Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'm not a musician, but rather looking at the Hurdy Gurdy from the mechanical "How does it work?" POV, and this really helped my understand. Love the sounds it makes. My mind if boggled at how you can keep all the actions straight.
i want to make a hurdy gurdy (because where i'm from its either really difficult to get or too expensive), i love the trumpette sound but didn't get how it works, so thank you!!
I have been looking at gurdies for months with an eye to buying. I had already decided on an Altarwind, but this video has made me feel much better about spending my money. I can see the fine detail put in to building this gurdy and it's impressive. I am today, just waiting for your store to open, [i'm central time zone] and I was looking hard at the moncur but have finally settled on The 'Madeline'. Money is not the decider, the early medieval design and your enhancements struck a chord. :o)
Brilliant, finally I understand what this is. Thanks!

it's activated by how you crank the wheel , with your cranking hand.

What are these small strings next to the trompette strings are they more drone strings or more melody strings
Those are sympathetic strings
Cheers
