She acted, sung, produced, and directed the heck out of that movie.
wrote, too
I love that she got to present the Oscar to the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director (Kathryn Bigelow) and how she said “the time has come”!
yessssss
She paved the way. Thank you Barbra.
Her speech was genuine here and not rehearsed like in later years. I still love Yentl.
I didn’t know Streisand won this award. I saw Yentl when it was first in theaters and admired it. I saw it again recently and found it to be a very fine movie - everything about it is at a very high level of achievement.
She became the first female person to win this award
She won the Golden Globe but was snubbed for a best director nomination by the Oscar academy for “Yentl”
How depressing that she said "this award represents, I hope, new opportunities for so many talented women" and yet, to this day, she is still the only woman ever to win the Best Director award.
Not to mention she got hosed big time at the Oscars for Yentle.
@@BBBYpsi I think the movie was up for 7 Oscars and she wasn’t nominated - the Golden Globes usually mirror who wins the Academy Award but if they nominated her they probably would have had to choose her as the winner which she should most definitely should have one / but they didn’t want her to win I always thought the men were afraid of her because I don’t think any other actress has the magnitude of celebrity that Barbra Streisand has ..
@@whostosay3256 Yentl was nominated for 4 Oscars
Best Supporting actress Amy Irving
Best Production Deseign
Best Original Score (Won)
Best Original Song (2 of them Papa Can You Hear me & The way he makes me feel)
Barbara totally got snubbed & shame on the Academy for that.
@@BBBYpsi you’re right I was thinking of the Prince of Tides
Well finally Chloe Zhao became the second woman to win it... HOPEFULLY there'll be many more in the future
You can tell that she was very surprised to win the award!! This movie was really her dream to make :)
Yentl, a masterpiece.Barbra at her artistic peak. Who can forget that last note of ‘Piece of Sky’ : flyyyyyyyy!!!!
She should of won the best director that year for her masterpiece Yentl. It's a shame that jealousy, depisemment perhaps because of her temperament at times, but then who doesn't have those human emotions, and the fact that she was a woman in a historically male dominated category, blinded or interfered with objectivity and fairness in judging artistic excellence in directing. She deserved it that year.
Love you Barbra...class act...one of a kind...
Thanks. Blake Edwards always said that she should have won the Oscar for Best Director for "Yentl. Cheers.
She should have won the oscar too.
Boy it's so wonderful to see her so "off guard," as it's not often that Barbra shows this side of her. Usually everything is perfected. It's fantastic that she won--and a scandal that she got zip from Oscar for "Yentl."
She is perfect to direct a movie.
Congratulations for that won prize
Yentl is highly underappreciated. It's the best musical picture ever, for me.
It was polished to perfection.
She should won the Oscar as well!!!
Well deserved. Yentl was a great movie.
A great honor in terms of career ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
She looks utterly incredible...
Loved Yentl... saw it at the Zeigfeld theatre opening weekend.......
She is so on point with this speech. And so ahead of the time in that 30+ years later, this issue with the lack of women in leadership roles in the movie business is still an ongoing talking point.
Rock on, Barbra! You may have the biggest voice, the biggest jew fro and the biggest ego in the business. But you're Barbra Fucking Streisand, so I say keep on walking, lady! You worked your ass off and deserve this!
I was always led to believe that Miss Streisand was snubbed at the Oscars for Yentl
There wouldn’t be another female best director winner until February 28th, 2021.
Wasn't kathryn bigelow a best director winner in 2008?
I was gonna say yes Kathryn Bigelow won the best director Oscar for The Hurt Locker in 2010 and Barbra Streisand presented it to her funny enough.
@@edwardallenmiranda8586 Kathryn Bigelow won the Oscar but they gave the Golden Globe to James Cameron for Avatar (😑)
Barbra is a skilled movie director, and I only hate that she hasn't helmed more films than she has (three). I think she said in an interview that I saw her in not that long ago, that she'd like to direct a film again. Hoping she does, and looking forward to it.
Her reaction was wonderful(:♥
So real, I can feel her!
It's 2021 and I wish Barbra had directed more movies. It must have taken a LOT out of her and she is so professional. I so wish her well, we are all growing older. Watched her since the 1960's and she is a legend. So much talent.
My all time Favorite Female Singer/Entertainer & Person Oh and director! !st time seeing this !!!!!! #1 Always & Forever #1
So well deserved. It's the first time I've seen Barbra so moved in real life. You can tell this meant the world to her.
Wow she was so overwhelmed because she was the first and until 2021 this year the only
Love you Barbara x just beautiful and amazing
I flipped a shit when I saw this on TV. I was crying it was so amazing
I 'm glad she got it.
Barbra is a great talent, and an extremely intelligent woman.
Yes she is.
It's a shame that Hollywood didn't get the hint and a) didn't even nominate her for the Best Director Oscar (twice!) and b) wouldn't reward a woman that honor for still another 26 years.
Love that woman, talk about crashing through glass ceilings!
This woman...her mad skills. What a talented, graceful soul. Beautiful.
