You don't redraw cards as the attacker for your second attack. If you have no more encounter cards your turn ends. The offense player only draws new cards at the start of their turn. Great video. You inspire me to have more fun when playing games!
"Whispering rapacious orders into their ears, a small flock of rogue traders leads its minions into the far reaches of interstellar space." So the pirates are the parrots on others' shoulders. Ridley reference would also have been cool but this is pretty great.
I owned this game as a kid, the blue box one from 1986, probably too young to get it, so no-one would play it with me. No idea what happened to that game but sad I let it go. I hope to play it sometime in the near future. 30 years later ;)
This video is one of the reasons why I bought this game, and it's been wonderful. Any chance of SUSD doing another one of these with Tom and Ava included (if they like Cosmic Encounter)?
Within the first two minutes, Quinns places the encounter gate backwards and I'm convinced he's drunk....take a look at what he's drinking...turns out he's drunk on SAN PELLEGRINO??!
When the lizard guy won against Matt, he drew a new hand for his second encounter, right? If I read (and explained to my friends) the rules right - his turn was to immediately end his turn instead. Am I right or wrong on this? All the best /Esben
When players ally with the defender in a challenge, their tokens are placed on the “Saturn’s rings” looking section of the attack cone. (And of course the attackers are all placed on the wide end of the cone)
Been watching Cosmic Encounter games since I'm interested in buying it. Are all the content (species, attack cards, etc.) here from the base game? Or are they using expansions in this video? (shot in the dark hoping someone knowledgable is watching this 6 year old video lol)
45:35 When he draws a wild, is it not possible to aim the hyperspace gate at a home planet and target an enemy colony? Why not do that instead, and try to remove a foreign colony of orange or yellow? Is it because it is not clever, considering how many are close too winning, or is it illegal?
Am I mistaken, or did they completely ignore the rule where if you attack someone and then subsequently beat them because they played a "Negotiate" card, the attacker must give the defender cards after the encounter is over?
Yay! Our long Pipless nightmare is over! Or was. Or something. Still going for the interesting hats, I see. They must have changed some of the things around, 'cause I tried to find Pirate in the Wiki, but couldn't. I have no idea why Pip lost her power. And the whole thing was weird and hard to understand. And fun.
Love this video and SUSD's reviews. Don't want to be a rules nazi but they do make a couple of mistakes during this game. Quninns suggests that they might have had double hazards if they had been drawing hazards (7 minutes in). There should only ever be one hazard per encounter even if several destiny cards with hazards have been drawn. I don't think Brendon should have drawn a new hand (49 minutes in). He should only be drawing new cards at the start of the turn, not at the start of each encounter. Matt draws the last destiny card on his winning encounter (52minutes in) which he shouldn't have drawn. It should have been shuffled with the destiny discard pile and a new card drawn. P.S. Temporal Anomalies - Rip them up and throw them in the bin, I hate them so much.
there's more: Lizard only releases on Regroup, Card Zap doesn't work on Reinforcements, last Destiny card isn't used but shuffled, easiest rule to miss
This has the potential to be turned into a short film with that classic intro - Man sitting on bed holding rotary phone. He's looking worried. Without dialling he picks up handset and says. "Hello, uh yeh, can I talk to someone about Cosmic Encounter?"
You might want to try it a few more times. Since the game is so random, you could potentially have a really bad game where one player is very over powered, or you might just have an alien that isn't fun to play as. I've had a few bad experiences with the game but overall I love it and it's one of my all time favorites.
It's Philippa Warr (aka Pip). Leigh Alexander (Mrs. Quinns) can be seen in the recent Great Western Trail review (and possibly a couple of other videos).
so sick of replayed videos. doubt I'll back them again next year. too many other channels that release new content, not just show re-runs. SUSD stop being lame.
We're slowly putting everything we've done to date on RUclips, just so it's all in one place. Once we've caught up, it'll be new stuff only - apologies to those who find it irritating!
0:17 And this right here is why I love this channel. I did not see that intro coming. My sides hurt.
We need more SU&SD plays.....
