    I'm interested in buying an electric Hurdy Gurdy... more to use w/ elfx pedals and vocoder etc. How hard is the flywheel on the strings and for electric Hurdy Gurdys are there flywheel materials and string materials (+ maybe lube) that can extend the life. Like instruments I'm into cars though know next to nothing about the engineering / maintenance for both. Like a fluoro metallic purple restomod Mazda 808/RX-3 wagon Wankel engwnined masterpiece why don't Hurdy Gurdys have more that one rotor (at least stock)?

    How about F/Bb Tuning? It would be G/C but moved down a whole step.

    Thank you for this. I'm a beginner gurdy player. I am confused about something - when you talk about C/G tuning, the strings are both tuned to Gs and you are talking about the keyboard being a "C" keyboard. Similarly, when you talk about G/D tuning, the strings are both tuned to Ds and you are talking about the keyboard being a "G" keyboard. I don't understand this. A piano keyboard is a piano keyboard - we don't have any concept of a "C" keyboard or a "G" keyboard. Could you help me to understand this, please? Thank you!

      Yes exactly! Although they start on an open 'g' note, it's a c scale

    • @markberglund2056
      @markberglund2056 2 месяца назад

      Open G string, note the third button is a C. So lowest open string is G, the top button is also a G, but it is a C scale with a few notes above and below the Cs... that's how I think about it as a guitar/keys player 😊✌️

    Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'm not a musician, but rather looking at the Hurdy Gurdy from the mechanical "How does it work?" POV, and this really helped my understand. Love the sounds it makes. My mind if boggled at how you can keep all the actions straight.

    George. you are building a symphonie for me, but I have zero musical background and the one thing that would help people in my boat would be music. There is precious little of that online now. And I don't mean the kind with music notes and lines. I mean the kind with numbers any lump can follow. HAHAHA. Need more of that from simple to more complex

    I have been looking at gurdies for months with an eye to buying. I had already decided on an Altarwind, but this video has made me feel much better about spending my money. I can see the fine detail put in to building this gurdy and it's impressive. I am today, just waiting for your store to open, [i'm central time zone] and I was looking hard at the moncur but have finally settled on The 'Madeline'. Money is not the decider, the early medieval design and your enhancements struck a chord. :o)

    George, the trompette buzz is the hardest thing for me to understand, probably because my Gurdy hasn't been ordered yet. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush kind of thing. So, is the dog activated from change in speed of the crank, or the force you use at that instant?

    • @hurdygurdyworld8674
      @hurdygurdyworld8674 3 года назад

      Hi Mitch! A little of each. If you crank nice & steady & even, it won't buzz. It's subtle little gyrations of your cranking hand that makes it buzz. The action of it is also adjustable, so you can make really super sensitive (requiring the slightest of effort to make it buzz) or go the other direction.
