    Lyrics:
    Virgil Spencer's got a 19 inch Hitachi
    And many demons lingering
Friday night, he pulled a gun to change the channel
Something that he picked up from the King
His wife remembers well the man she knew
Seems the dreams she had have all turned black and blue
    She's wasted years
    No time for tears
    'Cause there's another chance
    A someday soon
    Shining like the Alabama moon
She's looking for the promised land
Out beyond the lights of Birmingham
It's 3 am and Virgil's passed out on the sofa
A fifth of Jim Beam on the floor
She's packed her bags, she slips the keys out of his pocket
She's careful not to slam the door
And as she drives she rubs her rosary
She's never been so all alone, she's never felt so free
    She got miles to go
    Blind faith and hope
    'Cause there's another chance
    And a someday soon
    Shining like the Alabama moon
She's looking for the promised land
Out beyond the lights of Birmingham
As the rain falls down upon the interstate
Any doubts she had are all but washed away
    A long look back
    At Birmingham
    'Cause there's another chance
    And a someday soon
    Shining like the Alabama moon
She's looking for the promised land
Out beyond the lights of Birmingham
    Another chance
    And a someday soon
    Shining like the Alabama moon
She's looking for the promised land
Out beyond the lights of, yeah, yeah, Birmingham
    Birmingham
    Yeah, yeah
    Ooh, whoa baby
    Yeah, someday soon
    Baby, someday soon
    Yeah, someday soon
    Hey, hey, yeah
    Keep on driving
Yeah, keep on driving baby, yeah

The Canadian music industry spits them out when they are done with them,so much talent wasted because of the profit margins. Alannah Myles another example

    • @kjleighb
      @kjleighb 2 года назад +8

Bad timing. She sounded a little too much like Melissa Etheridge, who was very popular at the time. The music industry simply won't support two similar-sounding artists when one is already a big star....even if the less popular one is a better musician.
Lots of talented artists have been screwed this way, and consequently ended up one-hit wonders. Quarterflash (Pat Benatar), The Knack (Cheap Trick), Soft Cell (Human League), Joan Osborne (Sheryl Crow), Dexy’s Midnight Runners (General Public), Frankie Goes to Hollywood (Dead Or Alive), Mark Dinning (Roy Orbison), Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs (Frankie Valli/Four Seasons), and the list goes on.
In the case of The Zodiacs, their hit was functionally stolen and made into a big hit by their competition. It ain't fair, but that's The Biz. Timing is everything.

Amanda, you have given many women the inspiration to leave their abuser. Thank you so much. Your song helped me a lot. I will always remember that one point in the video where she gets out of the car and stands looking up at the snow falling. It gives me the feeling that she is letting the snow flakes falling on her to help wash away the bad feelings and it symbolizes a clean break and freedom. This image will be in my mind forever.

Cant wait to see you in Vancouver @QE It is so great to see you back out and touring... 20 years is a long time... AND I Hope its not for the same "tied contrac"crap my cousin went through as a Canadian artist. If it was I take a Knee to your perseverance and strength ! Your voice is stunning and your inspiration will continue to live on! We Love You!

i've played guitar for more than 30 years.....listened to so many artists and styles of music....i can honestly say she has the best voice this side of Aretha Franklin....it would be an honor to play on a record of hers.....the most underrated singer of this era

I remember buying the single cassette tape at some store I don't remember where at! But thought the case sleeve was of a beautiful young lady with gorgeous hair! Thought I'd give the cassette a chance to hear what she sounded like! I'm glad I did! Her voice is so beautiful! I to this day don't know what happen to the tape! But am glad I found the video! Because I've never seen it before! So happy right now! 😍❤

Was just looking through my travel journal from 2000's and quoted this song when I had just found out my cancer had just come back again after I thought I was safe to start living again. The next day I had just found out I was accepted to grad school to fulfill a life long dream. This song gave me hope. I graduated with an extra year due to surgery/treatment when it had come back again but I survived and thankfully now cancer free! You never know what can inspire you in the darkest times. This was one of my fave albums and still stands the test of time.
