A contract obtained by fraud is not Legal and the owner's should have engaged a solicitor and fought it through the courts. That's the problem with British Law. Obtaining property illegally is ingrained in their history and stems from their greed and their need to possess everything valuable for their own use. It's colonial law.....hundreds of years of stealing what's not theirs has now become the Norm........

The real owners of the house should show the ownership papers/sale agreement of the rental house to the tenants and make sure they pay the rent to them directly. I would never have taken on a pushy "letting agent". You can't trust anyone else when it comes to money.

The state of Florida has had one of the first Stand Your Ground laws for this purpose. I doubt the majority of us never had a need to use them but, being a single mother for most of my late son’s childhood, having my handgun and having taken special lessons to use my gun made me Know i could protect my boy and myself if the issue arose. it looks as though the tenants in the UK have more rights than the homeowners and know they can live free! unbelievable and so unfair. smh

I have to say that I am absolutely stunned at the ineffectiveness of the British justice system! The police have been cut off at the knees with the laws of the land being so lax and in favour of the 'bad guys'. It seems to me that the police are forced to say that most of these crimes against honest home owners come down to being ' civil matters' rather than crimes against the homeowners. English justice system, you REALLY need to grow a backbone and get some laws changed to support the police!

Here in Ohio Rent due 1st. Late 2nd. 3 day notice expires 5 business days after that. Attorney files in court first Thursday after that. Eviction hearing in 3 weeks. Can wait to get eviction detainer if doesn't move in 10 days or save time and 10 day wait by getting it immediately after first hearing. Maximum time to move out 5 weeks. If they are behind one month, they will never catch up as more months added on. Check for prior evictions, prior (not current) landlord, verify everything. Owing utilities on credit report a really bad sign. Unreported addresses on I.D. or credit report bad. No, mail going to grandma's house is not a reason address on ID is different from your credit report and application. Recently updated ID bad, too--hides real current address or bad old one. So much of this could have been avoided.
