropped her off home because she didn’t have a ride! And remember they was just about to put in a second alternator. because they again misdiagnosed the problem. Her saying just give me my money back and we'll call it saves them the cost of a second alternator+labor and even if the had done it it wouldn't fixed the issue. Normally, the drive belt and alternator are recommended to be replaced at the same time. She didn't have proof from the dealer saying the other place misdiagnosed the problem (unless I missed it). But her original mechanic should have changed BOTH the drive belt and alternator at the same time... more than likely the drive belt was worn out already. Drive belts (depending on the age and miles of the car) is wear and tear just like the other stuff she bought at the dealer.
As a side note, if the alternator was the problem the shop should have given her a failed charge slip.

They should have done a full diagnostic to find out what was truly wrong. They made this girl replace her alternator when it was fine and the judge thinks she should still pay some of it because she got a brand new one? She didn't ask for a brand new one Judge!
