    Interesting Ben 👏 I always preferred my vomero 15 to the Pegasus 37/38…. It felt like a shoe that the Pegasus “should have been” and the Pegasus should have evolved… but it hasn’t. Good to hear the 17 is a solid option

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose Год назад +3

      Price differentation I guess? If the Pegasus had the some foam(s) as a Vomero what would be the point of both.

    • @baltsu

      Vomero 14 was better than the Pegasus at the time. It was like a premium Pegasus, a responsive long run shoe. I had two pairs of them. The problem with that shoe was hot upper especially in the toebox and the fact that its midsole "died" quite quickly. After that there was a big change, 15 was totally different. In my opinion that shoe was made for ultra running which Vomero traditionally was 'til the v13. It was soft in heel and didn't feel as responsive as the previous version. That is why I preferred the React Infinity run. When the Novablast was launched, I didn't like to run in Vomeros anymore.

    • @baltsu
      @baltsu Год назад

      @@TimGrose yes Vomero is a premium option, whereas Pegasus is the average shoe for most purposes. It doesn't excel in anything but you can wear it for everything. That is why it has been a popular shoe for example among high school kids who can do everything from football to running and from gym to going to movies in that shoe. Parents buy one pair shoe that can do it all. The same applies to people who don't do sports at all although Hoka Clifton is threatening Nike Pegasus as a shoe of choice in dog walking and hypermarket/mall visiting. Pegasus has also been better than Vomero at gyms where people might wear the same shoe for classes, weight lifting, crosstrainer, running on treadmill and cycling. Recent models have provided quite good lateral stability and grip which is good in classes like HIIT.
      There are also much more stores that sell Pegasus and big chains put it in campaigns. We need also running shoes that are often available in double-digit prices. Most consumers don't want to try something new. They know what they wear and when they need a new pair, they want to go to a store and feel like that they can afford to buy a pair again.

    My favourite daily is the Puma Velocity Nitro (first iteration). Got it when it first came out (for about 45 quid!). Wore it out. Then tried various others. Novablast 3, Brooks ghost, pegs, Reebok floatride.
    None of them felt as good as the puma velocity nitro. So a couple of weeks ago, I hopped on to Vinted and snaffled a pair of the version 1 for 25 quid brand new. Absolutely delighted.

    Maybe some more obscure picks here...but for years my go-to daily shoe is the Altra Escalante. Models 2.5 and 3 are among my favorites. Also really enjoyed the Topo Cyclone 2 from last year. Super light....and very comfortable for daily miles.

    Vomero 14 was probably my favourite all time shoe, though the outsole wouldn't last the longest. Went through several pairs, and have one pair left still! Vomero 13 was good to me too, though quite a different shoe. Helped a lot when I was suffering with heel issues and kept me moving.

    I had the Vomero 14 a few years back. I really enjoyed them, but struggle to justify the extra price over the Pegasus for an everyday shoe. If I can get them on discount then I might get another pair of Vomero's. They did last me more miles than any other show has.

    I'm a Nike guy when it comes to racing shoes and tempo shoes but I think they're not doing great in the daily trainer area. I tried these but ending up returning them. To me, they felt like a more dull and heavier Saucony Triumph 21. The upper is too thick and the majority of the cushioning is placed in the heel and overall, it doesn't really feel like ZoomX, the midfoot strike is pretty non-responsive and doesn't feel very cushioned. I think this shoe might be good for a heavy runner with a heavy heel strike but for me, I just didn't enjoy it at all, as compared to the Saucony Triumph which also has plenty of cushioning but with a better upper and a nicer ride.

    • @hongxudong3596

      Totally agree regarding the thick upper and heel cushion. The upper is too thick and it gets so hot after a few miles. I am planning to return it and get Saucony/Hoka.

    Thanks for the review Ben! I've been waiting for this one. Interesting that you say it comes up narrow; I heard it fits on the wider side. It didn't feel narrow when I put it on but it might explain why I've had some rubbing in them (I've got wide feet). I've done 70k in them but gonna give them till 100 till I decide whether to stick or twist.

    The sweet spot for me was the Vomero 13. I ran London in a pair of 3’s and Edinburgh in some 5s so have been there since the early days. I ended up with 5 boxes of the 13 and am now on my last pair 😢. The design then changed and I’ve not gone back past the 14. Might be time to return…

    I kind of wish this would have popped up before I bought the 41's, which are comfortable, but the heel is a bit stiff compared to what I prefer or am used to. I love the Invincible runs but the 3's have terrible heel slip for me. So settled for the 41's. Didn't even know the Vomero's were a thing until today.

      Heel counter on the Invincible 3 is a travesty, especially for a shoe generally appreciated for it's cushioned and supportive upper. The rest of the upper is not great either, in my opinion. I am not a fan of the plastic upper with no give. The shoe as a whole just doesn't fit my running style. Try using the runner's knot/loop to better anchor your heel in the shoe.

    Would this be good for sprint training on the track (especially on a harder recortan track)? I've started to run sprints in my New Balance Rebel v3 that I used on the treadmill before for 2k and 5k and unfortunately it's way too roomy in the front, plus the lockdown is mediocre, so it's not stable enough for sprinting on a track.

    Appreciate your reviews Ben, esp since you have a narrow heel like me (I remembered that correctly, yes?)! I'm looking for another shoe for rotation with my Sauconys and debated going back to the ASICS GT-2000 (wore them a few models ago) as I'm not thrilled with the ON cloud flyers I was talked into at the shoe store, lol. I don't like a lot of cushion, prefer the feel of the road but still have some support/cushion which is why I use my Guides a LOT. But again I need another comfy daily trainer and just cannot decide which way to turn. I loved my ADIDAS Adizero Boston 9s, but then they went to the more plush under foot, yuck. My head is swimming with so many options...your opinion? The heel lock down is HUGE for me, so when ppl have mentioned the GT-2000 have some slippage in the current model, I'm leery about going back to them. Wondering if I give Nike a try with these as I've not run in a Nike in many years. Appreciate your input...God bless, Megan

    Hey Ben! Currently training for London and looking for another shoe to add in. Do you reckon these would be any good for track intervals? Current rotation is: easy/recovery - old (500k+) Superblast, track - Streakfly/Mach 5, Intervals - Endorphin Pro 3 (race shoe), Steady runs & Long Runs - fresh pair of Superblasts, Race - Pro 3 or Vaporfly.

    Where did you get those blue socks?

    You are amazing and always love following along with you and your training and races!
    You seem to eat beans in your diet often. I know you are vegan so I was wondering if they ever interfere with your gut or digestive system during training...?? I'm pescitarian. Had to eliminate dairy and beans from my diet during marathon training because I became very sensitive to both...
    Thanks for sharing your tips. I'm always motivated by you and your enthusiasm!!

    This or the Hoka Mach 5?

      Hoka Mach 5 will be way less durable, depends what you want and how many shoes are in your rotation. If your going for just a one shoe daily trainer then vomero, otherwise maybe have a daily trainer (vomero, 1080, Pegasus) and then the Mach 5 as more of a speed shoe. Up to you tho.

    I guess just because a shoe CAN last 800k, does not mean you should take it that far. Typically the midsole has lost a lot of protection and performance far before that. I think leg saving occurs most efficiently somewhere around 300ish (or less) miles on a pair of shoes.