Simon Winnard more SU&SD plays of cosmic encounter
If they'd just casually record all there game nights I'd totally watch.
You don't redraw cards as the attacker for your second attack. If you have no more encounter cards your turn ends. The offense player only draws new cards at the start of their turn.
Great video. You inspire me to have more fun when playing games!
This is why I love this game. The silliness, the excitement, the involvement, it all makes for a fun experience.
This was fun. Cosmic Encounter is one of the few games where the play through is very entertaining to watch because of all the player interaction.
The amount of fights this game has caused with me and my friends. Hours of fun
I'm convinced this is the best live play of a board game on youtube. More please!!!!
I really thought the Irish Louis Theroux would win it, but that 40 card was top savage.
“Irish Louis Theroux”
Fucking hell thats funny.
Pip is so jolly! It's very infectious!
Got really excited when I saw this video pop up, but I already watched it two years ago. :(
Oh well, guess I'll just have to watch it again!
My sentiments exactly.
Omg, I remember like 10 years ago seeing those kind of adds as a kid, Thats TV after 1am for ya
I'm convinced - this is getting bought. Thanks SU&SD,
You have encountered a wild pip. She trys to bluff Brandon. It's super effective. Quinn is extra screwed.
Highlights: "Quinns is CHEATING" / "I am the best, I am the best, I am the best, I am the best in spa-ace" / Honorable mention goes to Pip's antlers.
No, I'm fine, you're desolate! Made me laugh far too much to 32:00
Space antlers.
32:30 Brendan's "nah" here is priceless. :D
Hang on... the space pirate is a giant pterodactyl?
... Metroid reference?
Yeah probably
"Whispering rapacious orders into their ears, a small flock of rogue traders leads its minions into the far reaches of interstellar space."
So the pirates are the parrots on others' shoulders. Ridley reference would also have been cool but this is pretty great.
"I'm going to neutral as... the SWIZZards" is extremely underrated.
That is exactly what I wanted to say as soon as I heard it and no other player laughed. He's even got the right colors of the swiss flag
“I’m a space aquaintance.” That was cute
Was Brendan giving Pip the 4th colony all that silly? Didn't it effectively force Matt and Quins to stop attacking him, and focus on attacking her?n
That was the BEST play-through EVER!!!
lollin at Matt's "Intergalactic Pulp song" as Pip and the others banter about her Bride power.
Haha Brendan is great. 'Nah sort it out yourselves'.
You're a cool pirate, Quinns!
I wish I had this many friends that lived close.
I owned this game as a kid, the blue box one from 1986, probably too young to get it, so no-one would play it with me. No idea what happened to that game but sad I let it go. I hope to play it sometime in the near future. 30 years later ;)

Pretty sure Ava said she liked it on the podcast, don't know about Tom
Within the first two minutes, Quinns places the encounter gate backwards and I'm convinced he's drunk....take a look at what he's drinking...turns out he's drunk on SAN PELLEGRINO??!
It would be fun to see this game on the twitch stream!
You guys forgot to claim compensation when someone plays a negotiate against an attack card?
He didn't have any cards, so...
Also, he'd get one card per ship lost to the warp, but since he was defending an empty planet, no ships, no cards.
Also if Quinns steal their ships they technically haven’t lost any to the warp and can’t claim
Realising years after watching this the first time, that the Brendan-Pip "Negotiations" are like that scene in The Fifth Element.
That intro got me hot for a cosmic “encounter”!💪🏼😂
What an intro! How have I missed this. Made my day.
When the lizard guy won against Matt, he drew a new hand for his second encounter, right?
If I read (and explained to my friends) the rules right - his turn was to immediately end his turn instead.
Am I right or wrong on this?
All the best /Esben
Yes you are right
Yes, Quinns did that too as well around 39 min mark
this is the best Cosmic encounter play through i have seen.
When players ally with the defender in a challenge, their tokens are placed on the “Saturn’s rings” looking section of the attack cone. (And of course the attackers are all placed on the wide end of the cone)
20:59 "You guys need to stop her" hahaha
Those game pieces have made me hungry for macarons.
"i don't think you're being sincere..."
haha!

