What's ironic is your video of where I started my early days of travelling to where I semi retired years later in quartzsite Arizona for 2 years before going on my Bucketlist Adventures Tour on a bicycle tour/ride.
Cherokee is ok. Its not the greatest.
I love Cherokee!!!! There is also an Indian village there where you can watch real Indians make bakers, tools, and weapons. And in the summer they perform a live drama called “Unto These Hills” a story of the trail of tears
You mean the “real Americans” lol
Yes I'm glad that is still there thats what I remember seeing,as a little girl our Church would rent a trailways bus and me and my grandmother\mother would go,we're from Asheville NC and we also use to go a place called Unto These Hills what wonderful memories growing up! Thank you for sharing this video! We also use to go to Twisty Railroad!
Is no indians ...is the realy nativos americanos .
Where is that in nc?
@@Irishandream1 yes
Sad that it will never again be what it was in the 70's and 80's, I still love the area but it's lost so much.
Hi Bo.....was it a smaller town at one time ?...
It looks so beautiful there...
@@gregoryj.m.8985 No it doesn't. It looks like a giant flea market. People who have no regard for the past.
I remember when I was younger in the 80s we use to go see family at the reservation and u are right …. It’s not the same… it started changing after the bad flood they had back in the early 90s
We used to go there every year in the 70’s and 80’s. Stayed at Country Manor motel. Great memories!

I'm only 78 miles from Cherokee and I love the ride through the Nantahala Gorge on my way there! Went there a lot as a child!
If you have the time Maggie Valley has a great museum called Wheels Through Time. Motorcycles and Automobiles most displays will start and run
My wife and I visited Cherokee numerous times in the 90's. We had a friend that lived in Knoxville and we use to drive over the Smokies to Cherokee every time we visited them. On one of our trips we found that there was a reconstructed reservation and took the guided tour through it. It was very interesting and we learned a lot from the guides.
Miigwech and Wado and Mahalo for this statement of yours. Cherokee NC is a very special place to all the Native Americans (American Indians) who reside in the Deep South still. I just love going to Cherokee NC and feeling 200 years of living history inside of me. The reason that Cherokee NC is a special place to the Native Americans in the Deep South is because there are not many reservations in the Deep South. I believe there may be 5 or 6 Federally Recognized Nations in the Deep South. Take care and thank you for recognizing the beauty of Cherokee NC and all it has to offer there. :)
I Love Cherokee! I spent my honeymoon there lol. Hope to visit again someday.
I'm Cherokee from the eastern band, love it up there i moved when i was in high school we have 300 acres a few miles from the reservation such a beautiful place my truly happy place
Thanks for the tour, I enjoyed it, south east Kentucky here. I’ve been there a long time ago. My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Gatlinburg a few years ago, lets see, about 44 years ago i believe. We were married 7-7-77. Thanks 😊👍🏻
We Love RVerTV - Best TV On RUclips. Thank you Russ.
They reintroduced Elk into that area. Beautiful animals
We stayed at the baymont a few years back. The elk were right across the road on a fence line in town. Really cool to see them about 20-30 feet away.
What A Memorable Video 🎉🙏 Greetings from Kakinada Andhra Pradesh India 👍
I'm glad you came to visit. I was born and raised here. I am part Cherokee. Grew up with a lot of my heritage here.
Hi Russ. The pink flowered bushes are Rhododendron’s. I was born and raised in beautiful NC, but living in TX now. Mom moved us to FL when I was 16. I went to Cherokee when I was 14, and the beauty is still burned into my memory. Seeing the gently rolling hills with all the green trees brought tears to my eyes. I will always be a Tarheel!! Thanks for a great video!! ♥️❣️🙏🏼❣️♥️
Very cool! thank you
They are Azaleas.
Yes, those are Rhododendrons. I live in NC and I have this flower in my yard. Same color.
@@sheryllippard735 - I thought they were. Azaleas are a bit different in leaf and bloom. Thanks.
@@judyabernathy80 no problem, I have trouble identifying some plants, as well. I just know they are both beautiful. 😊
What a beautiful town. Thanks for the tour.
The amazing history of the first people of America.
A favorite family vacation for us since the 1950’s. We are going back next month.
Always loved visiting Cherokee. Nice place
That pink flowered shrub was a rhododendron. Very lovely.
You could have big snow there but rarely.
Russ was there 35 years ago, believe it has changed a lot, we camped around the area back in late 70's and 80s. Enjoy your posts. Bob here in Maryland
Now you're getting into my neck of the woods. Southern West Virginia checking in. 😊👍👍
Neat little town, surrounding countryside is beautiful. Thanks for today’s tour.