Yentl was a beautifull movie. Everybody agree that Hollywood was very unfair with her. Maybe they gotta scared of her talent. She is a producer, director, Singer, actress with Amazing quality and taste. Some may argue she is "difficult". Very rare in Hollywood. But must have an excuse tô place in the freezer a huge talent. Anyway if she was a guy then Oscars and Oscars for real, for merit and not "free lunch". Maybe the mistake Barbara did was not tô pass herself as a guy, with beard and Hi my name is Jacob.
Wonderful! One of my favorite films. Really all the nominations were wonderful, and the fact that no woman has won in the time now, since then, says way too much about the fear of women’s talents and How scarcity conscious Hollywood, and our whole country can be.
Make space Hollywood, there is enough for everyone! Ava DuVernay should have won with Selma and could be next with so many fab others!
Living legend! Respect!
Barbra's a brilliant woman
This woman never made nothing bad in her entire career!
THE ULTIMATE INSULT is why BARBRA STREISAND is not listed @ IMDB.COM as a DIRECTOR.She only appears under the headings of ACTRESS, PRODUCER, SOUNDTRACK. This has to be corrected. It is unfair.
I was shocked by your comment but you are right. I think IMDB list each person by the three categories in which they have the most credits. Ben Affleck is not listed as a Director either. He is listed as Producer, Actor, Writer.
Marilyn Bergman, quien acaba de dejarnos, se puso más contenta que la propia ganadora. Esa reacción es del amigo que te ama verdaderamente.
All of those films were excellent.
Grammy for Best Pop Vocalist 5x (the most of any pop singer in history)
She is and will always be too PERFECT 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I agree man!!!
This gorgeous inspiring woman. Multi/mega-talented. Out of orbit. We all are so blessed. ❤ Get it, Queen Bee.
It has been 34 years- Time's UP!
Genius!
Yesss, Barbra! Ageless and evergreen... the extraordinary artist who has open doors and melt icebergs in Hollywood!
TRIPPY! Barbra Streisand and Cheryl Ladd shearing a stage! Cheryl looks beautiful.
What a talented lady
Oh sweet it was!
It's 2019 and Streisand is still the only woman who has won in that category.
No, Katherine Bigelow won Best Director for 'The Hurt Locker'.
@@laurakaminsky6796 No, Bigelow did not win a Golden Globe. She was nominated.
@Laura Kaminski - You might want to keep your award shows separated in your mind. Barbra won a Golden Globe best director award - Bigelow won an Academy award Oscar for best director.
To win in this category amongst such great Directors and films is really saying something, look at the lineup why oh why can't films of this caliber be made today?
so true!
A true trailblazer in every way.
she deserved the Oscar that year.
The best movie that i’ve ever seen😍😍😍
How she wasn't nominated for the best director oscar for yentl or prince of tides really speaks mountains of the toxic male culture in Hollywood
only one woman......that´s telling
Wow Wow Wow!!!
She deserved an oscar for this, but i guess she was already to big for some, doesnt matter,no one ever will archive what she did
Also in directing The Prince of tides!
That's Barbra the best director and many more.
❤️❤️❤️
Oscar for Best Actress in her first film
How about thanking the 1st woman to make it as a 50's Director/Producer...Ida Lapino
So Golden Globes did it before the Oscars.
Love the hairdo!
She should have won for What's up Doc? she crushed that role.
Now Golden Globe Best Director
I also just realized that my friend, Martin Speer was the director for the movie that Cheryl Ladd is there for, (though she's not nominated), The Hasty Heart. Boy I'm going to have to speak to him about this now!!
Barbra walked so Kathryn Bigelow, Chloe Zhao, Greta Gerwig, Emerald Fennell could run
Always paving the way for the younger generations🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
One of these rara isntances where time has vindicated this award being given to Streisand.
Okay..Justin Bieber, I could SO GO WITHOUT THAT AD.
BARBRA WAS ROBBBBBBED, ACADEMY.
The End.
Great win. Well deserved. But man, those 80s hair-dos! What were we thinkin'?!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💪💪💪👍👍😘😘
I like her hair curly
@romanticspirit Congratulations for writing the same comment on 2 videos and receiving the highest votes... Congratz!!!
With her hair like that she looks like Christina on the tv show coach
why not?
0:32 Chaz Bono!
That is Cherly Ladd as a presenter and her first Hubby David Ladd I think? This would have bee around the time she replaced Farrah on "Charlie's angels". I noticed Cherly's eyes looking over Bab's dress or legs? This was a great achievement for Bab's!
But she didnt nominated for Oscars in the same year for Yentl...
WTF! No Sound
It’s Barbra not Barbara.
UTUBE COME RAIN OR COME SHINE BY JOHN BAVAS
I wish he had pronounced her name correctly.
...she can sing too...
Did she beat Bergman ???
STILL THE ONLY WOMEN !!!!! SMDH 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️#timesup
why?
God the 80's did terrible things for womens hair, glad I was a kid then haha
She should have won for The Prince of Tides, which was even a better movie than Yentl.
@romanticspirit mine too/
Spell her name right for chrissake.
@vadimzdonutube Scorsese is no Bergman man
She would love to see her name mis-spelled... it's BARBRA!
You the rolling stone group has only one player diana
Seriously how Bergman could loose
