Watching this makes me miss the good old days when they did all their reviews together. They're clearly having such a good time here.
Andrew Halverson He's a married man!!! :P
Just need to ship harder. That'll fix it.
@Asher Shunn Why? What's the backstory here?
For those watching this not native speakers of the old Irish language known by non-Irish people as Gaelic, the word inis means Island, and it’s actually pronounced Inn-ish.
There's a sequel to this set in modern day London ..it's called ... yeah innit.
+1 lol
Another great thing that they didn't even mention is how easy it is to set up the game and pack it up again and how little space it takes up. To start a game, its 3 terrain pieces, 2 minis for each player, and you ready to draft! Yay! This ease and lack of table space required is what often makes me choose Inis over other boardgames on most occasions.
It's 2021. Anyone watching reruns of SD&SU?
In 2022!
I’m watching it after the gift guide
Almost 2023 at this point!
Me in 2023
I'm in 2024 actually. The world is quite different.
"marriage has changed you, and quite substantially" HAHAHAHAHAHA
The Artist for the more psychedelic stuff was Jim Fitzpatrick, who is most famous for his monocolour picture of Che Guevara. He also did a load of Thin Lizzy Albums. His work is absolutely why I bought the game in the first place place.
Another interesting point that wasn't mentioned is that while fighting may be costly, one of the more interesting things I've seen pop up is that fighting isn't often for the sake of conquest. More often it's very small scale and strategic; sometimes you're hitting a single clan in a territory you already control or even fighting to kill off your own clans in order to deny an opponent victory. It's a culmination of mechanics that felt pretty unique and interesting compared to typical territory control.
Oh, good. I was worried that they used some of Fitzpatrick's works without permission.
Holy shit, that’s exactly who it is!
I follow Jim on FB and I knew the artwork seemed familiar, but it’s only clicked now that you’ve said. Such an amazing artist.
This game is a true masterpiece even 3 years later this is definitely my gaming group's favorite game. And this review was a big part of me even giving this a go. Thanks guys.
I've been wanting this game for a long time, and this comment finally made me order it.
rat488 Mine too. What other games would you recommend, if I may ask ?
100% agree, it's my absolute favorite game and a bunch of my friends feel the same! This review is also why I purchased it in the first place
Same here, it is my second favorite game ever (the first being Concordia). I bought this even if it isn't in my first language. Both of these I bought because of Susd reviews
@@buffalobear160 how much did you like it 2 years later
I miss their chemistry together. Don't get me wrong; Matt is terrific. It's just so nice to see the old band together again.
The band. The band? The band!!
Matt IS terrific
You guys just made my day brighter. You got everything and I mean everything we wanted to offer with this game...
Wait, you are one of the producers of the game?? :O
Thank you soo much for inventing such a beautiful and perfect game! :)
I've missed the Paul and Quinns reviews so much. I hope we get more of them soon.
If he did...you blame him? ;-)
bleh. stop that.
I think "the blonde" has a name.
Yeah, I mean, he's litterally a Nazi.
Damn - hits the feels
I been so hype for this game, i just had to buy it for a price way higher than it should be, i don't know why but it's kinda hard to find it, finally played it with my friends and... It blew our minds, it's really really good, totally worth it.
Been watching a few of your reviews in a row, i love them, your style is really unique and entertaining.
Okay this just bumped Cry Havoc from top of my wish list, looks much easier to jump into and play, this looks like a dream game for me. Great to see you guys review together again.
I have to play this now. By the way, I do love the rapport the two of you have when back together again. Fantastic review!
OMG! You got the band back together. I didn't realize how much I missed it until now. You guys have a great chemistry together. Get together more often. Also the game looks fantastic. Can't wait to check it out.
Best opening 30 seconds ever haha. Thanks for the review!
I see a lot of the illustrations are from Jim Fitzpatrick. He did some great Irish story books. He also did some cover art for Thin Lizzy and he did the Che poster.
Been playing this kind of thing since before El Grande dropped. Inis was in my top five almost immediately & I just dropped by to re-watch this review and say that it still is five years on.
Do you play with We Want a King or do you like having players need to figure out how to break a stalemate?
I might for five with a limited playtime window, but I’ve so far found that emphasizing the importance of Deeds has kept games a reasonable length.
I love your videos guys ! You have the rythm, humour and the best reviews :)
Great review! Its January 8th 2021 and I'm sitting down to my first game of Inis. This review is great and helpful. Thanks guys!