Great lemonade in Cherokee 👍
I just came back from a road trip and I was blown away by how much I loved Cherokee. When I first planned my trip, it was an after thought and I stayed there for a day. I wished I skipped over Atlanta (What an awful city) and stayed here for another 3 days. I would definitely stay here again when I visit the Smokey's again.
Lovely place.
Welcome to my beloved Appalachian Mountains, hope you make it to Va and Pa. The plant was a rhododendron rhey grownwild in the appalachians and will actually createa a canopy over a trail
Those pink flowers are rhododendrons. An evergreen shrub. They are the state flower of my state - Washington.
Enjoyed the ride. Beautiful country. You’ll miss the greenery when you get back to the Desert. Be Safe!
I agree. Gorgeous views and ❤️ the plushness of the green trees on the hills!
Worked in Cherokee for about 6 weeks. Very nice place!
As an older Canadian watching your travels is making me ache for adventure to follow your trail ..
Another great video. Be safe out there.
👍👍 Very Interesting. The similarity and the differences of Native Americans, West and East.
I've been to Cherokee and that area for 50 years Maggie Valley was straight past the casino about 30 minutes it's a nice town too
What a beautiful place. Small town America right there. Love the museum. thanks
I haven't been here in years...brings back memories.
You're really covering some land this year :-) take care.
Beautiful setting.
It really is!
I live in NC but have not visited that area since I was a child probably 65 or more years ago. My father loved going to that area of NC. Thanks for the memories Russ!!!
Thank you for stopping at the veterans memorial. Freedom is not free.
My most favorite place on earth. I wish I were there now. I wish I could live there. Loved your video. It's most definitely a place to visit.
Love the Cheerokee s, Love the Smokey Mountains. Going next week!. I'm so excited. We visited the Museum enjoyed it. Love them Smokey Mountains!!
Thanks for sharing enjoy the video definitely would like to visit the museum.
Go to Conley Creek in Whittier camp for 14 days that road will take u to Franklin then u can camp at shooting creek for 14 days. I lived here for 20 years
My kid has a plot on a mountain top just over the GA boarder. Spectacular beauty. Glad to see you out East.
Love soaking in the river rans through the Town
Head to north Georgia alpine town (Helen Georgia)
Scene from smokey and the bandit filmed there.
Big local hot spots on the Chattahoochee river
Its a must see place , north west of Atlanta
Years ago we have been Helen, GA awesome, and Chattahoochee river
Discovering beautiful places. Nice video. Thanks Russ 🚐
Making me homesick! I'm from Hickory. Love these little towns scattered all through the mountains of NC. Oh yeah, everybody needs some homemade ice cream every now and then! If you haven't see the play the Cherokee do there called "Unto These Hills" I HIGHLY recommend you see it some time. Very eye opening and informational. I'm not a play connoisseur, but I really enjoyed this play, and learned A LOT!
Russ this brings back memories of a childhood well spent vacationing in Gatlinburg, pigeon forge, Cherokee and the great smoky mountains.
Cool video Russ. That museum was fantastic. I see where the different tribes were which is cool. For the Choctaw tribe, they had a picture of a Choctaw chief who became a Brigadier General and fought in the War of 1812.
It was a wonderful place during the 70s, especially with the frontier land theme park. Now it's just shops owned by people from India 🇮🇳, not Cherokee Indians
We use to visit in 1965 when I was born, spent our honeymoon there in October 1986. It’s totally depressing to go through there now. I still visit Mingus Mill. I miss the Christmas shop which is a bicycle shop now. A dead town for gambling now, nothing for kids to do.
I have gone to Cherokee since 1965 and we took our children there when they could barely walk. They are now 53 and 56. We took our grand children and now have 4 greats to take and enjoy the area. I have seen so many changes and not all are good. I still love the area and love to stay somewhere on the river with a balcony. Very peaceful place to be.
You should see the high school, it is very nice looks like a college. Bryson City is just a short distance away, Great Smokey Mountain Railroad is in Bryson. Good Pizza and Brewery
My dad had a place near Cashiers.alot of good memories on the train..Dillsboro to Bryson!! Famous for the train wreak in the movie The Fugitive..
Russ i love all of your videos. I so look forward to them. Your production is top quality.
Awesome! Thank you!
I love going to Cherokee. But I hope it keeps the feeling of being there. It's a beautiful place. Don't build too much. I remember the casino being built it's changed so much since the 90's.
The Cherokee Indians Run the casino there..Enjoy the ride Russ..Keep on Rockin..
Hey Russ, I was just through Cherokee this past Friday! I love your videos of the desert southwest... Greetings from Bristol, TN!
Beautiful Cherokee Nation! THANKS for Sharing!Glad to see you ,continue to see the world. Enjoy your journey
If you did not see it when you were still in the National Park near Cherokee, there is the Mingus Mill which is a flour mill small museum with operating flume.
I'll be camping there soon. Thanks for the tour.