Hi! I know this is three years late, but wilds specify that the encounter has to be in your opponents home system!
Is Pip some kind of cosmic reindeer?
as someone who wat hs lots of RUclips and little else video wise...this is new to me, and more than welcome!
Is there a susd video review of cosmic encounter? Or is this sort of it?
That was awesome! Game added to my wishlist :D
I just realized I have this game, buts it’s from the 1970’s
I'll pay for shipping if you want to get rid of it haha ( :
Im gonna be netraul like...Swisszards ahahahaha
Pip is so cute!
That beginning!!😍😍🤣🤣🤣
We need another one of these
Pip is delightful. :)
Am I mistaken, or did they completely ignore the rule where if you attack someone and then subsequently beat them because they played a "Negotiate" card, the attacker must give the defender cards after the encounter is over?
Compensation is given based on how many ships were destroyed.
there were no ships on that planet to be compensated for
Hey you can't card zap a reinforcement card!
You can't offer a colony during negotiate as the attacker. Only the defending player can trade a colony.
Character cards are huge in this game.
My favourite game!
And fun.
This is my favorite intro. I am 50 secs in.
Love this video and SUSD's reviews.

there's more:
Lizard only releases on Regroup,
Card Zap doesn't work on Reinforcements,
last Destiny card isn't used but shuffled, easiest rule to miss
came to watch the game, stayed for the accents
Someone forgot to shuffle... look at the destiny and hazard decks
16:40 you are not allowed to trade cards outside of deals
Quins discarded and redrew after his first encounter instead of ending his turn
Oh-eight-seven-eight-double-seven-six-three-four-double-eight-twenty! BOYS!
So you can invite more than one helpers to an encounter? And also youre keeping your alien cards upside down. Why, and until when?
You can invite as many as you like, either side.
It's a variant rule. You keep them hidden until you choose to reveal them.
Has Tom called the hotline yet?
Great play through!
you pronounce beusicalilly really funny
I like that you keep your alien race secret up until you use them.
This has the potential to be turned into a short film with that classic intro - Man sitting on bed holding rotary phone. He's looking worried. Without dialling he picks up handset and says. "Hello, uh yeh, can I talk to someone about Cosmic Encounter?"
Doing alright yeah
I am pleased CE does not allow polygamy. Only one husband at a time.
Is that a hazard alarm or is it a cat invasion alarm?
Wait, it could be both...
I wish I had friends...
S P A C E A L I M O N Y
this is well done. pls get a proper mic too much echo. only criticism
The Mario Party of board games, greetings from Mexico
That intro... my god...
Best intro!
Pip at 41:11
another great video.
Fun video. I've only played Cosmic once and am sad to say I utterly hated it.
You might want to try it a few more times. I've had a few bad experiences with the game but overall I love it and it's one of my all time favorites.
Ssalamanderr it’s VERY play group dependent.
It became my favorite board game of all time after two plays. I recommend giving it another go.
Exposed song in the background! @reviewtechusa
is Pip's "I'm a space acquaintance" a David Bowie lyric?
The violett player reminds me a lot of Sean "Day9" Plott!
this ship placement makes me angry
as to quote scott pilgrim:
is that girl a boy too?!
how did *spoiler* win?
u guys r gr8 )
where can I get weird hat the woman is wearing? :)
idk why this game is still over $50
It's not like the price for most board games goes down with time, if anything it goes up...
Poor Brendan.
What is Brendan's accent supposed to be?
brningpyre supposed to be? It’s Irish. Obviously Irish
Particularly of the Northern variety, which is very different from the Southern variety
I didn't know Louis Theroux was so into boardgames back in the day
I miss Pip!!
Is that the woman that Quinns married?
It's Philippa Warr (aka Pip). Leigh Alexander (Mrs. Quinns) can be seen in the recent Great Western Trail review (and possibly a couple of other videos).
"the national anthem of the white people" :Quin
"Climate Change talks", haha. As if it's a serious threat.
so sick of replayed videos. doubt I'll back them again next year. too many other channels that release new content, not just show re-runs. SUSD stop being lame.