Love you all Quinns, Paul and Matt. That intro was brillant
Finally played this for the first time. Boy it is so good
Paul is so awesome. Pity he left the team.
I hope he does a guest spot
What I really want to know is why that concrete pear sits on a tissue...
did you guys notice that the amazing "medici" got even more amazing with a huge art upgrade in the new printing?
I can't find a review that you guys did, but now that it is newly available, a review would be timely.
Yes guys are back together again!
Best review in ages.
"Here doing Canadian things" like drinking coffee from NOT Tim Horton's. For shame Paul.
Played it again tonight and this game has taken over as my 2nd favorite game.... It's incredible.
did I miss where they talked about the yellow cards?
They kinda mentioned it at the end but not really clearly. They're the cards specific to the regions on the map. You get the associated one for being Chieftain in a region, and they have unique things you can do with them.
@@russelldavis1875 Unless its the damn swamp... Useless swamp...
@@TP_Gillz Well some other lands require you to discard any card... the swamp is the best choice of "any card" you could ever find. But yes, mostly useless
@@TP_Gillz If I remember correctly, Swamp is the Season card that says "Do nothing" ?
If so, it is really, REALLY powerful, as it allows you to "pass" your turn, without actually considering as a pass which means that if other players all pass you still get to play. You get a free turn where you see what other people play, and then you can play. It's really good!
I'm still loving the channel and the content. But how do I miss these days!?!
This was just added to my phenomenal public library collection and I snapped it up and bussing home with it now
One of the best games I’ve ever played. Feels like playing risk as a kid again, but beautifully simple and way more tactical. I’d argue there’s little strategy, as the turns change up so much between rounds.
These two are just the best. So entertaining.
So, when are you filming the playthrough?
Paul and Quintin had such a good chemistry, I miss them doing reviews together.
this game sounds fantastic, but your review was just great too. I showed it to my friend and he now just quotes "some shitty plains" at random to me and it always gets a laugh.
The game looks interesting and the art is just great. The art looks like Moebius meet Milo Manara, with a little bit of Art Deco style on top.
I am looking forward to try this game.
Need a copy of this now!
one of the best bg channels out there
This game is one of my favourites and i just picked up the expansion. Honestly I think it makes the game better in every way! More epic but the seas stop player having a map between them, seasons change things up round to round, and adding a 5th player just works.
I heard that the expansion card colors don't match the base game cards. So when you are drawing, you can easily tell the expansion cards from the back. Is that true?
(I have the second edition blue box btw)
@@NAJALU I honestly didnt notice anything like that :/
Fantastic review guys!!
Awesome Limits of control poster in the background
awesome videos guys, thanks
Beautiful card art. Imma buy this now
My goodness, I need this game.
So... Where's the video where they you talk about Cyclades??
(Love this review by the way. Makes me have to reconsider Inis...)
Some of the oldest stuff is semi-hidden to avoid being busted on their use of copyrighted music. It's all still there, you just have to dig. vimeo.com/40699110
Please do a review on the expansion!!
those tiles look amazing
Wow I love this channel.
One more like button for SD&SU
I wonder: Is the "fetival" really a truce? Because in my box - which I just bought used in very good condition because of this review AND LOVE IT - the festival card says "the attacker loses one miniature when attacking"
The art direction in this game is really compelling and unique.
I love this game! So much fun. I think what I like most is that it's simple - but with a deep strategy that only becomes apparent as you get used to the cards.
Hi! I own and love Kemet and i want to buy either Inis or Cyclades. Which one do you prefer? Do you still rate Inis above Cyclades as you said in the end of the video or not? Thank you!
Great review! 2 questions :
1. is it too random? or can the more-skilled player usually win?
2. Some similarities to Blood rage (drafting)... which is better? and why?
Given that they don't like Blood Rage, I doubt that's a hard choice for them.
Oh really? I didnt know that.
Okay now I have to get this game too!
Loved the review, and the game seems great! But there's one thing i didn't quite get: if there's a big part that's dependant on not knowing who has which cards (or how they'll use it), how does this dynamic play with 2 players? Thank you!
Played it only once so far but was with two players. Definitely quite different, since then you know what the other player has available to them (excluding the one action card that’s set aside at the start of a round). I don’t think it’s a worse kind of strategy, just a different kind. While I look forward to playing it with more than 2 people I’ll still play it with just my partner as well :)
Love that art!
Absolutely obsessed with this game.
