Totally loved your video! I learned so much. It's an honor to learn from a pro, not many willing to show how they do it. I hope you make many more, like tips on how to repair screwups, lol. I have a hot rod but can't afford your professional work, so at least now I can say I learned from the best! Will do a lot of practice before I start, thank you!

Absolutely……the best…..tutorial on the internet. VERY well explained Jen!! I started striping about 30 years ago, for a brief period…I was terrible at it, and haven’t done it since then. Turns out, I was holding the brush upside down!!! Now, 30 years later, I’m going to give it another shot!! I’m pretty decent at lettering with quills, but striping for me was a challenge. Now I know why!! Thanks for rekindling my interest Jen!!! You’re the best!!

In any case, I feel more like I want to have a proper go, so thank you so much for giving me somewhere to start!

Very well done, tutoring aspiring artists & old timers alike is not an easy task.
You posses the talent, patience, & soothing voice to walk your students thru the intricacies of this lost art.
Sadly in this day & age people have been conditioned to posses little or no patience to master such a discipline.
Trust me I love technology as much as the next guy however, a desktop & a plotter can crank out a decal & earn you enough to get by. Or produce a hand painted 1of that has true artistic value for a nice sum.
I admire you for body of work & the love for the discipline...you are a Master of your craft.
    Love & Respect.

Found your site last night, instantly subscribed. I've been painting, albeit not pin striping, for most of my life. Brush maintenance/care was one of the first lessons I learned. Quality brushes can last many years, I have some that are over fifty years old. Today I learned your mineral oil storage trick, WOW! I no longer have the steady hands but I may still try pin striping for the entertainment value. Thanks for sparkling an old interest.

You're an amazing artist. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm from Brasil and we don't have too many pinstripers here. You can be counted on hand fingers. Is not easy to find materials, inks, and brushes here. I start a small store to help people find what need for pinstriping, here in Brasil. But not easy. In baby steps, this amazing art grows here. I really enjoy all your tutorials. You're not a great artist, but a good teacher too. ;-) Greetings from Brasil. Sorry about my bad English.

Thanks Jen. I have thought about your video a bit now that I've watched it, and I think it is good quality. I learned more in this lesson than I have learned from quite a few other Pinstriping videos. Like, caring for your brush and using glass as a practice medium etc. I restore old bicycles, and I need to be able to do simple lining on lugs and forks etc, no big hot rods, but being able to get a good line on a curvy surface is important.
I'll be watching your other videos, and thanks again.

Thanks so much for taking the time to make these videos. I've been dabbling in pinstriping and lettering for years, but it's always helpful to go back to basics and look over the shoulder of a master. Just talking through what you're thinking as you're working- like the lift in the middle of an S-curve, and the wiggle at the end of the line - are things that you don't get from watching timelapses and seeing finished work. Lookin forward to more!
For a mineral spirits substitute, I switched to Eco-House extra-mild citrus thinner - It's not non-toxic, since it's still a solvent, but it smells good and cuts way down on the fumes. I still use the 1-shot reducer for thinning, but for traditional oil paints I use Eco-House for both thinning and cleaning.

Thanks for showing some of your techniques. Very similar to what I used to do for architectural renderings in gouache. Its impressive that you don't rely on a maulstick or curve set for those beautiful long lines. I tried one-shot (lacquer) years ago and thought it was great paint, but not really usable for 'oil' painting. Great coverage, similar to Flash paint, which I think they stopped making ( a very opaque latex solution, made in France, as I recall, pricey). Its not the paint, but the acquired skill and you have it! Really nice to see.

I like the idea of practicing on glass, since I'm thinking about doing motorcycle parts, some jars could be good practice, too.

It IS a different brush, an old pinstriper one Bike week let me try, it was so hard without any practice. I do holiday windows, seeing if I could incorporate this a little. I had a friend w/ a gas station & used it, to learn. Thank you.

Hi Jen, would love to see a close up and a side view of your easel set up. Looks like it all folds flat to the wall. I like your style!
