    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    After the death of her famous opera-singing aunt, Paula (Ingrid Bergman) is sent to study in Italy to become a great opera singer as well. While there, she falls in love with the charming Gregory Anton (Charles Boyer). The two return to London, and Paula begins to notice strange goings-on: missing pictures, strange footsteps in the night and gaslights that dim without being touched. As she fights to retain her sanity, her new husband's intentions come into question.

    I admire how skillful both Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman were, particularly considering that English wasn’t their first language. Ingrid couldn’t speak English at all when she’d arrived in Hollywood only 5 years earlier.

    Probably no one remembers Joseph Cotten in this film, but I love her facial expressions, you can see her sanity slip away- in fact the term “gaslighting” came from this film.

      The term "gaslighting" came from the play this film is based on. And this film isn't even the first adaptation.