I love how it took me to seeing the Kemet box to remember "oh yes, those games". :O
I've watched this review a number of times, and each time until now, I have missed Paul's call back to the "I'm the Captain" joke. XD
Better than Cyclades? You guys have to be kidding! (OR maybe I need to get this game, like, right now...) Great Review!
a very interesting thing about this game is how is how much "power" swings. you can go from almost wining to being dethroned in a few actions. or going from only having a few dudes on one province to gaining a claim to win. this game is super interesting.
but when will it be available on amazon?
This is great. And now I want to buy this game too.
Anything that good or better since? If it surpasses Kemet and Cyclades then I don't have to get them, it's perfect.
4:30 "...you're friends that explore and feast together as well as occasionally killing people together and hiding the body in the thicket." Hilarious!
Friends help you move. Real friends help you move a body. :)
Where is your Forbidden Stars review btw? Would like to watch it.
Awesome review. Coming to my little home soon.
The bad thing is that they changed the box's artwork. :( (9-2019)
The new cover is beautiful!!
The cover art really reminds me of Barry Windsor Smith's style.
Oh man, how many times did you guys start laughing while trying to shoot the "In this...Inis" joke?
That. Art.
Could you have fit more puns inis video?
Does anybody know why the title "Inis" was chosen.
I speak irish fairly well and I can't understand why this title was picked.
In irish the word Inis can be used in the context of name of a place to mean island but can't be used on its own. Another meaning is "tell" such as "inis dom" would mean "tell me". It can also mean grazing land but is rarely used in that context.
If anyone can answer me question or supply additional information I wold be glad to hear it.
You showed Kemet!!! Don't you know brandishing Kemet calls for angelic background music and blinding, heavenly light to emerge from above into the box???
Great review guys!
Fuck i miss Paul
That sneeze 😂😂
Is this game out, or when is it expected to be released?
expected in november
you guys are the new Mighty Boosh, love to have a Bailey's with you guys lol
Just played this for the first time tonight and it was awesome. 5 player game takes a looong time however so be prepared. Eventually everyone let me win because of how late it was, but next time we will play with more time available cuz its that good you don't want to stop. Plus I'm Irish so its even cooler. Alrighty peace.
had Stonehenge in my first game. I used it and instantly broke the game leading to my victory.
Cool game. Great review. I'm Canadian jet faces ;)
Can't wait for the game to come out... Well, time to watch this review for a 3rd time I guess...
Pronunciation of Cyclades is similar in style to Hercules. SIC-LA-DEES
good stuff
On my BGG wishlist.
4:24, Yep, that is the Celtic history I know.
always the best.
I'm not saying the game is bad, for starters. I just didn't quite get what is going on. Tbh neither anybody else in the 2 rounds I played did. I put the game back on the shelf and I hope I'll find a video or written strategy that makes me understand how to really enjoy the game. I'm open to suggestions guys. Great video btw
Bruno .FRod must suck being slow.
Does this play well at all with 2?
Alluvian It plays great with 2.
Very jealous that you guys get advance copies of these amazing board games. :)
A menhir?
Truly a celtic masterpiece.
"Keep it professional".
How is it with just two players?
I was sold on blood rage, but I hear it's not all that with 2 players. Saw this game suggested on reddit as a similar one that scales much better than BR with fewer players. Both games look dope to me. Opinion?
www.shutupandsitdown.com/review-blood-rage/
Just great. Another game for me to buy. Sigh.
how would someone living in the states acquire this beautiful looking game?? Ive looked everywhere and have been told just recently it's not available in the states. mega sad face.
As good as that "in this" joke is, it's pronounced in-ish. Cause Irish :P
Just a quick PSA: Paul and Quinns have "mispronounced" game names since the first episode of the first season.
Kristian Fischer Oh, I know! I'm simply offering how the word is pronounced. Didn't mean anything by it.
English is barely English mate, learn some linguistics en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_English_words_by_country_or_language_of_origin
Right, but the nature of borrowed words is that they can often retain their pronunciation. english.stackexchange.com/questions/16627/what-loan-words-keep-their-native-pronunciation
Of course, this is ignoring two points: 1. Inis is an Irish word, not an English loanword from Irish, and 2. I was simply offering information about that word. Your choice if you want to get angry about it.
Daniel Korolev Cool, it doesn't matter. So you can let an Irish word have an Irish pronunciation instead of arguing it should be English and that's a political statement to say otherwise. That seems straightforward. Buh-bye so.
