This type of video of you just practicing is awesome. Please make more. Even with traditional pinstriping. Just starting out myself and your thinking out loud learning is SO helpful. Thank you. Love the podcast

Thanks. I wanted to make another this week, but ended up on the road all but one day of the week. Hopefully next week.

The hard thing about scrolling is that at some point, you'll be pushing away from yourself (unnaturally) while simultaneously covering your view of the brush. Basically backwards and blind 🦯

I find myself doing that in lettering sometimes. Next practice session should be a bit.more interesting.

Thank you for trying so many brushes, paint viscosity and an unfamiliar technique (scrolling) Have watched alot of Freddie Villa's videos past couple years. I can easily find time for 10-15 minute videos but tough to commit to 1hr plus. This being said, I have watched your #1&2 Podcasts, this video and your Tattoo Removal Saw video in past days. Keep up the great work and really appreciate your and Freddie's collaborations and showcasing the blending of pinstriping and lettering techniques.

@gordonl9807 thanks. I try to keep most videos to around 15 minutes. Lots to cover on this one.

Thanks for sharing your testing! I've been testing different "lettering" brushes for the past couple months, and found a few i like. Now, im off to start testing scroller/liners! Lol But, like you mentoon in the video, it's a lot about the feel even if the results are the same. No real way of sorting that out without some testing.

@@JesseAkersKnives Yep. To some extent, it is about personal preference.

I like this video I see Villa has chimed in the comments He’s one of the best out there in my opinion It helps to see other artists approach practice. I’m trying to learn as well I just purchased the long handle Von Dago brushes and I like them better than other brushes I’ve tried. I think getting the paint right is a big part of it. I love the Tidwell slim. It’s one if my favorite brushes

Freddie is a verry good friend of mine. We host The Pinstripers Podcast together. I agree that he is one of the best out there. We have discussed the possibility of having him on one of these videos about learning scroll style. Sharing the approach/journey to learning this is the goal. I know that other people will be able to make a connection. I hope that this series of videos will give others inspiration, encouragement, and help them gain confidence in what they are doing. It is a long journey, and the path is practice. Hopefully these videos will illustrate that.

Jack I’ve got a ton of videos out for you to see how to do scroll pinstriping, after watching them it will come much easier and actually have fun with it. Your using copies of my original designs ,try one of my original designs so you can have some success, these are just copies for copying my scroll style …

Thank you for reaching out. I actually just got a new Kafka scroll brush. Been playing with it a little bit. I have been bad about making a follow up video to this, but have been practicing and it is getting easier and more fun. I have watched your videos, but will admit that it has been a while. I need to go back and watch them again. Thank you again

It's getting hard to find good magazines to pallet my paint on. I used to have several magazines I'd subscribe to over the years, but since the internet, magazines became a thing of the past now. Maybe I'll need to find a store that throws their old ones out?

There is an art magazine here locally that is given to business to Gove out for free. It has the best paper. I grap those when I can. Post card flyers at car shows are good too.

So weird how different we are as artists in general. I too worked on my scroll work today and didn’t like the synthetic brush at all. 😂 I dig the Bobbo Super Quads. Found that if I hold the brush by the end instead of like a pencil I get better loops.
It’s also waaaaaay different than “regular” striping.
    Thanks for the videos man!

@chrisdepuy2337 I had quit buying scroll brushes because I had quit trying it. I think I will stick with what I have for now, practice for a while, and maybe try a different one after a while.

I started with one almost 20nyears ago. Couldn't get used to it, so I gave it to another striper. Recently a friend gave me another one. This time around of trying it, I really like it and am doing better with it. I need to post an update video to this one.

I would recommend a Mack series 10 (blue wrap) size 00 for starting sword striping. For.scroll striping, I am not really sure.since I am.just now trying to really figure it out. Seems to me that the most popular are the Kafka scroll brushes and the white Von Dago ones I show in this video.