Living in Arizona almost my whole life ... when I visit someplace with the odd color 'green' ... I can't help but stop and check it out. I would spend more time on the side of the road, than on the road ... loving being surrounded by that Arizona oddity ... 'green'
I've been in every place in Cherokee Its got a feeling you just feel good there.
Been so many times . The play is one of our favorites along with the museum.
Cherokee is my Happy Place
I believe the Cherokee is the only Native American with their own written language
We were just there in May 2022. From California, will never forget it, beautifuly done.
Wow we get too travel with RVTV my grandkids are riding shotgun with Russ great video we always enjoy it’s cute once’s I play your music my youngest come running saying Russ Russ travel well and be safe lance and family
I used to tent camp in Cherokee many years in a row back in the 1970s. It was a big tourist town on the way over the mountain to Gatlinburg. When the new roads opened up, they bypassed Cherokee and the town went down hill for a time. Their answer to bring the tourists back was the casinos such as Harrahs. It was so much fun in the day. The Indian chief had a high presence in the town and would pose for pictures. I camped in the same area every year, which was on an island and all belongings had to be taken across the river by wheelbarrow to the campsites. Then I went back in the late 80s and the campground had been renovated into condos. I was heartbroken and cried. I guess time marches on and progress is ongoing. In all those years, I missed visiting the museum. Thanks for the walkthrough.
Some of that homemade icecream and pie towns blueberry pie would be great 👍🤠🌴🇺🇸
I appreciate you taking us around this Beautiful country and giving us narrations of your travels. I always look forward to your posts. The family and I love to watch together. Stay blessed and safe out there
Great video . Stay safe
Visited Cherokee, N.C. last September, it was the most unwelcoming town I've ever visited "(
Awesome job Russ!!! Thank you!!!
We went to GB / PF TN a year or so ago, on our way back to Florida, we stopped there, did some of the shops, hang out of the river, my kids had a blast playing there. They thought walking in the river was amazing. It was a very pretty area. We are planning a NC trip soon, maybe we will hit that area again
Afternoon Russ!
Absolutely Loved This Place ❤
Hi sir once again a nice and beautiful places with historical museum and nice 🌸🌸🌸 too.keep on moving sir love from Chennai,India.👌👌👌❤❤❤.
Excellent we love it.
We have been going there since the early 70’s when our kids were little. Beautiful place that changed a lot when the casino came in. I still love the whole area.
🙋♀️Hello Russ! Enjoyed seeing Cherokee, loved seeing the museum. Sidewalk was neat! The beautiful pink flower is a Rhododendron. Spring is beautiful, fall is jaw dropping through out these areas.👍
Wow, Cherokee sure grew up since I was there in 1975! Went horseback riding up there. So beautiful.
I spend couple days in Cherokee with my family was my first time I’m really enjoying
I hope coming back soon
I’m really recommend

I like that you explore Native American history in your adventures. Keep up the awesome videos!
Check out the play , Unto these hills. It's a play put on by the locals , it's awesome.
I had a blast. I was there yesterday,i also went to mingo fall to see the beautiful waterfall
Hey Russ!!! "GREAT" Indian Museum!!! "BEAUTIFUL "!!! Be Safe!!!
I love Cherokee, NC. I am 1/16th Cherokee. My great, great grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee. If you go through town and follow the right road it will take you into Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Then into Sevierville, Tennessee, where Dollywood is. I love that area.
Those pink flowers are azaleas. Love the painted sidewalk!
We can see everything. I went in here and my husband and I loved it
When you said you were hungry, I thought we could at least taste the ice cream but I didn't even get a sample... :)
Thanks for the awesome video!
I have driven from the Smoky mountains to Cherokee several times my goal now is to ride through the Smokies and Cherokee on my motorcycle .
Loved the video, particularly the Museum. I am a history buff.
Green Green Green very nice town nothing is green like that here in Southern California......
Hubby's family folklore says they have some Cherokee blood (courtesy of 5 civilized tribes removal to OK on his Dad's side). Thank you for such a wonderful tour of their museum.
I'm glad you had a good time there. That's where I go to relax. Hike the mountains and trout fishing feel calming to my soul. I would visit family there as a child and it always stayed with me. I love it, there.
Love Cherokee NC. 🪶🦅🪶
My wife and I motorcycled through there several times during the course of our marriage.
Memories of her I will cherish forever

I'm part Cherokee and I really enjoyed this video, thank you for sharing this
My parents use to take us on vacation there when I was young. One time in 1983, we wanted a pic with an authentic Indian. We walked and walked until we found what we knew to be an authentic Cherokee to have our pic made with. The clothes, the stance, the accent, everything was what we were looking for. When we ask his name we were blown away..Bill Brady!! We still had our pic made with him. As long as I live, I will never forget that experience or his name
